Recently, a kid found that the aluminium number plate was fun to play with. As a result, she kept bending it and 'playing' with it only to break it. I had just come down my wing to go to work and there stood a cute 2-year-old with the piece in her hand. Could not say much except telling her "You should not do this"
Now, I need a new set since cops halted me last evening for the MH missing from the broken number plate.
NEED to know what is legal and if these HSRP number plates are available. Or else, the rip-off versions that look like the HSRP but without the laser etched on the plate.

What about vehicles traveling from states (where HSRP is not yet mandatory) to other states, who have mandatory HSRP ? Uttarakhand had made it a legal requirement.

Their requirement is for cars registered in Uttarkhand. They can't enforce this on out of state cars that are visiting Uttarkhand.

If you re-register that car in UK you will have to get a HSRP.

I had paid my dealer 750 rupees today itself to get the high security number plate. After going through this thread, I called them back to cancel the request.

I think I'll go to RTO myself to get this done. Any online links for folks in Delhi?

Just a small query especially with reference to my OCTAVIA, is the HSRP affixed using normal philips screws or is it snap locked into place using special tools? In my car it's been affixed using normal screws which I feel defeats the very purpose of the HSRP. Appreciate any inputs with regards to Octavia only.

As you would have realised going through this thread, Karnataka state is yet to introduce the actual HSRP. The ones available in the market for ₹600-900 are just the replicas. Hence at the moment, you cannot get them anywhere. However, from the last week or so I am hearing rumours to the effect that the all RTOs will start distributing the Supreme court mandated original, tamper proof HSRPs very soon.

Irrespective of the vehicle, HSRPs have only one purpose, detest theft and increase vehicle traceability, and hence, it HAS to be riveted to its mounts on the front and the rear of the vehicle. No exceptions.

Well, *replicas* in what sense? From what I can see, bcoz the numbers and letters are embossed, it still serves the purpose (in that one can't paint a different fake regn# over it). Of course, one can unscrew and install a different number plate altogether, but thats a limitation abroad too (atleast in the US as of 5 years ago).

So unless the replica is deficient in some manner compared to the real one thats yet to be introduced (in KA), it seems reasonable to still value the HSRP *replica*. Or am I missing something?

Where are these *replicas* available in Bangalore, btw?

HSRP also has a rfid tag that carries the license plate number.

Plenty of vendors for non hsrp embossed plates in Bangalore, in a variety of fonts.

This thread has several mentioned, pick one in your area.

@hserus; Yous statement 'variety of fonts' gives the game away. afaik the font must be standard for HSRPs, and you should not be able to pick & choose.

There is a visible difference in the font used in the HSRPs issued in various states. I am in West Bengal at the moment and I can see two types of fonts used in the HSRPs affixed on the vehicles here.

I am referring to the proper HSRPs which have the laser etched code below the hologram and are riveted to the bumpers not the replicas.

The police are already - for the past two or three years - pursuing people with nonstandard HSRP - but they do this very on and off. The ones with the blue IND strip at the side, like fake EU license plates, or with any other logo, are being targeted much more than plates with plain embossing instead of stickering or painting, and a plain font rather than the German ones with the gap in letters / digits.
