Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

I don't know what exactly they want to test in Indian conditions that's still not tested after years. Hybrid system & 2.5l petrol are already there. If they are only testing suspension components this long, I don't know what are they making of a competent vehicle.

Better they bring it as 2500 CBU units. But teny none will pay Fortuner prices for this vehicle.

Testing the suspension need not be done locally. If it works in one developing country, it will surely work in others too.

Bad roads and off road conditions are available in many countries around the world.

The AC on the RAV4 is already tested in the Middle East.

This obviously is the test of the hybrid system or some thing new that Toyota is introducing.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Going by Toyota's Hilux launch strategy of tickling down the product information in instalments, I don't think the RAV4 is nowhere close to launch. I think once the conclude the testing and homologation they will stretch the product launch across 6 months with teaser, trailer, insight, unveiling, dealer unveil, media launch/test drive, brochure unveil, pre-booking, booking etc etc

Would be surprised if the launch happens in 2022 but nevertheless whenever they launch and whatever price point they launch it's one product which will bring certain maturity to the segment it is going to be slotted in.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

This is hands down my favorite car when I was in the US. Spacious and nimble, it ticks all the right boxes in terms of practicality. Sadly being a CBU it will fall in a completely different segment which is not what the car was designed/built/finished for. But hey if Toyota can sell the Fortuner at Prado prices, RAV4 would also be going that way .But with their energies focused on the Hilux at the moment, I doubt this is coming to India anytime soon.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

I don't think the RAV4 will be launched anytime soon in India. The waiting period for a new car (standard hybrid) is almost a year in many countries. The situation is even worse for the plug-in version.

Ideally a new launch should be backed by sufficient supply.

Okay since we have been seeing this car for a long time now with no news or internal leaks on a potential launch of the same, is it possible that this car could be testing the hybrid setup and other equipment that is meant to be used on the upcoming Creta rivals from Maruti-Toyota?
As per what internal leaks say, the new SUVs will be launched here by the year end and ideally by this time, we should have had spotted at least one of the two on test since even the Brezza meant to be launched in May made its spyshot debut way back in November 2021, 7 months before its launch despite the fact that it is just a major facelift while we have never seen any spyshots of the SUVs which are whole new products meant to be launched within next 8-9 months! Heck even the Celerio roamed on the roads in camouflage for over an year.

Makes me believe that this particular RAV4 might be here for testing since it has no camouflage, no internal leaks and not even proper testing plates!

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Is there any more news on RAV4 or Highlander launch ? Is Toyota waiting for Camry Hybrid stocks to clear up and make way for this suv hybrid launch ? I sense a bit of product cannibalisation as they may be priced very close if launched !

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

If they plan to replace the Camry, better launch the bigger Highlander here. I fear smaller RAV4 will only hurt Toyota in long run.

But there’s eerie quite in Toyota India camp on either of the new vehicles.

Interesting. They are testing the accessorized car with a Thule ski box and heavyweight roof rails.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

A bit puzzled re the Toyota strategy with RAV4. If they are bringing it in as CBU, why conduct such long testing in local conditions? Also, asking out of ignorance, is it necessary to undertake ARAI testing for a CBU import vehicle? Another thing to consider: though RAV4 and Fortuner are generally not sold in the same market, where they are (Dubai, for example), the RAV4 is cheaper than the Fortuner. RAV4 is, after all, a 5-seater, unlike the Fortuner. In India, it makes no sense as a CBU if it is going to be more expensive than the Fortuner. All in all, I find this quite puzzling.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

The RAV 4 is definitely a class below the Fortuner in markets they are sold side-by-side. The price of the RAV 4 is lower too. Toyota marketing team will have to come up with innovative marketing ideas to place the RAV 4 on-par or above the Fortuner.

It will be a low volumes vehicle considering the VFM. I do not see a point to launching the RAV4 as a CBU.
