I am actually kind of impressed with the way that S-Presso has turned out.

And as it's already pointed out by someone, the Original Zen looked quite good in stock steel wheels.

In my view, the steel wheels surely enhances the looks of SUVs and hatchbacks.

The red Alto you posted, looks good and neatly done.

As you said, a well proportioned steel wheel on a hatchback will look good too.
I have seen many good looking 800, Alto and Getz running with deep dish steel rims(or is it called something else?) and regular steel wheels which are blackened.

Coming to my personal experience,
I have always been fond of black alloys and black steelies.
Hence I had tried few different looks on my i10 wheels, in past few years.

Hope the below looks of my i10 wheels are decent and not weird/wacky.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned our very own Mahindra Scorpio. I found this picture on the Mahindra Emirates Vehicle Armoring website, and I thought this stance with the black steelies made it look absolutely drool-worthy.

The way I see it, steel wheels have their own charm, but only on certain types of vehicles - vintage, classic, retro-styled, 4x4s to name a few. To me, they seem out of place on sharply styled modern vehicles that are better off with fancy alloy wheels. But on the vehicles they do go with, steel wheels definitely ooze a whole lot of style and character.

Going with steel wheels on my Thar was of course a pure case of serendipity. When I was in the process of buying the vehicle back in 2015, I had initially decided to go with the 5-slab design of the official alloys but ran into a cash crunch at the time of taking delivery, as they cost an extra 50k.

I thought I would upgrade a little later, but the steel wheels had by then started to grow on me, even more so as I read up on their advantages in off-road and load carrying situations, compared to the strong but brittle alloys. Besides, it fit the bill as I was keen on a retro look rather than an urban SUV image. And it also helped that the wheels came with a black factory paint job and blended perfectly with my black Thar.

In retrospect, I'm so glad I kept the steel wheels, and no alloys are going to replace them ever.

Very nice thread! I have been looking for Padmini style hub caps (which cover only the central part of the wheel) for my Manza. I have lost all 4 original hub caps to various potholes on Pune-Satara highway and have been running on black steel rims since then. Would be great if someone can point me to a good source.

I like the steelies in their original steel colour like the stock ones in Maruti 800s & Santro Xings. Somehow, the black colour rims put me off, be it in steel or alloys.

The chrome hub caps in the silver steel rims on Maruti 800 looked very good, weren’t the same when the hub caps were changed to black.
Similarly, the silver half wheel caps on the silver steel rims of the Santro Xing also looked very good.

I like the look of these styled steelies on the 2020 i20. But the steel is not visible at all, it is covered by plastic gunmetal grey wheel caps

Steel wheels looks good in some cars like Jeep. But in majority of other cars here, it's the wider/better tire that is making the car stand out. An Alto with 145 section tire and steel wheels look bad, but on same wheels, a 165 section tire will transform the looks.

+1. It is the wider/oversize tyre on steel wheels which gives it a recessed look and makes it look good. Slap some wide tyres and give a fresh coat of paint to the steels; they will stand out on any car.
