The seven-seat MPV comes with three engine options. There’s a 110hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol, and there are two versions of the 1.5-litre DV5 diesel – a 102hp version and a more potent 130hp version. The DV5 engines were made jointly by PSA and Ford and also power a number of Ford cars and SUVs globally.

While it is not known whether the Berlingo XL will make it to the Indian market, the model seen here could be a test mule for engines and gearboxes for Citroen’s upcoming C-Cubed made-in-India range that is expected to come with the same set of petrol and diesel engines (1.2 turbo-petrol and 1.5 diesel

Is it only me who thinks that the shape of this looks more like Renault Lodgy, barring the front fascia?
The face looks too busy & cluttered to me at least!

Yes. My first reaction was "Lodgy with a different face".

That face is the reason why I think PSA should have launched their main brand Peugeot instead of Citreon. Citreon vehicles look too gaudy IMO. On the other hand, Peugeot vehicles look much better especially the redesigned 508, 5008, 208, 2008, etc... Also, they should concentrate on bringing EVs as soon as possible. They have decent line up of EVs and they are even building a completely new platforms for EVs.

Peugeot Brand has a bad history in India. GTO had mentioned this earlier. (Find the picture attached)

Also, i feel they should not venture into niche market of van sort of body style. Stick to tried and tested KIA's Seltos method. The quirky design and being an unknown brand is already 2 big negatives for the company.
Also I've been seeing a lot of Citroen ads on Facebook relating to their cars in 1950s, I think they are trying to take MG's approach towards linking heritage lineage but still not 100% sure about it, so stuck somewhere in between.

Re: Citroen Berlingo XL MPV spied in India

Citroen should take a leaf out of Kia and MG's books and launch products already. There is nothing like getting a product out there for people to experience and then expand portfolio.

I am a PR person by profession and I know PR agencies who have been working on Citroen's launch plans forever! They say everything goes back to the French HQ for approvals and take forever. Not a great sign for things to come.

Looks as bad as the Renault Lodgy, which apparently performed miserably. If Citroen is planning to launch this in India, probably would be a dud at launch.

Looks are subjective, but I feel the lodgy looks far better than this one. At first glance I immediately associated the looks of this car to be similar to courier vans I have seen in Germany. Definitely wont hold a candle against the Ertiga, XL6 or even the upper end of the segment against Marazzo and the like.

Quite sure Citroen is not lining this up in India. The positioning of the Citroen brand seems a bit premium and niche, hence they would not go down the route of an MPV, at least not for the first 2-3 years. Like mentioned in the article, they could be testing some components at best.

Ugly looking lodgy, why spend time and energy on such products in this age. With its ride quality, They could have converted it to a proper Ambulance and sold it as India's most comfortable Ambulance tag. At least all hospitals would have put some orders.

Re: Citroen Berlingo XL MPV spied in India

Citroen or Peugeot should just do a U-turn and head back if that van is their offerings. It is very difficult for a new brand to come to India unless they differnetiate themselves enough by creating a new segment (Renault Duster) or offering a much superior product (Toyota Qualis.)

Sell a hybrid van that'll offer 18km/l per litre of petrol in the city or highway, the market is bound to take notice. Hate to be political, but the only thing that may help the French is if Chinese brands put their plans for India on the back-burner.

Re: Citroen Berlingo XL MPV spied in India

Looks like a dead on arrival product. We have seen in the past with renault lodgy and nissan van(I don't even remember it's name).

However it could just be a test vehicle for some R&D purpose.
Also not a fan of their designs with too many elements all over which are often over the top.

Re: Citroen Berlingo XL MPV spied in India

So much bashing on product that we don't even have a conclusive evidence that it's on the list of products to be launched from Citroen.
As we all know Looks are subjective, especially in India where even a Box with a Suzuki badge would sell quite comfortably( no offense meant to Suzuki owners). And the French styling is definitely not to everyone's taste. I have not been a fan myself, but the recent launches have been very well done in my opinion.

Coming back to the vehicle in discussion itself, came across these upon a simple Google Search.

It mentions that the car won "Best Buy Car of Europe 2019" Award. So there must be something good about it, doesn't it?

https://www.citroen.co.uk/new-cars-a...troen-berlingo

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/citroe...rm-test-review

At 4753mm(L) x 1848/2107(W) x 1849(H) and just over 2Tonnes, I wonder if it's a match to the Lodgy( 4498L x 1751W x 1680H and ~1.2T) that's being compared against.

With as many so called SUVs and mini SUVs in our market, Vans/MUVs definitely deserve some space for large families to travel comfortably. I would like to see Citroen and also other OEMs to bring in more products to share the road with the Innovas and Grand Caravans, though might not be as premium but definitely functional in this case.

Re: Citroen Berlingo XL MPV spied in India

The Berlingo is a strictly utilitarian MPV. Used for people who like camping , have dogs or in a trade which requires a dual purpose vehicle.
