The new seats look quite good (the contrast stitching is something I really like). Not entirely convinced that it was a good idea to change the lower part of the dashboard and the door pads to light beige given our conditions.

Thanks for posting Power Craver, I was going to share my views on TeamBHP.

Got a chance to drive the i-Turbo, read my First Drive report -

So, Tata Motors finally addressed the "underpowered" Petrol engine issue by launching the i-Turbo.

The powertrain is the de-tuned unit from Tata Nexon, a 1.2-liter Turbo Petrol. This produces 110PS of Power & 140Nm of Torque.

Drove the car for a good 6-7 hours, about 100-110 odd kms.

Observations -

- The power band isn't linear.

- Mid-range is acceptable, High-end is amazing, low-end in simple words is Poor.

- This makes the Altroz i-Turbo an effortless Highway Cruiser but a very bad city car.

Other than the engine, all the mechanicals are same, so nothing to talk.

Few features have been added and among them, my personal favourite is the XPress Cool.
A very nifty feature that blows cool air at full blast & also opens the driver side window, a boon for the Indian weather conditions.

Scope for improvements -

1) An automatic - As most cities suffer from extreme traffic issues, public prefers to buy an automatic for their convenience, but the Altroz i-Turbo lacks an automatic tranny. Tata officials during the Press conference declined to comment on any future launches, but I hear from my little birdie that we may expect the Altroz i-Turbo DCT sometime around April, supposedly with better torque figures.

2) Better state of tune - Both the primary rivals, the Hyundai i20 & the Polo TSi churn out better power & torque figures than the Altroz, even after being a 1.0-liter Turbo Petrol. This being a 1.2-liter Turbo Petrol should be churning out wayy better figures.

3) Better Quality Control - The test car which I was driving had exposed bit of wires in the engine bay.

4) Atleast now Tata should do justice to the razor-sharp design by incorporating a shark-fin antenna.

5) Auto-dimming IRVM, atleast in the top-end.

A small yet significant point - Altroz i-Turbo has the lowest Power to Weight in its segment, 100Ps/Ton, whereas the Polo TSi is about 102Ps/Ton & i20 would be even more. They smartly removed the weight from the official website & brochure.

To be honest, the hype isn't justified!

Tata Motors could have done a better job.

.. if what he says is correct, then hope Tata will adjust the tuning by the time they launch the AT in April.

No offence but, I believe this should have been posted on 20th Jan and not today, the sole purpose of an embargo is lost then.

I was never a part of the official media drive & nor did I sign an Embargo form.
This means that I do not need to adhere to the Embargo.

The car will be a good candidate for a re-map but not sure if the gearbox can handle the additional torque and power. I had really wishes Tata had got the low end torque on spot, it would have been a great city car.

It was a dealer TD car. Aspiring journos like me are never involved to be a part of the official media drive.

This car was given to me as I maintain good contacts with dealers around my area. This is the route that beginners like me have to take.

The dealer is very supportive and makes sure that my views go unbiased.
