Voted - "Depends on the car"

I love what VW has done for T-Roc. Even Altroz & Creta are okay. But MG Gloster looks UGLY.

Voted "Depends on car".

Some manufacturers manage to keep it classy.

Some seem to be doing it just for the sake of it.

MG might as well provide an accessory that projects G L O S T E R on the road lest people miss the badge!

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

Coming from the land of Horn OK Tata, Ac No hand signal, I think these will grow on people and will soon become default. Having said that, some are hideous, some are classy.
If in doubt i think the makers can err on caution and leave them

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

I don't like these bold monikers in the center of car hatches. I prefer the old school way of name-plate on one side and perhaps a variant badge (if present) on the other side. I'm not able to like the centrally placed + large font screams of the badges. Even with the same font-size in fact, I like the Nexon/Tiago badges in the old way for example. Not able to like the centrally placed ones.

And having seen a lot of cars across multiple countries by now, I feel its something that is a permanent "Nay" for me. Not really brand/model/name/design dependent. The OCD logic is set in ROM, won't be reset now . So much so in fact - that I don't like de-badging either. I like to see them badges where I have grown up seeing them!

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

I like most of centrally placed badges except the one's like in Gloster. Also too many badges spoil the party. Company logo and model badges goes well to me. I also like the side badges like on the Compass/Impala, for some reason this hasn't become a trend in India.

Same mistake happened with me as well, when I saw the thread title the picture came to my mind was about the Ugly G-L-O-S-T-E-R

It suits well on the TATAs and VAGs I would say. And definitely classy on the Range Rovers!

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

Voted No.
I remove everything except the brand logo, I prefer a clean look.

I get why makers are using bold lettering on their SUVs and compact SUVs. Instead, design your vehicles in a way that it stands out from the crowd so you don't have to scream its name out to get attention.

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

I voted for depends on the car. More like depends on execution.

The Gloster execution is a big NO. Infact it takes away the appeal of the car.

The T-Roc and Range Rover on the other hand are just Classy ! Not averse to the Harrier or Nexon either. I would prefer this iff the execution is right.

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

Voted for depends on the car. I think it is the company's execution and how they want to target the conusmer.

For example, Tata and VW have a done a classy job with the branding on their products. Others can make their cars look a bit tacky with the all over branding splattered across.

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

Suddenly there has been a craze among all automobile majors to include full rear body headlights. Looks like recent trend but they look nice. Some pictures from 2020 models.

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

It totally depends on the car. The new Superb and the Karoq also has the manufacturer name across the bootlid/ hatch and I like it personally. Love the one on Range Rover. However the one on the Gloster is hideous.

Since almost everyone feels that the G L O S T E R badging and the rear looks unsightly, here are my (if you could call them so) renders on the Gloster rear.

This one is the original:
Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?-c351abc94eb442549a179fa42796b126.jpeg
Like we have discussed on the Gloster thread, it screams ugly and dated and carries the huge much hated G L O S T E R badging, the one which made me start this thread.

The next one I did is the debadged and zero chrome rear of a Gloster:
Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?-70401c6dd0854b4ba7b7079d7863c7e9.jpeg Removed the chrome strip which makes the exterior feel a decade old in terms of design. Removed the G L O S T E R badging (Because it is pure appalling), 4WD (Wanted to completely debadge the car), ADAS (Cause it’s just overhyped by MG) and Internet Inside (Because it looks cheap). And now my eyes are finally back to normal.

The final one is this:
Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?-4fe809e1d9c94732bb15930cb2e1edd9.jpeg A more British looking red color badge, no dated chrome strip, small amount of chrome in the number-plate housing, Gloster written in the best SUVish font I could find & a 4X4 Badge.

So, which one looks better?

Note to Mods: Please move this into the Gloster thread if required.

The debadged one looks fantastic in my opinion.

I daresay it looks a bit like the 2017-18 X5.

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

Depends on the car.
Loved the TOYOTA written on old pickups.
TRoc does it well, so does the Endeavor (its on the chrome strip and not exactly on tailgate body). More than placement, I believe its the font and spacing which does not gel with the design overall. Harrier is acceptable but Aura and Nios, not so much.

Re: Big & centrally placed model badges : Thumbs up or down?

Voted for the Nay- Ugly as shit option

I will admit there are some exceptions but those oversized letters stretched across the back remind me of those owners who stuck S-W-I-F-T on their cars back when. Looked terrible, and always will.
