Re: Pic: Ford Ranger pickup truck spied in India

Interesting times! I hope Toyota and Ford get aggressive with their pickup truck plans (if there is any), I really want to see the pickup truck revolution in India. The next gen Ranger is supposedly coming next year and this is how it will probably look like (note: looks like a clay model, final design might change)

Re: Pic: Ford Ranger pickup truck spied in India

I don't foresee any level of demand for pickups as we have the likes of Tata ACE and Mahindra maximo offering 800-1000kg of loading capacity at 1/3rd to 1/5th the price. Maybe if Tata or Mahindra produced a sub 12l on the road price pick up, the market might go for it.

That was quick- First the Toyota Hilux and now the Ford Ranger. These are head on competitors in countries like RSA and Australia.

If the manufacturers were keen on mass production, I'd love to see them absorb costs and sell at low profit/small loss until they start local assembly.

I think Rangers are the best looking midsize pickups!

And the Tacoma coming in a close second.
The picture you posted is the Ranger Raptor, not the standard Ranger. The Raptor looks absolutely stunning. But, sadly, even the U.S. doesn't get this truck. It gets just the F-150 Raptor.

Ford is coming up with the 2022 Ranger next year with a new plug-in hybrid engine and even a Ranger Raptor whereas the one spotted here is the present-gen. Even though it wouldn't be a bad idea, it must be noted that we'll be receiving an older version if this truck comes within the next two years.

The starting price of the Ranger in the U.S. itself is over $24,000, which is roughly INR 18L. There's no way it will be launched at such a low price in India. Although it rivals the Toyota Hilux and will be priced in that bracket, we need something that takes on the Isuzu.

Ford is building a compact truck smaller than the Ranger as well. It is most likely expected to be called 'Maverick'. This one will be much cheaper and will have a unibody design, something that will have better handling on the tarmac and good enough to take off the roads occasionally. So, if Ford wants to rake up volume, the Maverick would be a better bet, IMHO, as it will be slot between the Isuzu and the Toyota Hilux.

Re: Pic: Ford Ranger pickup truck spied in India

Now what if Ford launched the F150 Raptor!! I will certainly be thrilled. If heaven was a truck, it would be the F150 Raptor! It comes stock outfitted for the Baja 1000. So preying to the car gods that someone at Ford says 'hey, I think India is ready for this'...

Re: Pic: Ford Ranger pickup truck spied in India

This looks too good to be true. I was excited when the Hilux was announced and even in that thread fellow BHPians mentioned the possibility of the Ranger. If indeed this is true then my my what options we would have in 2021.. Thar, Hilux and then Ranger... pick your poison.

Logically launching a Ranger would make a lot of sense for Ford especially in the backdrop of the partnership with Mahindra. Between the Thar & Ranger they would have covered all that enthusiasts & petrol-heads need. However I think launching a plain jane Ranger would do no good. If they truly want to launch a halo product aimed at enthusiasts then it should be the Ranger Raptor. For all sorts of commercial and farm like activities, there is already the Bolero Pick-up so essentially speaking Ford should only look at enthusiasts only and hence the need for a marquee product like the Ranger Raptor.

True, but sadly the Motor Vehicle Department is somehow not considering the single cab pick up for private use. Its really frustrating that you cant register a single cab pickup with White Board (for your personal farm use etc as you need larger cargo bay capacity) with the exception of some under the table illegal registrations I am told in some interior parts of Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra etc.

You can register it only with a yellow board but then its mandatory that the driver has to wear a kaki shirt & pant and probably carry a commercial license.....and at every checkpoint you can be stopped for harassment/bribe etc!

Your only potential way to have a white board pick up is to buy a twin-cab, modify it into a single cab and drive...which surely is again illegal

And the ridiculous reason manufacturers/RTO gives why they cant register it as white board is - The present single cab vehicles from TATA and ISUZU do not have many safety features!!! So the commercial drivers' safety & lives are not important??

Re: Pic: Ford Ranger pickup truck spied in India

At the end, all comes down to the price. VFM is what mass market looks upto. Also manufacturers should note that there is no real NEED for someone to own a pick up here. So, if they want to sell in good numbers, they have to price it sensibly.

Unless some manufacturer does a Kia in pick up truck segment, sightings of a white plate pick up on the road will remain a rare occurence.

Just by testing/ advertising a Ranger or a Hilux in India will be of no use if it is not priced sensibly.

Re: Pic: Ford Ranger pickup truck spied in India

It is good to see the market evolving to accommodate the pick up trucks in India. Toyota and now Ford entering the pick up market is a good development. However i am worried about the numbers they would be able to sell here. Tata and Mahindra have been the pocket friendly companies for the consumers intending to carry load. Enthusiasts would hardly generate numbers.

This reminds me of the thread "Ideal three car garage under a crore", where I mentioned a X3, Endy and an Ecosport. Now, at 1.15 Cr, let me add a Creta too .

No prizes for guessing if I will go for a Ranger pick up or a combo of above 4 cars!
