re: Fortuner owner pays Rs 34 lakh for 007 number

If not tax write-off, maybe a method to get rid of black money or return favors to his "friend" (after all, he's in the transportation business) in the RTO?

How would that be possible?

RTO payments like that for fancy numbers especially when involving such high amounts are made through bank and go to he government.

Re: Fortuner owner pays Rs 34 lakh for 007 number

The Bid amount of 34 lakhs also adds upto 7 (3 + 4) . Maybe that was the reason for the Bid increase from 25 to 34 lakhs. Some serious numerology at play here. Wish him all the best with his new ride.

But this number plate itself will attract penalty.

Sadly, most 007 or 8055 I have seen have absolute disregard to number plate rules as per MV Act and end up becoming part of this thread along with other examples too.

Re: Fortuner owner pays Rs 34 lakh for 007 number

I am sure these are numerological considerations and not fascination with Bond.

I personally know someone who paid Rs 35K for a Suzuki Burgman Street to get his favorable number 9. The human mind works in mysterious ways !

I myself paid Rs 5K so the total adds up to a certain number, but that was for my Nexon which costed Rs 13 Lakh on Road !

Well look at the bright side, when he sells the car he will get a higher resale value. I am guessing atleast a couple of lakhs extra.

Re: Fortuner owner pays Rs 34 lakh for 007 number

A close friend of mine bought a used Creta 2016 in 2019 - 50k driven (SX Optional Diesel AT) with a plate of 0007 that too in NCR at 9.50-10 lakhs approx. Seems a much better and logical way of satisfying the number fascination. Pretty good deal too.

Pure foolishness.
He could have used this 70+ lakhs on the New LR Defender .
Who cares the number plate when you own a mighty Defender .

While in UP, where I currently reside, vehicle owners disfigure number plate fonts to highlight numbers of their liking. In that way, even UP 12 X007 becomes UP 12X 007 .

Newer vehicle owners with HSRP are yet to show off their talent.

If he displays the number plate normally, then he is not liable to pay any penalty, as he has officially bidded and paid for the number.
The number that he has officially got from the RTO is GJ01WA007, which is Ahmedabad registration.
But I think he will have to display the HS registration plate as that is mandatory now.

You see, we are increasingly justifying human nature as calculated, rational and well thought-out, though a part of us is that, we are also an artsy kind, obsessed with numbers, colors, shapes and anything else that catches our fancy.

There is no logic per se, logic is only defined by the resources one has, to us Santro was the perfect family car at one point and there was nothing more to be had, now it is the Elantra. People who can afford only pseudo SUV's are happy with Venue or Sonet, with 20L Creta or Seltos, next up is the Tucson, even above are the Fortuner and Endeavour and to each owner they are all mighty.

I'm also shocked by just how much people dump into decade+ old cars in terms of sprucing up, accessories, repaint etc, because to my rational mind they are all metal logs being dolled up by baubles, but to those that do these things, it is a part of their past which they want to bring back to life and I understand that emotion all too well.

Point being, I think we've all over-analyzed and over-rationalized an emotional action (which has been taken with the buyer's own resources), I suppose all of you are pro-government with the way you've all supported demonetisation and most countrymen always keep saying that the government doesn't get enough taxes, well this one is all-tax, so take solace in that.

It’s just a matter if belief. Different persons have different mentality. Maybe its blind-fate or superstitions or like some of you may called it foolishness but in reality many of world best athletes have some superstitions/belief. I have my lucky watch maybe for him it’s the number. To judge him without knowing the reason is foolishness for me.

Re: Fortuner owner pays Rs 34 lakh for 007 number

Guys let's not be judgemental here.

He may have his own reasons for doing this. Some of us may feel it was worthless and he should've splurged on a better machine instead. Yet some others may feel he should've donated the money instead. To each his own.

At the end of the day, it's his money and who better than him to decide what to do with it.

Re: Fortuner owner pays Rs 34 lakh for 007 number

Wow.

I could get 0007 number for my Fz 25 from an RTO in Kanchipuram ( near Chennai ) for 7000 rupees 3 years back
