What's new in the LS 500h Nishijin?

The LS 500h is Lexus' flagship sedan. The Nishijin variant comes in a new exterior colour called 'Gin-ei Luster'. The car has a new front bumper and gets handcrafted upholstery.

Inside, the car features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit which can be controlled using an iPhone or Android smartphone. Lexus has also made a few changes to the steering wheel and centre console.

What sort of substances do you have to be on to spend Maybach money on a standard Lexus LS with silk embroidery?

+1 to that. The Lexus LS is already an overpriced car to begin with, this “special” edition makes the price look even more unreasonable.

The new colour looks like any other generic Grey and the new materials alone are not worth an extra 35 lakh.

Sorry I have not sat in either a Maybach or a Lexus LS. Are there any significant differences in the two? Is the Lexus severely lacking in anything when compared to the Maybach?

Re: Lexus LS 500h Nishijin launched at Rs. 2.22 crore

Highly underpowered Lexus;

2021 LS 500h, Torque Output 350 NM, priced @ INR 2.2 Cr. Ex-Showroom.
2009 Toyota Fortuner 3L D-4D, Torque Output 350 NM, priced @ INR 18.xx L Ex-Showroom.
Also;
2021 Toyota Fortuner 2.8L (GD Series), Torque Output 500NM priced @ INR 36.xx L Ex-Showroom

Diesel v/s Petrol arguments will not be tolerated, This comparison is just to make fun of Lexus, thats it

The Maybach has a 200 mm longer wheelbase than the standard S Class. It's also 250 mm or so up on the Lexus. It also comes with a V8 as standard equipment, which matters at this level of spending. The S550 Maybach is actually 10% cheaper as well.

Re: Lexus LS 500h Nishijin launched at Rs. 2.22 crore

Lexus made sense in many countries where it is priced reasonably well and lower than equivalent German beauties. Also it offered very similar or in some case even better luxury experience without compromising quality and reliability.
But!! Lexus still lacks that Brand value what their German counterparts have no matter how good their car is.

This car is a few months ahead of its time. Should have been launched on April 1 2021.

Re: Lexus LS 500h Nishijin launched at Rs. 2.22 crore

Can't discern the difference between this car and the regular Lexus LS500. From the outside you can't really distinguish one from the other. So any muted show off factor is also lost. Despite being an ardent Lexus fan Rs 2.22 crores is a bit hard to swallow for me. But hey let the man who is paying the bill decide what's VFM for him. Value, like beauty, lies in the eyes of the beholder/buyer.

Why do you say that.

In USA at least Lexus holds its own in image and perception with the German 3. In USA I believe Audi and Mercedes rate lower than BMW and Lexus. Just my observation.

I only identify LEXUS brand as being Harshad Mehta's favorite.
At this pricing it sounds like a extension of SCAM series.

Regards.

It's better to have a choice and not need it than to be stuck without options. Only the guy who is writing the cheque knows what is worth his money. Keep calm and welcome new launches.

Maybe the other reason to have such low torque figures is that some one forgot to mention the torque added via 2 motors in the article. Still, I get your point of being underpowered for a heavy luxury vehicle after paying a hefty sum.

But Lexus is one uniquely styled vehicle and in my opinion it is still a rare car to sight on the road as to Rolls or a Bentley, it does turn heads on the roads.

P.S - not comparing Lexus to any other brand, only the rarity on the Indian roads.

Re: Lexus LS 500h Nishijin launched at Rs. 2.22 crore

The reason why Toyotas are so reliable is very apparent here. The ls 500h makes 354 hp from a hybrid 3.5 L Twin Turbo V6 while an European car, the Giulia Quadrifoglio for e.g. makes 510 hp from a 2.9 L Twin Turbo V6 engine. This conservative approach to engineering is what makes Toyotas so reliable.

Re: Lexus LS 500h Nishijin launched at Rs. 2.22 crore

The 'Nishijin' part piqued my interest. So I went through the Lexus brochure on their website. This is what it says there:

Lexus LS 500h Nishijin launched at Rs. 2.22 crore-nishijin.png

Now, moonlight on sea-waves! Aha! Beautiful setting. This is the sight I conjured up in my mind:
Lexus LS 500h Nishijin launched at Rs. 2.22 crore-moonlight-sea.jpg

Expectantly, I checked the OP again, and then I checked it online and in Lexus' brochure. This, this is what Lexus is calling moonlight on sea:
