Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Yes! I too remember that. I still very vividly my first ever Auto India copy I bought for 50 Rs in 1995! I still have it. The Honda City car was features on it for the first time. There was also Prado Landcruiser. The posters were usually a center spread and collecting them meant something back then!

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

As a kid I there were three cars I had major crush on.

1. Honda City V-tech the first ever. The pull of that engine was every youngsters dream. I remember having wheel spins in 1st and 2nd gear while the Tachometer swiped like windshield wiper. I never owned one, I still get excited when I see one.

2. Tata Sierra 1998. Loved the looks and the ride was phenomenal for that time. I was lucky enough to own one. As a matter of fact I learned how to drive with the Tata Sierra. Ever since I do not enjoy driving a sedan. Attaching an image of my Sierra.

3. Another car I used to drool for was the Fiat Palio 1.6. Never went on to own one but did end up owning a used the 1.2 for a year or so which was bought by own earnings. (Pic attached).

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

I’m still a kid, and my taste in cars is continuously evolving.

Since this thread requires Indian cars (which I’m interpreting as cars sold in India), my list is reduced to a few specific cars which I have/had a crush on.

Numero Uno:

This generation of the Mercedes S Class, with the three pointed star on the hood, not on the grille. This grille is one of the only enormously sized ones I like. Pure elegance, opulence, luxury and power. Love this one’s alloys too.

Used by many presidents etc. all over the world, there is a reason why.

Whereas, a BMW 7 series failed to provide me those luxury vibes. I always remembered the M5 or the Z4 whenever I thought of a BMW.

Number Two:

The Touring Sport Innova Crysta. I distinctly remember going to check out the new Innova Crysta when it launched, at a Pune Toyota showroom. I hated it’s looks and dark interiors compared to our elegant 2010 model. (Although it was better than the humongous grilled generation it replaced)

But when the Touring Sport launched, I remember seeing a certain automobile influencer’s vlog on it. I watched it in full 1080p resolution and the car was looking awesome! I had a crush on this one the minute I saw it.

I got the chance to check it out in real life too, some days later. I loved the sporty design and all, even that red colour.

In fact, I would like to make a note here that when we were kids, all our car crushes were based on car looks. The best looking cars become our car crushes.

Other cars I have a crush on:

Lexus LX —

Endeavour Sport and Diffused Silver editions —-

More recently, the Fortuner Legender —

(Although I feel that the regular one looks more solidly built.)

I’ve had a crush on these cars too so it’s not just SUVs —

A special mention to these two cars — my first crushes on cars sold in India.

Footnote: I love the activity on this thread. The truth is, I’m still 4 years to becoming an adult, and by then I would have more and different car crushes. Hope to come back to this thread later on and add some more.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

The Fiat Palio (pre-facelift) was always the car I used to lust after as a kid. The distinctive colour options stood out for me (we really need to bring back candy coloured cars!). In a sea of old dark coloured 800s, altos and my family's old silver Indica V2 the bright green and orange Palios really stood out with their Italian aura of flamboyance.

What added to that allure was it's 1900cc diesel engine (as a kid my thinking was simple, higher cc = higher power) and not to mention my dad's favourite way of torturing me, reminding me again and again that he bought an indica V2 instead of a Palio because of the delivery dates!

The VW beetle. Of course, then I did not know what brand or model it was. Used to call it the tortoise car.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

As a kid, used to imagine myself owning any one of the following cars:

1. Mitsubishi Lancer
2. Honda Civic
3. Ford Icon
4. Dodge Viper GT2 (Though not an Indian car, but this one has a special place in my heart)
