The Maruti Swift is India's best-selling car of 2020

Maruti Suzuki Swift Remains The Highest Selling Car Model In India.

Maruti Suzuki sold 15,798 units of the Swift every month on an average between June 2020 and November 2020, and that despite the pandemic situation.

Out of the 10 bestselling models in the last six months, seven models are from Maruti Suzuki's stable. This pretty much explains why Maruti is the largest selling carmaker in India, accounting for about 55 per cent of the overall market share in the passenger vehicle segment.

There is a close fight for 2nd and 3rd place, but won't matter as all are Maruti Suzukis.

The first place and market share is neither surprising nor will it surprise for few more years though we might begin to notice a different trend.
Even if we say the general public are becoming more aware about road safety, feature savvy, our country has a huge number of people in lower middle class (in global terms), and their main preference would be the same FE and affordability and cost of ownership.

It will be some time before his trend changes, but eagerly awaiting for it to happen to see who (Competitor) will be taking advantage of that situation.

Re: Maruti Dzire dethrones Alto as highest selling car of 2018

High time Maruti stops milking Swift and gives a performance model to India. Their flagship car should have the widest range to capture customer interest as much as they can. Swift is probably the only hatchback that gives you the 'understated everyday car yet I can be mean' look - and this I can say confidently after owning GT TSi

I have said this before and I will say it again. Give us a proper automatic swift too ! Retain the AMT, but please introduce a CVT/torque converter too. That way we could get a proper automatic Hatch.

Re: The Maruti Swift is India's best-selling car of 2020

The Swift is perfect car except for the build and safety. It does everything well, has decent space and great fuel economy. My manual tranny Swift one returns 15 average even with horrendous traffic. The 1.2 litre petrol is smooth, silent, refined and fast.

The car lacks some un-important but desired features like cruise control, rain sensing wipers etc. What it could do with is 5-6 air bags and a much beefed up body with a proper hybrid setup. Indians love Fuel Economy and Maruti seems to giving it to them at the expense of safety.

The way to go is to beef up the car, put in a proper (read Toyota derived) Hybrid tech that will boost the fuel economy and you will have one hell of a car that is not only fun to drive, good to look at and reliable but also returns the much loved fuel economy numbers. Maruti I hope you are reading this.

Toyota Hybrid tech, 5-6 airbags, beefed up body, cruise control, rain sensing wipers etc... all come at a price. The price of Swift will shoot up with all these enhancements, and will make it unaffordable in India's price conscious market. Lets not kid ourselves, this is not going to happen.

Ok, let's assume if they are gonna add all the features you said. Beefing up will add more weight, so will the hybrid powertrain (assuming 48V mild hybrid) and you will end up doing a car which will have lesser FE and power to weight ratio and lose all the things you mention with a good 2 to 2.5 lakh rupees increase..

And knowing the SVHS gimmick, let's say it's safe to assume it's not gonna work out well with swift..

P.S - Remember Indian government had offered incentives to bring hybrids on roads and discontinued it? It's mostly because few companies were labeling cars without much improvement in FE or reduction in emission but just claiming benefits and that too not passing full incentive benefits onto the customer.

Re: The Maruti Swift is India's best-selling car of 2020

SWIFT maintains its lead and shows its numbers in the concluded calendar year of 2020.

Maruti Suzuki dominated the sales charts yet again with seven models while Hyundai had two; Kia’s Seltos ended up as the seventh most sold model in 2020

-Maruti Suzuki ruled the list with the 7 out of the top 10 from their stable.
