To add to that, here is my 2 cents on why I think they may be called High-Security Number plates:
1) They can be bought only from few authorised dealers. Not sure how the Govt is linked to these dealers and what they do after making the plates for us.
2) They are fastened by special screws. After the number plates are torque-ed(tightened), the head of the screw breaks. Once this is done, the number plate cannot be removed easily without a bit of effort.
3) The font type and size are approved by the Government and are easy to read even in the night.

I'm planning of changing the appearance of the license plate or replacing the current letters. The reason is that the letters on the current license plate are spaced unevenly. It seems that the person that pasted these stickers didn't judge the space correctly, there is less than 1cm gap between the first 2 letters and then progressively increases to about 4cm between the last 2 letters!

I'd started coming across news that they might introduce these 'High Security License Plates' since last year, but it hasn't happened until now. It'd be good to know whether they actually plan to introduce these license plates this year?

Is there any place other than the dealers where these license plate letters can be made in Pune city? The current license plate was made by someone appointed by the dealer for this work, they also pasted their dealership name under the rear license plate!

i got mine as well but i ve 2 way tape to stick to my bumpers
costed me 500inr in bangalore

Its costs around 750 for a car and around 350-400 for a bike. There is a guy on airport road, bangalore who does it.His no is 09341230174.The plates can be fixed without the non usable nut also. But it will not serve the purpose then

Its available in Koramnagala ,for 800 and 450 for cars and bikes respectively.

In Delhi look up for Patel Bros in CP .. you will find these easy.. its for Rs800 and comes with a default size and fonts. Fits all...

Guys,

Where can we get this in Chennai & at What moolah?

Cheers,
RS

M/s Signs India Ltd
810 (Old 406) Anna Salai
Mount Road, Nandanam
Chennai - 600 035

They seem to be the ones who got the ARAI approval in chennai to make these plates

Where can this be bought in Pune city? I'd tried calling some accessory shops here, but they say that they haven't heard about it yet. I don't think that they've finalized the design yet, it might have to be replaced when the final version is approved.

Its more to do when a car is stolen and plates are removed or changed.
Also most in illegal street races..cars run without their number plates.

Yea, its not at all common for number plates to be stolen, but Taxi guys are notorious for using 3 different things on the same number plate, even swapping number plates got one plate doesnt have the NP, so effectively 2 cars with the same number can be driving around in different states!
