MG to introduce 7-seater Hector Plus in January 2021

MG has announced that it will launch a 7-seat version of the Hector Plus in January 2021.

The 6-seat version of the MG Hector Plus was launched earlier this year. The SUV comes with 3 rows of seats with captain seats in the second row. To differentiate it from the 5-seater Hector, MG has also made some minor cosmetic revisions. The 7-seater Hector Plus will get a bench seat in the second row. While it may not feel as luxurious as the 6-seater, an additional seat will add to its practicality.

The 7-seater Hector Plus is expected to get the same engine options as the 6-seat version. These include a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 168 BHP and 350 Nm, which is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol engine producing 141 BHP and 250 Nm mated to 6-speed DCT as well as a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid powertrain that is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

MG has also announced a price hike that will be applicable from January 1, 2021. Depending on the model, prices will go up by up to 3%.

Definitely! Unless its purely for chauffeur-driven use, I prefer a bench seat in the middle row as it makes the UV suitable for 5 adults.

Even that small 3rd row seat is scoffed at by adults, but it's a useful addition if you have kids in the house. They are better seated on the 3rd row instead of standing & jumping around the 2nd row (when you already have 5 adults onboard).

It is not clear whether the 4wd option is coming in the petrol or the diesel version. Any ideas, folks? it would make sense to put it on the diesel version, since the petrol one is already underpowered and will strain to handle even mild 4x4 applications that involve climbing or getting out of deep ruts etc.

Irrespective of the brand buzz and chinese sentiments, one thing which I would give them is continuous progression. Kia and MG have provided improvements sensing customer requirements and making a lead in the segment they operate. One thing to notice is the turn around time is really quick. Unlike Toyota's, Honda, FCA etc who are as dead as DODO.

I would say not entirely; they should have given a diesel automatic option long back and still they're not offering it and that makes them not as responsive to market demands. For a huge SUV like this demand will be centered around diesel power train and not having an automatic is a huge downer.

+1 I would one of their prospective customers as I do like the Hector but would prefer a diesel automatic.

Most likely it will be the diesel getting the 4WD option as with other cars in this price bracket, exception being the Thar Petrol this side of ₹50L! Also Petrol Hector has such abysmal fuel efficiency that the 4WD would just worsen it.

No petrol automatic for 7 seater configuration? Even though Hector was not in my wishlist, there was a slight possibility of evaluating for my next upgrade to 7 seater as facelift got some cool features. However no automatic is a deal breaker for me.

No automatic in the 7 seat variant? That's a big deal breaker.

Re: MG to introduce 7-seater Hector Plus in January 2021

Now the pricing is aggressively close to the Hector itself and by a mere Rs.50,000 why would any one go for a 5 seater Hector? Are there any feature differences? I don't understand this strategy.

I can see they are trying to play stretch(budget for those who care) and sell rule in variant strategy, but they will end up cannibalizing Hector with the PLUS.

Re: MG to introduce 7-seater Hector Plus in January 2021

Interesting updates. Not a big fan of the interiors here. My Hector looks much better with black interiors.

There's only two things that look worthy enough for an upgrade:

1. 18 inch alloys. Gives a much better appearance. Might upgrade to them, if I'm allowed to. Need to see the impact on fuel efficiency.

2. The update to the infotainment system. The WiFi feature should theoretically enable Wireless Android Auto once Android 11 hits smartphones.
