I had been seeing the car being tested almost everyday for about a week while coming back home from school. At first I was perplexed since Maruti had already unveiled the GV(or was it perhaps Toyota? I can't recall, but it was either the Hyryder or GV); and then there was the size and coupé-esque rear, which didn't quite match GV or its twin/look-alike cousin.
Then I recalled that there was a Baleno based crossover in the works and I knew this must be it.

This is Grand Vitara. The Baleno based Crossover is more detectable from sides and rear. Front looks almost same as Grand Vitara but the Crossover has more sharper front looks.

I thought so too but the roofline and boot-lid were definitely much more like that of coupe's than GV's hatch-like boot-lid.

Toyota SUV Coupe and Ertiga-based MPV to launch this year.




Both upcoming Toyota models will be built and supplied by Maruti Suzuki.

Ertiga-based Toyota counterpart to debut around mid-2023
Maruti YTB-based Toyota crossover to debut later in the year
Both models will look considerably different from their Maruti counterparts

Toyota coupe SUV:

will measure under 4-metres in length, will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and will have crossover styling cues with a jacked-up suspension and flared wheel arches.

It is, therefore, safe to assume that all this will be true for the Toyota counterpart as well, except that it will be styled differently from the Maruti. It has been internally codenamed as the A15 and is expected to see the light of day by the end of 2023.

This does not resemble the Baleno much. Quite a comprehensive effort to make it look like a crossover. Glad to see the boosterjet make a comeback, and with 6-speed AT too! interesting to see how this goes against the baleno.

But couldn't they have thought of a better name? Fronx? almost sounds like frogs.

Car was looking good until I stumbled on the rear image.

Am i reading it right. Boosterjet engine but with an AMT?

Any update on ground clearance?

Except the name, everything looks good on this crossover. Nice design and good proportions. I guess it will be placed between the Baleno & the Brezza. Good to have another option in the crossover segment.

No, There are two engine options 1 litre boosterjet and 1.2l NA engine. boosterjet engine comes with 6 speed AT and 5 speed MT. NA engine somes with 5 speed manual and AMT.

, the turbo motor returns with the Fronx and makes 100hp and 147.6Nm of torque. It is paired to a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox (with paddle shifters) options.

Additionally, Maruti also offers the 1.2-litre K-series (90hp and 130Nm) naturally aspirated petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic transmission.

Maruti has another Champion in their stable. Best looker in the segment (compared Nexon, Venue, Sonet) coupled with Maruti's ASS & reliability this will be the new urban SUV

I wonder that what Brezza offers to , Brezza is a SUV only in looks no 4X4 no RWD no Diesel, Fronex with the modern looks and similar size will eat away Brezza's share first.

Space management of Baleno is already better then Brezza, I hope this will be an improvement, Even road presence wise this is definitely better especially from the rear.

Only shortcomings are engine options, I hope Maruti launches a GT version with 1.4 Turbo

It’s actually a decent looking offering by Maruti for once.They are going full guns blazing to regain their market share, good for them.

I think this was cannibalize sales from the Baleno. This is supposed to compete with what? Tata Punch , Magnite , Kiger? Maruti should launch the new S-Cross instead.
