Why is it called 'World Premiere' when the same is already on sale in Brazil?

That's the old Virtus, based on the Mk6 Polo and MQB-A0 architecture and built in Brazil. The one that's being launched now is built on the MQB-A0-IN architecture and will be exported from India to Latin American markets, replacing the existing one there. It will receive significant updates over the outgoing one. They're probably not referring to it as 'world premiere of the New Virtus' because that would not make sense in India where it is not merely a facelift but an entirely new launch.

Polo MK6 is based on MQB-A0 platform. Looks like the Virtus is based on cheaper' version of MQB-A0 platform which is termed as MQB-A0-IN.

I feel that it will still be the same 2019 Brazilian Virtus, skin and bones but with less muscles. Otherwise there is no point in retaining those 'aged' bodylines!!

Front face more clearly visible via the social media ad. Definitely carried over from latest gen global polo

I think this model seems pretty similar to the one that's being teased by VW India. I could be wrong, but regardless, this is probably what the car will resemble.

Also, VW Virtus with 4 airbags scored a perfect 5 stars in Latin NCAP - for both child and adult.

Not valid for India. First of all, the new Virtus will be based on MQB-A0-IN, the old one was MQB-A0, though even the MQB-A0-IN Virtus will be exported to Latin America. Let's assume for a moment that there are no differences in construction between the two, and also no differences between exported and locally sold cars. Even then, it would be impossible to export an LHD Latin NCAP result to an RHD car without evidence. Secondly, that car had to undergo a pole test to achieved that rating, because it was fitted with side head airbags mounted to the seats. The new one gets full-length curtain airbags instead, and would have to be retested (plus, Latin NCAP updated their protocols in 2020)

Volkswagen Virtus will be badged GT for 1.5 TSI.

You can make out the small boot spoiler on this teaser image, a hint at making it (visually) more sporty than the 1.0

Will it have larger 17-inch wheels? Or wee bit lowered suspension? Can always hope but unlikely.

I like the supposed looks of the Virtus much better than the Slavia. The cleaner front grille and sleeker headlights would make for a more drool worthy design for a sedan of this size. I'd definitely be walking into a VW showroom before a Skoda showroom. I preferred the Rapid over the Vento last time, but it's the opposite this time. And possibly for a nicer change as well.

re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

After a long long time VW India is giving us a really good looking product. The timelessness of the styling is what is appreciable. The performance will be without doubt excellent as is the norm with VW. I am very interested in the powertrains that VW will use. Diesel - probably yes but would never trust them. EV/Hybrid - Don't think so. Gasoline - Sureshot superb engines.

re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

Honest Question. There has been a lot of reports of Skoda Kushaqs breaking down, having niggles and rattles all over this forum. But I am yet to see the same about VW's Taigun. Is there a glimmer of hope VW is going to make the Virtus a solid no nonsense buy with acceptable reliability like the discontinued jetta?

I like the fact that 1.5 TSI gets a GT badge, spoiler as well to make sure it looks different from the 1L TSI Virtus. Compared to Slavia, this would appeal more hopefully.

One last wish to VW, please have a 1.5 TSI manual top end variant unlike what you did with Taigun. Enough of Skoda-VW variant and feature distribution, people who like Skoda design and interior layout would buy that and same goes for VW as well, give us a fully loaded manual 1.5 TSI this time around.

re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

So would tomorrow just be an unveil and the actual launch a few months away or do we get it all in one shot?

Sincerely hope it is more than an unveil, but I think that is wishful thinking. With the Slavia, if I recollect, at the first unveil there was some embargo on the interiors itself.

I assume we have to wait through the process of the first unveil, then an overall unveil with bookings open, then a price announcement, then the test drive reports and then finally the actual launch in the market.

It is interesting that there is not much of a buzz around the Virtus. All the attention seems to be on the Slavia. The teaser seems to indicate a fantastic car. Eagerly waiting for the unveil in whatever shape and form.
