Do you have the same mobile number for your vehicles registered in vahan?

You need to update your mobile number through the Vaahan portal. You will find video tutorials to do so.

Re: High security registration plates (HSRP) in India

Hi,

How does one get HSRP for MH cars outside the state? Have a 2015 MH car that's currently in Karnataka, with no means of driving it back before November. It doesn't qualify for KA plates either since it's been there for less than a year.

The link here says that I have to surrender the existing plates :( Please respond.
Surrendering the number plate depends on the dealership.
With me, they gave my old plates back to me and ask me to destroy it.
I took it happily as I was not intent on giving it to them.
I would advise ask for your old plates and keep it with you and destroy it to avoid any illegal usage of the old plates.

That will spoil the numberplate for sure.
I went back to the dealership and asked them to rivet the number plate.
No questions asked.
They actually took both my scooters on priority and fitted it while a couple of people were waiting in line to have their number plates fixed.

Took less than a 5 minutes to remove the bolts and fit with the rivets and I was back home within 20 minutes (from home - dealership - back home)
So all sorted now.

My car also was Pune registered in 2016. My phone number was not updated on the Vahan site but I received the OTP on the number I put while booking.
I got my HSRP plate fixed but I was not able to update my mobile number because my name on the RC book mismatches with my name on the Aadhaar card. I had to go personally to the Pune RTO and submit an application for mobile number update which I did last Tuesday. I am still awaiting the update. Incidentally I live in Goa now.

Re: High security registration plates (HSRP) in India

I have been trying to apply for HSRP since last one week through MHSRP website but I have not been able to get the OTP to complete the process. I must have tried for more than 50 times, during multiple days and different time of the days. I have checked the number as well, it is correct. Has anybody faced a similar problem, if yes, could you please share how did you resolve it?

P.S.: OTP from other websites/apps are coming without any issues.

Re: High security registration plates (HSRP) in India

Same for me. Everything is done but the OTP just does not get generated.

My vehicles details and mobile number are up to date on the Vahan site too. Without the OTP, cannot proceed with the payment and the process.

Any solution?

This worked totally. Unbelievable validation system. My wife's number has nothing to do with any car we've bought and it still worked.

OTP for booking:

a month back when I was trying to book HSRP for my scooter and car, even after many attempts I was not getting OTP SMS on mobile. I rechecked on Vahan portal, and surely my mobile# was correct. Then I contacted Rosmerta vendor, they responded - try to disable DND service on mobile. I left aside that matter for few days (went for MahaKumbh trip), and again tried but still didn't get any OTP. I even disabled DND on my mobile service provider, but didnt get OTP SMS. However now I noticed of getting OTP over the email id which I was entering in HSRP form. So I went ahead with that, and all booking went fine.

Appointment :

The previous day of my appointment date, I called the vendors (car and scooter), and both said of not receiving the plates. So I logged a ticket on Rosmerta portal, and second day I got a callback from their side as to wait for 2-3 days and then recheck with respective vendors, and no need to reschedule any appointment on portal.

Finally, the plates for my scooter were delivered, which I confirmed over phone. This vendor was quite near to my home, and reached there yday morning.

Plate Installation (scooter) :
Firstly, I signed their register book for their entry.
The guy first unscrewed the front number plate from its bracket, and drilled holes on the new hsrp plates based on the hole position of old plate. At first he was using the same screws to fit the hsrp, but I said to use rivet method to secure it and make it legal. While trying the rivet was not getting inserted due to thickness issue, and so he suggested to visit nearby fabrication shop for getting a broader drill in the bracket.

For the rear number plate, the nuts were really jammed, and he again advised to get it cut from the same fabricator.

I went to that fabricator, and this guy said of attending several such customers. The rear nuts were removed quickly. For the front bracket, the rearside affixed nut was removed carefully using grinder, and then holes were made broader. I paid him and went to hsrp guy.

Front and rear plate fitting was done quickly, he placed a metal washer behind each rivet. He took pictures and conveyed that will later update the portal for entry. I categorically asked him to notice the different serial numbers for Front and Rear plates. He said the portal would be updated in 2-3 days. For the old plates he said would send for destruction, but for safety sake I just bent them few times, and peeled the vinyl letters at few places and left it there.

In this whole process, I didnt get any SMS.

Validating on Vahan portal :
Today I check the portal, but didn't find any reference of plates installed. My method :

Vahan Portal --> Vehicle Related Service --> Enter State ---> Enter Reg Nu --> (top menu) Services --> Additional Services --> Know Your Vehicle --> Enter Reg Nu, Chassis & Engine nu ( in full) --> click for OTP on the registered number (shown as masked) --> A page will show entire details of the vehicle (eg. Specs, Registration, Insur
ance), and a section "HSRP Details :", but in my case for this scooter its showing "Not Available" ( I hope this would get updated soon)

(for my recently purchased bike, this portal section is properly updated with details of plate serial for front & back, and installation date. I recall that after few days of taking delivery of bike, I had visited dealer plate for the hsrp installation).

PS: do let know if any other process to validate on the Vahan portal ??

Tomorrow I will visit another vendor for the car plate installation, this is a bit away from my place. Will update the details here soon.

Re: High security registration plates (HSRP) in India

Trying to order the HSRP plates for my RX100, however in the OEM vehicle type, options are only for heavy vehicles. What I was told is we need the RTO to change the maker from Escorts to Yamaha. This will solve the issue and I can order the HSRP plates for the bike. Has anyone faced this issue please?

Re: High security registration plates (HSRP) in India

I was at the Pune (MH12) RTO for some license related work the other day and saw a group of about 20 people demonstrating against HSRP imposition just outside the RTO. Didn't join in but gave them a big smile and a thumbs up.

