Re: 2020 Lineup: The Best Enthusiast Cars in India

The base variant of Maruti Suzuki S-Presso can be the cheapest fun to drive car replacing the last gen Alto K10.

Just don't go corner craving with it.

I think Force Gurkha also deserves a place. Hardy, more off roadey than any other off roader in India, good mod potential and a decent engine.

Re: 2020 Lineup: The Best Enthusiast Cars in India

Amazing thread

I feel the EcoSport should also be mentioned here, both the 1.5L diesel and petrol engines are a hoot to drive. Even after 7 years being on sale nothing comes close to the EcoSport in terms of steering feel, ride and handling balance.

The more I drive my EcoSport the more I love it. What a car it is indeed.

You bet! It is there in the last post. Currently not on sale as BS6 version is coming up.

What a heart stringing thread, right at the beginning of a festive week

While I understand the times and environmental needs, dare I say I am disheartened to see how diesels have been out shelved by the companies. It is apparent how the list is skewed in terms of Turbo petrols vis a vis Diesels! Hoping we get a more level playing field in coming years.

No EV on Indian roads finds mention here, GTO?

Re: 2020 Lineup: The Best Enthusiast Cars in India

I think the whole idea of an enthusiast car is gonna get diluted here. Every other bhp-ian have at least one or the other reason to call something fun to drive. The only segment of cars that may not end up getting a mention here are the MUVs. Even Hyundai’s are enthusiast cars now with the turbo petrol and improved driving dynamics compared to the recent past. So I think it’s a lot easier to name the non enthusiast cars.

I have the same question! I would have expected the torque monster EVs to be fun to drive with the kind of launch they can theoretically provide!

Re: 2020 Lineup: The Best Enthusiast Cars in India

I think Nissan Kicks deserved a mention here!!

It's essentially the Duster minus the brand value. The suspension setup is more or less on par and handling better than Duster from what I've heard. Enthusiasts who were let down by the decade old interiors of Duster should definitely give it a look.

Apart from that glad to see the Compass making it to the list, I still think this is the best 4-seater package below 50 Lakhs, looking forward to the 2021 launch.

Re: 2020 Lineup: The Best Enthusiast Cars in India

Hi Enthusiasts,

Can we add a poll option to the thread?

Good to see so many small turbo petrol cars in the list. But it's sad that regulations drive these moves from the OEMs. Ford when launched the Ecoboost turbo petrol, there were very few takers. Not many were fan of the turbo lag!

Suzuki had the Boosterjet, their only step for enthusiasts! Hope in next year's list we see the Jimny.

This year I think the new Thar wins the enthusiast's fancy!

Like Indian car awards, winner in each enthusiast car category
Hatch - Polo 1.0 TSI
Mid size sedan - City 1.5 Petrol
Sedan - Octavia VRS 245
Crossover - Seltos 1.4 Petrol
Lifestyle - Thar

Let the Teslas come! They will go to the top of the list. From the current EVs, none are absolute fun to drive.

Not really. Take ANY car on the opening page of this thread for a spin and you'll be .

True, true. The Duster was an absolute blast on the open road. It was literally flying on the expressway!

Re: 2020 Lineup: The Best Enthusiast Cars in India

Fantastic thread.

I would add the Nexon EV to this list. Is it peppy, economical and of course as an early "accessible" EV in the market, has loads of character, appeal and a uniqueness to it.

I have driven a friend's a few times recently. Its extremely comfortable at the back, has a brilliant ride quality and most importantly for this thread - is a HOOT to drive.

With brilliant modern looks (I know most people like the signature blue but the white EV IMO looks stunning) and a net price tag around the 16 lakh mark, I think this is a brilliant car which gives tons of driving pleasure at a really low cost of acquisition as well as running cost.

EDIT:

I feel for a 16 lakh rupee car, the Nexon is actually fantastic fun to drive relevant to that price segment. Given that EVs are largely city cars for now, the low to mid range FTD factor is as high in the Nexon EV than any other comparable product, if not more.

Proud to own 2 cars out of the list, albeit Seltos in its diesel avatar.

GTO,

I would also suggest to add "value for Money' quotient with this as it make more sense.

Say a powerful and safer car, than a regular and pricey car.

Fantastic thread GTO!

Would you consider to include the all new i20 in its new avatar, especially the 1.0 turbo motor which churns out 120hp power?
