Voted "I don't like it"

Like BHPian iamahunter pointed out, they started with some poor designs then went on to design some good looking cars (Accent, Getz, Verna) then spoiled with the next batch of designs (Verna Transform, Tucson etc). Came back with a bang with the fluidic designs which went well till recently and now they have spoiled it. Guess they only have rulers to design the car. This (Azera) seems to be the best of the lot currently:

Couldn't vote, but would have voted "I don't like it". The designs have become too loud. I had really loved the looks of the previous generation Verna, when I was considering the car couple of year ago (though had postponed the decision and have now moved to the next category of vehicles). The new generation doesn't look good at all. If I were in the market, would really have to convince myself to ignore the current generation's looks.

Voted Neutral. The styling is a bit weird, but I'm willing to make a compromise.

SUV: Not a big fan of the split lamp clusters. I'd get the SUVs in dark shades of green, grey, blue, brown, or black only.

Sedans and Hatchbacks: They're nice looking IMHO.

A note on the sedans and hatchbacks: If they keep elongating the head & taillamps with every generation, we'll soon have the headlamp and the tail lamps meet at the B pillar.

Given the amount of bashing Hyundai's design have been receiving from other forum members, I was certain that Hyundai had got it horribly wrong.

Obviously, I had seen pictures and all of the new Creta (which I felt showed the horrible design) but I saw it in flesh yesterday (yes, I don't step out of the house much in these COVID-19 times ) and it wasn't all that bad. Yes, compared to Kia, it isn't as good, but the new Creta was still pretty nice to look at.

So a neutral vote for me - the new design language won't make me go all ga-ga for it, but it won't hold me back from buying a Hyundai either - if the rest of the package is good enough.

I am all for funky and edgy designs. I am among the few people who liked the Bangled up BMWs, and I can also live with the massive grills they have brought in. But Hyundai, from time to time, produce cars that even a mother can’t love. That was true for the 1st generation Santro (and more true for the Atoz on which it was based), and is much, much more true for the Creta. I have learned to live with the looks of the Venue, especially the rear grew on me. But the Creta looks ugly from rear, and revolting from the front. I am sure even Hyundai feel they carried the funkiness too far. The rest of their cars are fine - I like the images I have seen of the new i20, I like the Nios, I like the Kona and have learned to live with the Venue.

The Creta is extremely polarising visually. I personally do not like the overly rounded and futuristic styling.

The new i20's rear end is problematic as well. The large, low set lights with the edgy design is not to my taste.

Their interior and new driving dynamics are brilliant IMO (I've only driven the Verna and Nios), compared to the previous generation of cars. This time the exteriors have left them down.

Voted neutral. SUVish vehicles look terrible from the front with the oversized grill and closed-eye-like lights. The cars OTOH look great actually.

Personally, I think Hyundai peaked in the "looks" department with the previous Verna and Elantra. The last of the designs from Hyundai that I really loved (from the team-bhp official review):





Unfortunately, it's been downhill after that, as far as looks are concerned.

Voted nay. Looks are quintessential for me and I’ll not buy something which is a sore to the eyes. The design curve of Hyundai is slowly going downward. I feel like it peaked during Creta (1st Gen) and Verna fluidic generation. Their designs used to look so amazing. Now they’re overdoing everything. They’ve even managed New Elentra to look substandard.

My vote is for 'I'm neutral'.

When I was in market for SUV three years back, Creta look did not impress me. My big mistake was not to take test drive of 1.6 CRDI, other variant was unimpressive. Hyundai lost one customer. Later Hyundai new Verna was launched. Handsome design indeed.

In totality, though Hyundai do not have weird designs like Maruti Ignis or WagonR, they are not good looking either.

For some cars like the Palisade, new Elantra, I think the styling works and helps to differentiate it from the crowd. The Palisade looks imposing and rather futuristic while the new Elantra is well proportioned and squat stanced.

However, for others like the Aura and the new Creta it just comes out as a tad weird with no cohesion in the front and back designs.

Not that I love the designs of new-gen Hyundais but these damn things surely grow on you with time.

I never liked the looks of Creta earlier but when I stepped in for a quick look the perception changed immediately.

Earlier No one liked the looks of Maruti Ignis or S-Presso and build quality of Baleno but sales charts have different stories to tell.

This is purely my opinion.

I have voted for "neutral".

My take actually depends on the car I consider. While I very much like the current Elantra sold in India, I 'sort of' seem to like i10 NIOS and Verna ( I myself own a Verna). I do like the new Creta but not from side angles. I don't seem to like Aura and i20. I agree that the previous i20 was the best in all i20s.
Looks are, after all, subjective.

In general, agree with your statement but I think the Fluidic Verna was an exception - it really was an eye grabber at the time of its introduction and took over the segment leadership as well.

My first two cars were from Hyundai and they truly revolutionized their respective segments.

Getz - With subtle mods, this hatch back looks gorgeous even after 15 years of its production. This was mine:


2015-2016 Elite I20 - This was so European and left me gaping at the stance the first time I saw this in flesh:


2018 Verna - This was my choice for the best iteration of this stonking C segment sedan:


2011/2012/2013 Elantra - When Honda launched Civic, it made all other cars on the Indian road look like carts!! Hyundai may have taken the inspiration to launch this Elantra:


2018/2019 Creta - If there was one pseudo SUV which actually looked like a real SUV, it had to be this iteration of the Creta:


The most recent iterations of Hyundai cars are Loud, In your face and for the moment type. Either one gets used to it or like me, despises it through and through.

After a disastrous/atrocious 2019-20 Creta, Verna and Elantra designs, Hyundai have arrived with the All New I20. Looks drop dead gorgeous from front, even though we THE HIGHEST TAX PAYERS don't get the all LED facia.


But the Koreans screw up at the rear with some weird design. I just used the Paint app to make the rear a bit more conventional, and it looks much better IMO:
