re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

What a smart looking car Volkswagen has made. I just can't take my eyes off it. I don't know why but this German car reminds me of the American dodge charger.

  • Wrap the red interior trims with matt-silver
  • Front parking sensors retrofit
  • Virtual Cockpit from global MQB-A0
  • Steering wheel from MQB-A0 Polo GTI
  • Audio system upgrade with subwoofer
  • Swap all cheap plastic bits such as headlamp switch, window switches, sun visors, etc. with parts from global MQB-A0 parts bin
  • One-Touch up/down for all 4 windows
  • Addition of felt liners for the door pockets and glovebox
  • Addition of liners for the upper part of boot which has exposed metal area
Would it be possible to do these without voiding the warranty?

Specs for comparision - Virtus Vs (Jetta)

Dimensions:
Length: 4561 mm (4659mm)
Width: 1752 mm (1778mm)
Height: 1507 mm (1453mm)
Wheelbase: 2651 mm (2648mm)
Bootspace: 521 litres (510 litres)

Pretty close specs, Looks like this one will grow on me.
Surely a strong contender to upgrade from my existing Jetta.
Me too was thinking this as replacement for my Jetta. Ticks in all boxes, but suspensions is a let down for me. I would have this car with rear multi-link independent suspensions.

re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

Interesting piece of puzzle is that there is no 1.5 TSI Manual variant in Virtus available for booking... Also SKODA SLAVIA 1.5 Manual hasn't reached any dealership for TD though it was in the media drive last week...
So VAG doesn't want to sell 1.5 Manual in these sedans??

A very good looking car, looks sporty, not a lot of chrome everywhere.

Thing i noticed is that the amount of black on the front bumper makes it look large, almost SUVish from the front quarter, but other than that, the rear, side profile, and the interior look pretty nice.

The Virtus looks so good. It beats Slavia out of the park. Usually Skoda designs were better among the twins. But here, Virtus has outdone Slavia hugely.

re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

Wow, finally a proper sedan. Very good indeed. I personally like the design of Virtus over Slavia. It's unmistakably VW and like many others said, it literally looks like an evolutionary update from the old Vento.

But the inside is a whole different story. Even though the fully digital cluster and AC control units looks nice at the first glance, I doubt the longevity and user friendliness of it. And certainly it's not my taste and I prefer analogue dials and physical AC control knobs anyday.

GT version looks hot minus the funny chrome on front and rear bumpers. Though the wheels looks like straight from the Polo comfort line, the blackened version on the GT version looks good.

I believe the side profile is the best to look at and it's pretty much looks like a Jetta in a good way.

The 1.0 AT/MT shall be good enough for most people and the 1.5 GT as usual will be great too. Only downside shall be the DSG woes. Regardless, good overall packages it seems.

I don't know if it's only me, but I think the GC is lower than Slavia.

Whatever it is, to me at least this is the best sedan in terms of looks and performance in that category. Closely followed by the Slavia.

If the Skoda service is better in your area get Slavia or else the Virtus. In Kochi at least, I found VW service is below average and never had experience with Skoda service. But Skoda sales were bad in Kochi compared to VW.

Regardless, as a sedan guy I am really glad the Sedan segment is coming alive slowly. Hoping more sedans will come soon.

The Virtus carries the VW design language but is also customized to Indian (general buyers) by adding chrome. Virtus is by far is the best looking sedan in the segment and would be my pick over Slavia. The GT trim specially looks cool with the black treatment.

Except alloys, car looks sexy. Not sure why VW chose such poor design for alloys. This will be parallel in price with Slavia but looks more classy.

Wish I had second parking slot, I would have bought this immediately after launch. Loving this car.

The alloys don't match any Virtus trim seen so far.
So I would guess no.

re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

Dare I say I am bored of VW designs and so called "German" touch. Since last 11 years I am seeing VW designs. Polo, Vento, Ameo, Jetta, Passat, T-Roc, Tiguan, Taigun and now this Virtus. Their faces look so similar, same grill with 1/2/3/4 horizontal line with VW logo slapped in the middle, side profiles with whisker, shoulder line and boring tail lamps with straight lines. Exception to this was 2010 Passat which had round shapes, different face and tail.

They don't experiment in designs, at least here with Indian launches. I love some of their international designs like Arteon.
See Hyundai designs 2011 -2022, altogether different. I like Baleno's bulbuous design, Honda's City, Civic and CR-V designs, Ford's kinetic Fiesta, Renault's Fluence. FIAT designs are beautiful.

Though they are not of everyone's taste but, they do try. VW's 2022 product looks almost same as their 2011 Vento. And people lap it up in the name of "German" designs
Just straight lines here and there. Their manufacturing finesse, build, tight tolerances look good but that's it. I am downright bored with their designs. I simply loved Polo in red, back in 2011. Till 2017 may be. But then they continued to dish out same things. Now my brain does not even register a Polo or a Vento. It gets lost in the crowd just like any other Maruti. Heck I don't even try to distinguish between Tiguan and Taigun.

Their cars, SUVs carry same faces, they are not as distinctive as say an Audi or a Merc.

Of course the electric/electronic parts would be partly affected. But in VAG cars most of the complaints are DSG failure, engine components failure and ABS sensors going kaput. I don‘t think ASS will reject warranty for these components due to those electric/electronic upgrades. Otherwise stay safe and do only cosmetic upgrades.