As per the Indian Express, there are 2.1cr vehicles plying on the road in Maharashtra and each of them needs to have HSRP installed by April 30th. It's a logistical nightmare and the current vendors cannot even keep up with the demand so far, which I am pretty sure doesn't cover even a fraction of the full set.

I sometimes wonder who comes up with these harebrained ideas of "progress" rooted in large-scale disruption- we have seen it in case of sun film, then FASTAG and now HSRP. It would be unthinkable in any civilised country.

Re: High security registration plates (HSRP) in India

Appointments for HSRP fitment in the Mumbai/Thane region are now available post April, it seems. Just got a call from my cousin who got an appointment for 3rd May in Malad!

Re: High security registration plates (HSRP) in India

Sharing my experience below. Some points have been already covered in earlier post. Hope this helps.

Here are my two cents on this entire mandate.

Pros:
  1. Good way to bring consistency across the country for all vehicles.
  2. The HSRP numbers are much better to read and these plates look really nice IMO.
  3. It's a good way to discard old vehicles (indirectly). While people will find some workarounds (Jugaads). I heard from somewhere that Govt. is going to bring stricter rules and penalties for vehicles not having HSRP.
  4. Good way to reduce the unauthorized usage of stolen vehicles.

Cons:
  1. Logistical nightmare. Clearing the pending inventory is going to take months, maybe multiple years.
  2. The cost is exceptionally high. In MH the rate is almost double.
  3. Vehicles of “Dada” “Nana” “Anna” “Appa” (tiger, watch, lotus logo vehicles) will be likely exempted from the HSRP mandate. These folks will continue with their fancy number plates (or no number plates)
  4. For any repairs (removing front bumper, fairing etc.), you have to break the fasteners.

After the news of HSRP started making rounds, I decided to take the plunge. I have 4 vehicles purchased pre-2019. Ertiga, WagonR, KTM Duke, TVS Jupiter.

Initially I purchased HSRP for WagonR and TVS Jupiter during the second week of January. Got the appointment date/time within a week’s time.

WagonR
  1. Visited the near by Maruti ASC
  2. They asked if I wanted to buy the plastic number plate garnish (holder). I thought it would be good to protect the number plate and it will also avoid any vibration since these plates are directly bolted on the body panel.
  3. The price of Garnish quoted was 500/- I tried to negotiate but they did not budge. 500 bucks for a cheap plastic part was exorbitant.
  4. The installation was completed within 5 minutes as there were no other cars.
  5. For the cars they stick a local RTO sticker on the windshield.
  6. New and old plates were taken and Old plates were returned to me.

Jupiter
  1. I got the appointment immediately next week.
  2. Visited the nearby TVS dealer.
  3. When I asked about the number plate holder they said they don't provide it.
  4. The technician used normal bolts to install the plates. When enquired about fasteners he said we don't use fasteners.
  5. Installation was completed within 5 minutes.
  6. There were 2-3 scooters waiting after me in the same time slot.
  7. New plates picture was taken and Old plates were returned to me.

Got some confidence with these two vehicles hence decided to go for the remaining vehicles.

Also looking at the plastic holder cost, I decided to purchase online. Got it at a much cheaper rate from Amazon.
Motorcycle: 79 Rs.
Scooter: 110 Rs.
Car: 225 Rs.

By the second week of February the overall awareness had increased thanks to various WhatsApp groups. Also the web sites started giving issues like time out, not receiving receipts etc.

After a few attempts over a week’s time, I was able to book the appointment for both the remaining vehicles. I did not receive the receipt and I had to reach the customer care. They shared the receipt within a week.

Do remember to note down the Order ID since the SMS or email does not work in most of the cases.

For Jupiter, I did a DIY to install the number plate holders.

Ertiga
  1. Went to the same MS ASC. This time saw 4-5 cars waiting for the installation.
  2. Since I know the folks at the ASC they installed it on my car immediately. They did not push me to buy the plastic holder since I already had it.
  3. It was done within a few minutes.
  4. New and old plates were taken and Old plates were returned to me.

High security registration plates (HSRP) in India-ert.jpeg
TBHP Sticker

Duke
  1. I had removed the org. Number plate as it looks really bad for a nice naked bike. Hence I put it again so that HSRP can be installed.
  2. No KTM dealer was available for the HSRP website hence selected a nearby Hero dealer.
  3. Went to the dealer on the appointment date/time and noticed a complete mess.
  4. There were 5-6 people waiting who were told by other dealers about their plates being delivered to wrong dealer. People were getting anxious and there were unnecessary heated arguments. The number plates were lying haphazardly all over the place.
  5. They could not find my number plates. I requested them if I can personally check. So I went through the entire pile of number plates, checked through their daily appointment list on the computer without any luck.
  6. One of the sensible guy told me that there is a delay of delivery as the volume has increased and the manufacturers are unable to cope up and I should check in 2-3 days time.
  7. Went to the dealership after 5 days and to my luck the plates were delivered.
  8. Knowing the Jupiter experience, I requested the installer if normal bolts can be used and he said it’s okay.
  9. The guy could not fix the plate in the plastic holder and I had to take matters in my hand.
  10. New plates picture was taken. Old plates were returned to me.

High security registration plates (HSRP) in India-duke.jpeg

Imp. Note:
  1. Ensure the installer takes picture of the new plates which he is supposed to upload on the Vahan portal.
  2. The agency which handles the MH installation clearly lacks proper IT infrastructure. Received the SMS of few updates very late. The communication is not upto the mark. The website is also buggy and not user friendly.
  3. Do not forget to note down the OrderID after placing the order.

How are these bolts even High Security? Won't an individual unscrew the bolt and remove the plate. The non-removable fasteners are used so as to make it impossible to remove them easily. Such installations defeat the whole purpose of implementation.
