Re: Scoop! Design of Ford’s XUV500-based SUV almost ready

Ford- M&M JV SUV we are talking about in this thread is still under early development stage and launch will be around early 2022 , and there is more chance that this launch might even push towards mid 2022, we may come across some test mules around Mid 2021 if we are lucky.

Re: Scoop! Design of Ford’s XUV500-based SUV almost ready

In all probability the point of the JV for Ford is to utilize Indian manufacturing for exports. As a bonus if they sell a few thousand cars in India every year they'll have killed two birds with one stone. Low risk/low cost shared manufacturing and the claim to have India as a market on annual reports.

If they were really interested they'd have brought over their emerging market SUVs/sedans/hatches from Thailand/China etc long ago. AWDs and such are pipe dreams in my opinion. It'll basically be an XUV with a Ford badge and the rest is all marketing fluff. I hope I am proven wrong. I'll be the first to get a Ford AWD SUV at ~ 25L if it ever lands up here.

Re: Scoop! Design of Ford’s XUV500-based SUV almost ready

Two of my favourite Indian automakers. When I heard that some sort of JV or MOU was happening I was all smiles. The reason Ford's dynamic chassis, reliability & it's experience in the world market, Mahindra's design, rough & tough construction.
Hopefully these new products will have the plus points of both manufacturers & will be more safer yet competent.

That thing is only going to make the XUV look better! That Ford front is just not going well with the Mahindra design.

I won’t look much into this render by MotorBeam! They have not only ruined the prev-gen XUV500’s design but also Ford’s upcoming SUV.

Door handles - Range Rovers (Evoque, Velar)
Side profile - LR Discovery Sport
Front end - Ford’s upcoming SUV
Alloys - Downsized Raptor one’s
Overall proportions - Current gen XUV500.

Autocar had mentioned that Ford has confirmed that their SUV will be ‘‘based’’ on the next-gen XUV500 but will have ‘‘distinctive’’ family looks from other Ford SUVs.

the word 'based' can be seen differently. Sometimes it could just be the platform/Chassis and sometimes the full monocoque and laziest of all being Badge Engineering.
I suspect Ford may choose to keep the full monocoque and play around only with the Class A surfaces which is where styling matters. Here again, they could keep the visual changes to the 'soft' parts such as bumpers, grille, Headlight etc by keep the full sheetmetal as-is. I am beginning to think it is the latter approach that Ford will go for since it needs very little investment. I am not holding my breath on this one.

Ford’s version will share the chassis, suspension system and engines, but these will be comprehensively re-tuned to meet Ford’s requirements. Like the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, each will also have their own individual identity.* While it’s not clear if windscreens, windows and doors will be different at this stage, what we are sure of is that the pair will look almost nothing like each other, with the SUV with a blue oval on the nose having a clear Ford identity.
Quoting my post which I had shared earlier, the information Autocar had shared.

Looks like this is the 2021 Ford EcoSport and not the XUV500’s Ford-based SUV.

Hope they improve the 1.5 diesel on this one, AT option too would be good.

Answers many questions, yet brings a whole lot of new questions.

True. Love the 1.5l diesel in the smaller Fords, but after driving 1.5l diesels of the XUV300 and Nexon, the Ecosport 1.5tdci does shows it's age.

Don't know if it is the same engine, or a completely new one.
In Europe, the 100bhp version gets a 6 speed manual, and the 1.5l Ecoblue diesel gives 125bhp and 300nm.
But for India, Ford may use Mahindra's 1.5l diesel engine.

Not much to lose as both Ford and Mahindra have more or less the same reliability history....
...as long as suspension/steering is tuned by Ford

Although but I thought I'd share these here.
This mysterious Ford got leaked on the internet. What do you guys think it is? To me, it looks like it's for the Chinese market because of that huge screen that many automakers are doing over there to lure the local audience.

Re: Scoop! Design of Ford’s XUV500-based SUV almost ready

Looks like a Ford Mondeo replacement.

Quote:
These are the first pictures of the new Ford Mondeo replacement. Ford did patent the name "Mondeo Evos" a while ago.
The new model is supposed to be a raised wagon competing with the Subaru Outback. But from what we can see of the profile, this looks a lot like the Mustang Mach-e. More of a fastback style than a wagon type.

What do you think this is??

- The new Ford Evos "wagon".
- Ford's new "smaller than Mach-e" EV.
- A Mach-e based new model.
- The Chinese market version of the Mach-e.

Re: Scoop! Design of Ford’s XUV500-based SUV almost ready

It is massive, I am not a big fan of the touchscreen displays in cars but this looks very upmarket ( in the sense, able to handle vehicle controls - A/C and other) freeing up the central console space which adds more elegance.

Also, It doesn't look like the typical 12+12 inch screen, much more elongated. It looks like the guy who calls for shotgun can have a screen to himself.

Re: Scoop! Design of Ford’s XUV500-based SUV almost ready

Ford pulled the plug of Mahindra-Ford JV. It was much faster than anticipated. So W605 probably will be axed , we will get to know more about this in coming days.
