Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

Voted for Dark with a few comments:
1. A quality dark interior ages better in my opinion. My Cruze with black fabric seats looked brand new even after 6 years & 111K km. Only the driver seat showed wear, and that too because I neglected to fix the flaws when they first appeared. My 2007 Aveo LT had one of the classiest interiors (for those times), and was one of the biggest factors why we went for it.
2. A dark interior can be substantially 'lightened' by a sunroof. I am experiencing this now in the 330i.
3. Beige on the dashboard (top surface) is very irritating in sunny Indian conditions. See my Aveo dash on the windscreen side. That bright beige would cause serious reflections, especially when driving on a tree-lined road in sunny conditions.
4. Dark interiors look way more sporty and especially stunning at night!

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

Voted for light colors. I started with Japanese sedans. So everyone in my family including me got used to beige. So whenever we have tried to go for dark color interiors car, we feel claustrophobic.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

I like light coloured interior theme in cars as:-

Lighter colours mean that the car does not get as hot during summers, also brighter colours help people feel more "awake", that is my personal experience though.
Lighter colours make a car feel more spacious and elegant though at the cost of it looking less sporty and more comfort oriented.
There are cars which offer both dark and light combination which is also a great option according to me.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

My take

Dark coloured: pros:easier to clean i.e stains remain hidden a fair bit, more 'sporty' look, and given the design and colour of the car and how the interior can be veiwed from outside an additional bonus to the overall appeal.

Cons: heats up, often when I had to wear shorts for a quick drive, got by poor derrier baked by the sun heated interiors, some black elements like leather has the potential to fade.

Light coloured: pros: prestigious government feel an exception to the black coloured crowd, makes the interior seem more roomy, my personal take reminds me of clean sheets so if I am a passenger I usually get a nice nap. Stays cool under sun exposure.

Cons: unless formed/planned carefully takes away the appeal of the car makes it more bland i.e too much institutional. Harder to clean and stains remain prominent.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

Voted for "Light" interiors.

The sheer level of luxury and class that comes from light beige interiors is unparalleled for me. Yes they do get dirtier quicker, but a trip to the spa twice a year is all she needs.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

Voted for dark interiors. I had an Hyundai Getz which was sea of beige for 5 years and them moved to Creta with all black interiors. Was very apprehensive of the all black first but never felt claustrophobic or dull in the Creta. Not mention that it aged very well and light on maintenance.

My next car would be dark interiors but really look forward to more tan coloured interiors.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

The family car needs beige interiors for an airy larger feel of the cabin. It also gives a positive feel to the environment.

Dark is more sporty and personal, good for personal adventures. Dark interiors attract insects, can be very irritating at outings

I like light coloured interior with black or brown appointments. Some chrome here and there as well. Having said tha, I love the interior theme of the Jeep Compass.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

In my opinion, the colour of the interior should depend on the exterior body colour. While both shades have their own pros and cons, and most people do not have a preference as such, it boils down to the colour of the car itself.

For example, saturated beige interiors absolutely do not match a silver car. And black interiors in a grey car make things too dull.

On the other hand, majorly black interiors do suit white cars more, and beige interiors seem great with deep brown cars.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

Voted for Dark Interiors.

It's a personal favourite. I never really liked the beige colour interior and dashboard parts. Though, nowadays certain shades look premium and ups the appeal inside the car. Since, I maintain the interiors of the car, I find black pretty easy to work with. All stains are taken care. Sometimes, even the SC guys are careless and they leave fingerprints on the beige interiors. That's one thing I hate.

I can live with dark interior and actually feel cozy inside the car with the sun shades on the glasses.

Re: Light vs dark-coloured interiors

I always loved black interiors. But my Honda City had beige inserts on door pads, which I thought of covering with black leather, but left as it is. While buying my Rapid, I went for Monte Carlo version just because of the factory fitted all black interiors including door pads. I would love to get a light black/light grey roof lining too, but don't want to fiddle with anything as of now.
