Re: Tata Motors to launch Camo and Dark Edition range soon

I'm not sure if I'm in the vocal minority here. But Tata needs to focus on the interior feel of the car before anything else. They have the mechanicals and the exterior spot on but the ambience inside is such a let down for a 20lakh car.

Laggy low resolution touchscreen,Soft plastics only on the top end variants, no connected features and generally a downer. The sunroof may brighten up the interiors but it doesn't hide the lack of quality.

Compare that to the Seltos that has got the interiors right from the base variant itself. And that's a whopping 7 lakhs cheaper than the base variant of the harrier.

I finally had to go Korean even though the harrier pulled all the heart strings. But it just doesn't get the feel of the car right for the money you are putting in.

Re: Tata Motors to launch Camo and Dark Edition range soon

Some of the comments on this this thread are hilarious.

No one but Tata will know the spending ability of these so called enthusiasts who keep asking for a AWD/4x4 - they have real numbers from Safari and Hexa, and across so many years/months of data.

They are giving the market probably exactly what the Indian junta as asking for - all the pretense of a rough-n-tough SUV without the added cost of the necessary hardware.
Such as - big SUV looks, big wheels, camo/dark colours, some stickers etc, not to mention oh-so-important touchscreens, sunroofs and mood lighting !!

They also know that except for a few 100s, rest all such enthusiasts will keeping typing away rants on keyboards but wont sign a cheque. As they say, words are cheap, typing is cheaper still.

And having said all that, I'll say this - Tata could have offered a post-sale customization option to get a 4x4 system fitted onto a Harrier. True enthusiasts get what they want, Tata wouldn't have manufacturing and supply chain complexity since these would be confirmed-paid orders, and most importantly, brand imagery is addressed.

Re: Tata Motors to launch Camo and Dark Edition range soon

Too many rants about it not having AWD. I don't get it. The West pre-dominantly needs 4x4/AWD due to their weather conditions (snow/ice). The fact that they have a well established infrastructure for off-roading is an added bonus use case.
In India, barring for a few who live in the Himalayas or the Western ghats there aren't any other perceivable use cases for an AWD. And how many of these will buy a +20lakh Harrier over a 6-8 lakh old gen Thar? I have friends who own Duster AWDs and I can't remember when any of them made use of it last.
TML has learnt their lessons and they will do things that make them profitable and I think that's pretty smart of them in the current landscape. Nobody wants another Force Motors/Gurkha kinda mess from an Indian OEM.

For all the 4*4 lovers/ranters/wishers here. How many of you have actually used a 4*4 low/4*4 high? Used all your wheel articulation, understand approach, breakover and departure angles? Understand how a tyre profile changes your off-road ability? Do you start in 4*4 high/low, first/second gear in standing slush? How do you judge the depth of a stream? Can you reverse down a hill climb without toppling? Will you seriously take your shiny 25 lakh/50 lakh 4*4 in the wild? Ready for scratches, broken plastics and dents? Do you off-road at all?

Well said. As a TML shareholder that has seen his holdings languishing in the red for an eternity, I for one am happy that they are adopting this approach. If their market research tells them that 4x4 or AWD variants aren't going to sell much, you can't fault them for listening to it. After all, it's this same market research that helped make the Tiago and Nexon their all time best sellers.

IMO, more than 4x4, if there is one mechanical enhancement that would be more welcome, it's disc brakes on all 4 wheels.

Now, you look at harrier and try to understand who is a harrier buyer?
You don’t need any list like you mentioned to know the answer. Look at the sales numbers of MG Hector, which is direct competition of Harrier in exactly the same segment. They are priced similarly too, except that Hector is slightly lower priced(because it has petrol variant and its automatic comes only in petrol). Plus Tata has been selling the Hexa & Safari for long time. They know the segment has potential.

XUV has been mostly unchanged through launch of Harrier 1.0(2019 launch version)& Harrier 2.0(BS6 with auto in 2020).

Harrier 1.0 sales reduced after the initial excitement because of lack of auto gearbox and the niggles reported.

Harrier 2.0 is consistently doing well now because those issues were fixed(also sunroof added).
IMO, it doesn’t have anything to do with XUV being old.

Someone on my street got the CAMO. The side branding is nice. And there is this foliage wall paper on doors. Looks super premium

Other than reversing down a hill climb the two of us have pretty much done everything above.

And you should see the dents and scratches on our cars. I don't even bother to wax the vehicle but "thewhiteknight" regularly gets his car detailed and has gone through a round of denting and painting.

And both of us are agonising over replacements for our excellent Grand Vitaras. Both need AWD at the minimum and would prefer petrol. I am very partial to full independent suspensions though "thewhiteknight" can live with a solid rear axle. We both want comfy cars for long road trips that are rugged enough for some off-road exploring, while being managable in the city. And we both hate DSGs. And are quite allergic to diesels. And don't get me started on the reliability of the premium European models.
There just ain't any sensible options today.

Tata Nexon EV Dark Edition expected in coming months

An all-black version of Tata’s Nexon electric SUV is in the works, sources tell us.

After Harrier, the second ‘Dark Edition’ offering in the range will most likely be the all-electric Tata Nexon EV.
  • Nexon EV dark Edition likely to feature all-black exteriors and interiors
  • Could wear a #DARK badge just like the Harrier
  • Will be mechanically same as the standard Nexon EV.

The Black Altroz looks as if it is some 'stealth mode' war Machine!
Mean, lean, and ready to attack.

The dark edition Nexon, looks 'okay'. Did not strike me as 'wow'. Maybe will look better at night, with the DRLs.

Good to have these options, but I am still waiting for that DCT autobox! When is that expected?
