Toyota RAV4 to be launched by mid-2021 - Post moved to a new thread.

The new RAV4 is an excellent car and it pretty okay offroad. Given the hybrid tech, it will do 16 kmpl in the city quite easily. Infact I drove one here for a day and i averaged 20 kmpl without any effort. I hope they price it right.

As per the article it is rumored to be priced around Rs 60 lakhs. Is not Lexus NX 300h a better buy at those prices?

Also, why don't the companies bring their popular models via CKD route instead of CBU? If Hyundai is able to bring in Kona EV via CKD route, why not Toyota or Honda? How much costly it will be to setup CKD assembly?

RAV4 is having a good popularity in US due to its VFM features. Hope they will see some good potential in India and starts local manufacturing, dropping the price to 30-40 lakhs. (Fortuner & Endeavour, you listening ? clap: )

This is mega from Toyota, the RAV4 is such an icon, it created the crossover SUV segment. Bringing through CBU makes sense as they know the volume cannot justify tooling up their plant here.
Like the Vellfire, it will have a niche segment of buyers, given the stratospheric price tag of Rs 60 lakh! As per Toyota US website, entry level FWS variant is priced at just $26k in the US (or ~Rs 19 lakhs), pity it will be anything but 'entry level' in our country.

I drive Rav4 Hybrid AWD 2020 model(Variant is called Cruiser in Australia). I get an average of around 18.5 Kmpl without any effort. It is loaded with tech, may be providing all features in India is going to cost a lot.

With the government’s 2,500-unit homologation-free allowance. global mainstream manufacturers can explore a well laid brand building exercise .
Carefully select the global acclaimed models , plan for 2500 Numbers , work on a good price , some technical training to the dealers & you have a line up ready .
I feel any of the mainstream manufacturers has fully explored it till now. It can surely create a niche customer base & also aspiration for others looking at it . I feel this will also help the bleeding local affiliate with some financial support.
With the success of Vellfire , A brand like Toyota would not stand back to explore their prowess with the RAV4 or even some more models after that .

If it is launched at 60 lacs, it will be dead on arrival, whatever features Toyota puts in it, including highly efficient Hybrid engine.

No doubt RAV4 is a good overall product internationally, but price does matter a lot. Very few will accept it here at that price. Although not much is known about Indian RAV4 yet, still It would be very tough to shell out 20-25 lacs more over the already mighty Endeavour.

Isn't RAV4 a competitor to Honda CRV or Santa Fe? How can it be priced at 60 lakhs?

I doubt this 60 lakh price tag. Why would anyone buy it over the Fortuner ? Ideal position is between Innova and Fortuner. If it ia really 60 lakhs , they shoud give it the lexus branding.

60 lakhs for a RAV 4, a Hybrid version of the same costs 42 thousand dollars in Canada and this will cost 60 lakhs ex showroom in India, looks like its going to go the Kizashi way!

They could might as well start building this in India as if sold at the right price, it could be a runaway hit. Need to plonk a 2 litre or so diesel in this, give a 7-8 speed transmission with torque converter, price it around 20-21 lakhs on road and this could win a lot of orders specially since its a Toyota.

Since it is rumoured to come in a CBU form, the import duties will drive the price:

If pricing is anywhere greater than that of CRV, its not going to make any sense.
(CRV by itself is priced insensitively by around 5-6 lacs min)

RAV4 is less spacious compared to CRV and considered around that range but definitely not more, internationally.
Drivetrain and the engine being offered appears to be better, but don't think is good enough to command a ~40% premium

RAV4 is popular in the US for being a decent and capable car at the right price range which makes it extremely VFM. It is even outselling the Camry.

In the North American markets, RAV4 is priced similar or a little bit higher compared to Camry. Camry already costs around 45L in Bangalore, so RAV4 is going to cost more than a Fortuner :Shockked:
