Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

RAV4 will be Dead on arrival!
Why would anyone buy this over Creta or even Kodiaq. In USA, this is a mid level crossover/SUV and is not seen as a premium vehicle. The interiors will not justify the price tag of 60 lacs.
Of course, it is a very comfortable Vehicle and I have driven this extensively in US (as rented vehicle). Many times, i wished Toyota to launch this in India as it ticks all boxes like Space, comfort, style, brand etc... Toyota should have been more serious and tried the CKD route atleast.
I will never buy this in India for a 60 lakh price tag.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

RAV4 is CRV competitor. IMO it cannot be priced astronomically, like Lexus or Camry (latter is preferred by many top executives who wish not to buy the Germans).

Toyota should rather utilize it's idle capacity & assemble it here to keep prices in check. It can use the 2500 units clause to bring technologies like Prius or fuel cell or rather Lexus models.

It will find it difficult to exhaust the quota at Camry prices I feel.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

RAV4 is a CRV rival. If CRV is overpriced at 35 L then imagine what RAV4 is at 60L. People don't care if it's CBU or CKD. I have seen these in N.America. Not at all looks exciting. Even if it's a 7-seater, it will have to beat its brother Innova which is an established product and costs less than half. And, it certainly can't match Fortuner's road presence and macho SUV stance. Don't know who will be target audience at this price. May be 5/7-star hotels.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Having owned a RAV4 in Bahrain, I do have a soft corner towards it. It is everything that a compact SUV should be, and IMHO a much better pick than the CR-V.

Although the pricing isn't confirmed, anything on the grounds of 60 lakhs will not result in good sales, inspite of it being a solid product. Toyota India should work aggressively on that front, for a competitive pricing.

The major competitor for the RAV4 is its own younger brother, the Innova. Not sure who the RAV4's exact target audience is, but a different marketing strategy has to be in place.

Nevertheless, I am excited!

Why waste time? The Lexus NX 300h is for 69 lakhs (before discounts ).
You are absolutely right. It is OK not great. I have driven the 2 Door SWB version a few times in the desert. Does run like a rabbit on the dunes due to a good Power / Weight ratio.

But in India it will register very very poor sales if priced anything over 22 to 25 lakhs. Toyota are doing fine with their plans to launch Suzuki Vitara Brezza clone Urban Cruiser. They better stay away from this RAV 4 in India.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

In 2016 I bought a brand new Toyota Rav4 SE AWD with LED Headlights. Drove the car for 4000 miles and exchanged it for Toyota 4Runner.
I was not impressed with Rav4 and it is certainly not better than Fortuner we have here.
If it is going to be CBU I hope to justify CBU prices it comes with adaptive cruise control, lane watch assist, emergency brake assist etc.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Oh wow!
RAV4 is pretty much a compact SUV here in the US. I was thinking they would launch it around 30L in India but they astonished us all with a 60L price tag! Simply astonishing by Toyota India. I wonder how much they would price the Avalon if it’s to be launched in India? 80Lakhs maybe? 😂

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

The RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid seems to be a good option, considering 40 mile all electric range it would be a good car for India if priced right(not 60lakhs). It has a 0-100kmph time of 5.5 sec too.

For the rumoured 60L price tag, they might very well bring the Prime here. After all, it's the quickest accelerating Toyota model, just behind the Supra and ahead of the V6 Camry/Avalon/Hiace.

But looking at the limited numbers for sale in USA & Japan citing over demand or production constraints, coupled with the possibility of TKM mulling local assembly later, it would most probably be the Camry shared ordinary hybrid that would come here.

I got really excited seeing this testing in India but it looks like a RAV4 from Nepal. Plates reveal white alphanumericals on a red background which is used for private cars in Nepal.

But motorcycles next to it have white plates like regular Indian ones.

Nepal motorcycles have red plates like these -

Unless you mean it is a privately owned RAV4 from Nepal in India? That might be true since the car on test isn’t the latest RAV 4 sold in the USA.
