Rumour: Ford Endeavour Basecamp variant with offroad goodies might come to India

After the introduction of Sport Edition, Ford Endeavour BaseCamp is in the pipeline for India launch.

The American carmaker has just trademarked this nomenclature in our country.

Ford launched it as Everest BaseCamp in Australia and New Zealand last year. It is basically an off-road oriented accessories pack that boosts the rugged appeal of the SUV and enhances its capabilities to some extent.

The one that was launched internationally came with kit like nudge bar, bonnet protector, snorkel, tow bar, LED light bar, black roof-mounted carry bars, Pioneer roof platform, sunseeking awning, etc.

We might get the same features if launched in India. No other mechanical or interior changes are expected just like the global version. It is priced at around AUD $2000 (Rs. 1 lakh) premium over the regular mode in Australia.

From Ford Australia website:

Quote:
A genuine factory accessory pack has been released for the Ford Everest Trend, providing the heavy-duty SUV with more off-road capability and style.

Priced at $2000 including fitment at a Ford dealership, the Ford Everest BaseCamp accessories pack is claimed to add $6000 worth of extra features.

The list includes a bunch of worthwhile additions for those heading bush, including a 76mm diameter black front nudge bar, a genuine Ford snorkel, genuine Ford bonnet protector, Ford-licensed LED light bar, black roof-mounted carry bars, Pioneer platform and Sunseeker awning.

Completing the package is a genuine Ford tow kit (rated to 3000kg for 3.2L and 3100kg for Bi-Turbo variants), which itself is a $1000 option on all but top-shelf Titanium versions of the Ranger-based SUV.

Naturally, it doesn’t affect Ford’s five-year, unlimited-kilometre factory new-vehicle warranty.

As expected, the engine will be the same 2.0L single turbo.
I believe Ford will sell the accessories separately.
Hope we get the full kit to India.

If they launch it at one lakh premium as a separate variant, it might find few takers.

Better strategy would be to offer it as an add on for existing customers regardless of variant.

While 'Everest BaseCamp' sounds like a brilliant name, it really doesn't go well with the Endeavour nameplate.

Why does that roof bar extend towards the front so much?

Base camp?

Kinda reminds me of the Endeavour's international name.

Good thing companies are coming up with focussed variants like this, especially with MVDs clamping down ferociously on modifications.
Everything is fine as long as it comes from factory right?

And I agree it should also be given as factory fitted options, like the Altroz's customisation packs.

Not only snorkels, airbag compliant bullbars and lift kits, even basic stuff like tinted glass, UV ray cut glass should be given as factory options.

That is more to go with the vehicle's original (read international) name.

Looks like a frame for roof-tent/awning.

All these are only half-hearted attempts to keep a product look "fresh" in it's lifecycle.

The real full- hearted update would be the bi-turbo engine. Especially now when the Gloster is about to be launched in a few days.

Absolutely. They should sell the accessories separately to attract existing owners as well.

Thats an awning used to open while camping in the sun or on a beach.

The bi-turbo is long due. Agreed.
However launching the official Ford accessories will benefit the existing owners. Better late than never.

Looks more like an Endeavour "Railway Station" version. Reminds me of how all sorts of different types of luggage would be tied down on the roof of the car, before setting off for the station.
