1 millionth Maruti rolls out of Suzuki's Gujarat plant

Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant achieved a new production milestone as the 1 millionth car rolled off the assembly line. The millionth car produced was a Baleno.

The carmaker's Gujarat plant has become the fastest production site of Suzuki to reach 1 million units. It reached the milestone figure in 3 years and 9 months.

Production began at the factory in February 2017. The Baleno was the first model to be built here. Production of the Swift began in January 2018 and in the plant started producing cars for export markets March 2018. In January 2019, B Plant and the Powertrain Plant started operations.

Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant was set up with an investment of Rs. 126.8 billion. As of March 2020, the plant employed approximately 1,800 people.

Good milestone, but I hate this idea of a "Suzuki" factory. It's a classic example of Suzuki milking Maruti for all that it can. Maruti has enormous cash reserves and can very well build its own factories. Why the heck does it need to "buy" cars from a Suzuki factory in Gujarat, owned by Suzuki Japan?

The third unit of Suzuki Gujarat Plant has commenced production with Maruti Dzire, 1st Unit rolls out.
