Indeed the Endeavor is a great SUV and definitely deserves to sell more!

Ford went out of the way to make sure the suspension tuning in the Figo S and the Aspire S are markedly different from the regular versions which were deemed too soft. The result? Their manufacturing complexity went up but not the sales numbers. If the reception to such products are non-existent (at worst) and lukewarm (at best), the product planners inside are going to have a tough time justifying mechanical changes.
A bit here but all stakeholders are to blame.

The Central Government for killing the car industry with crazy high taxes. Volumes are too low to justify any sort of niche models.

Ford, for not doing it's market research right (I love cars but I wouldn't recommend launching a "Sport" variant with a different engine/suspension considering past history in our country).

Least blame falls on the hapless general public worried more about paying for fuel (again due to exorbitant taxes).

If you're comparing 2.0 BiTurbo with 3.2 then that make sense. But the Single turbo available on the current Endeavour is just 'adequate' as per Team BHP review. Its just 168 bhp (170 PS) & 420 Nm for a vehicle weighing 2410kg. The outgoing 3.2 engine was 197 bhp ( 200 PS) & 470Nm and the kerb weight was 2394 kg. The power to weight ratio and Torque to weight ratio matters here. why would someone spend 40+ L on a vehicle with 'adequate' power when there are other better options ?

When Ford launched Endeavour here, there were 2 variants 2.2 & 3.2 and the 3.2 variant contributed most of the sales. In fact the powerful engine was one of the reason for people preferred Endeavour over Fortuner. So i would say its commonsense to replace it with a equal or more powerful engine.

Going forward it will be difficult for Ford, especially the Fortuner face-lift is supposed to launch with a more powerful engine ( 201bhp [204 PS] & 500 Nm) and MG Gloster also comes with powerful twin turbo engine in the same segment ( 215bhp[218 PS] & 480Nm )

Completely agree with LionX. Ford probably did not pay enough attention to what is the market telling them from the sales numbers of 3.2L and 2.2L cars.

I think Ford is starring down the barrel here. Gloster will primarily eat into Endeavors sales - the loyal Toyota fans will still go for Fortuner. There isn't an thing called ford fans in India

Ford trademarks BaseCamp in India. It is an off-road focussed accessories pack. India launch possible in the next few months.

Thanks for the update, but what's the point if they don't give it the required muscle. A puny 167 bhp engine and they expect people to tow trailers with it

The puny engine aside I don’t think you can tow trailers in India! The pack could include factory fitted accessories like snorkel, body cladding, bonnet deflector and maybe few other things.

Of course you can - trailers are very much legal in India, as long as registered exclusively.

This is seriously half baked. You do some exterior black bits and then say it's a black edition. Too lazy to change the door handles to black or the interior colour scheme.

How can you sell this as Sports edition with a cabin bathed in Beige. The doors, the dash, the dash, all are completely beige. The Endeavour has more beige than any other sedan or SUV in this segment.

You can clearly see other countries that recently got this Sport variant get the all black interiors...

Ford has already mucked up the Ecosport variants (other than the expensive S variant) with terrible beige interiors and spoilt a long existing classic all black look. And now this uncoordinated beige interior with a black exterior theme.

It appears that so many people and potential customers want a black interior - including me - but Ford India continues this beige craziness - where the beige is easily blackened with dirt/dust, etc.

Fail to understand this - wrote to the MD of Ford India today, not received any reply...

Will I also end up buying another Fortuner this time...??

Has anyone tried to price importing the black interior bits - like the side door panels, interior body panels, etc. - including the seats from Thailand/Australia - or any other market where the Endy is sold? Was wondering what that might cost...

OR: Could one import one as a change of residence? What would be the import duty on that?

Atleast 10-20% increase in bhp would’ve justified the usage of “Sport” tag. Companies are botching it big time!

Well, the Bhavna Ford Sales Manager as well as the test-drive bloke keep referring to this model as "Sports" model...

I took the time to explain to one of them the difference in nomenclature...
