Can confirm this is not a Nepalese car and it sports “On Test By ARAI” sticker as well.

So, itseems Toyota is planning to launch this previous gen RAV4 just like the Hiace.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

Don’t know what you guys are talking about. Car spotted in India indeed is the one sold all over the globe including North America, Europe, Australia, etc. New generation of RAV4 is still under camouflaged testing.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

No doubt the RAV4 is a reliable and stellar vehicle. But knowing how Toyota prices their products, I don't think this will be attractive or exciting in terms of on road prices.

it was noted in Aug 2020, the Rav4 will arrive in India as a CBU. Launching in mid 2021.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

Zooming in the number plate, blurs the image. But I dont think this is a number plate from Nepal where for private vehicles, its red background with white digits and letters in devnagari script. There are several RAV4s here in Nepal, including Hiace and Rush, imported directly from Thailand. Due to taxes, RAV4 is around equivalent of 75lacs INR in Nepal.

Re: Toyota's future plans for India

There was news last year and in this thread itself that Toyota might launch RAV4 as a CBU in India which would cost around 60 lakh. This would make the car dead on arrival even with its hybrid kit. Wish Toyota could launch it in 20-30lakh bracket without hybrid powertrain to compete against the likes of Compass or Tucson instead of selling rebadged Suzukis. It would have done good for the market as well as their own market share. But it seems Toyota was never interested in India.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

I had 2008 RAV4 which I bought for $8900 in 2013 in the USA, with total mileage just shy of 90k miles. A good car, reliable like any other Toyota. Back then new RAV4 cost $23k for base model and top end going up to 30k. Comparing those numbers to what we are looking at in India just hurts.
This price due to duties is just insane and unfortunate considering how good it is for India. The car isn't big. It isn't small either but not 60l worth big.

I am sorry, the car on test is the current RAV-4 sold in NA, but the one sold in Nepal is still the 2014 one.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

I had bought a 2016/2017 Rav4 SE AWD with LED Headlights and all bells and whistles. Every thing was good until I test drove a monster .
Rav4's Mileage was decent, on road price was $29000 at that time, once I took a test drive of 4Runner and then I realized what is a AWD (in RAV4) and a manual 4WD body on frame SUV can do (in 4runner).

Sold RAV4 with 4000 miles on odo for a loss of $2000 to the dealer and bought a new 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium. Life was never the same afterwards

What I am trying to say here is with CBU or CKD route this will cost more or same as a Fortuner and Fortuner is more capable than a Rav4 with more seats and it does not make sense for India in CBU or CKD route.

Below is the pic of Rav4 and 4Runner I had.

Don’t see the Innova or Fortuner or other Body on Frame vehicles as competitors to the RAV4. I have test driven body on frame vehicles and hated them every single time.

However the RAV4 is a direct competitor to cars like the Tiguan and Tucson - and will be seen as inferior to the Kodiaq or Tiguan Allspace (which are a few inches longer), except for the premium for Toyota reliability and the hybrid power train. Don’t see how on earth this can be priced at ₹60 lakhs - even if it were all electric. The average RAV4 sells for about 10% more than the Camry - so even with Toyota’s obscene pricing, it could perhaps sell for ₹45 lakhs - with Camry style target volumes of 40-50 units per month.

Just saying, the Camry and Fortuner retails close to 48L on road here in Bangalore. So even at 10% premium, we are looking at 54L OTR. Knowing Toyota, 60L isn't too far for a CBU

Except that they are referring to a ₹60 L ex show room price. Which in Bombay, where we have a 20% tax on CBUs would become ₹73 L+ OTR.

Frankly, we should ignore OTR prices from cities like Bombay and Bangalore - there are other places in India which levy much lower road taxes. Comparing prices only makes sense on ex showroom which is what companies can control.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Saw a black RAV4 near my house on 25th. february. It had a typical dealer temp registration sticker. And was being driven by an elderly couple. So it might not be your typical test car. It looks like Toyota have done some sort of soft launch.
