Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

I am one of the few people who may have a contrary opinion. I bought the car because it has the Mahindra badge. I really love the new Pirelli AMT. The first and second gear shifts are noticeable and the car sometimes streaks ahead in the second gear but - oh my god - it's a phenomenal car to drive. It's solid beyond words. I come from a Maruti Ritz and you can sneeze and brake that car. The braking is really good. You need to get used to how quickly the car comes to a half it you press hard. The car loves being driven in higher gears and the AMT makes it a breeze in the city. The front seats are really comfortable and the rear seat is works well for three people. That was my primary criterion. A comfortable bench for rear passengers and a rock solid car. I got the car on a Thursday Eve and set off from Hyderabad to Hampi on Friday morning. Got back from Hampi on Monday and first service of 1000 Kms on Tuesday. I am not a purist so don't really care about AMT Vs pure AT. It's been 12000 Kms over one year and the car experience has been an absolute joy. Not a single squeak or creak from the car. The service has been a mixed bag but they are proactive and straightforward while answering questions. I got the W6 AMT so miss out on some bells and whistles but don't care too much about it. I had to brake in an emergency once because a truck ahead braked and was rear ended by an Activa. The poor Activa guys front end had bent out of shape and my car hardly had a scratch. When something similar happened with my Ritz I spent a lot to repair my rear bumper which almost broke into two. I will end by saying the car does feel like you are driving a tank which glides in the city and growls on the highway.

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Just imagine what would have happened if Mahindra had launched the car at this price! I cannot fathom what Mahindra management was thinking. This product had several short-comings:

1) W6 and W8 versions are barebone. W8 does not even get hill start assist!
2) White interiors in W8(O)
3) Weak AC
4) Small boot
5) Mahindra badge.

Add to all these, the price was simply too high. If they had aimed for a reasonable profit margin, then customers would have ignored the shortcomings. But, they saw Creta and raised by a big margin. The result is that a nice car was relegated to a fourth/fifth position. Subsequent price cuts never work since customers become concerned with resale value of a also-ran car. Hope, Mahindra does well.

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

The reduction in price or "correction" still does not seem tempting to buy this product from Mahindra.
For eg. W6 / W6 AMT is closely priced to the newly launched Creta and Seltos.
Creta is a cult to own and Seltos is a very good product from Kia, so the XUV300 does not come close to any of these is terms of styling and driveability.
Secondly the Venue and Sonet(atleast in pictures & features experience with Kia motors) is loaded to the gills at the similar price points. The IMT and DCT offered are in a different league altogether compared to the AMT offered.

I guess the price increase will not be able to dent any of the sales of the above mentioned cars.

Seems safer to say that our market is moving from Price sensitive to Features / Quality specific.

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Too little too late. This was a fantastic product from Mahindra and had so much potential to rule its segment. But they got greedy and priced it at a disadvantage from the start. A price correction now is not going to help much as the competition has increased and bettered them with the Venue and now Sonet providing much more desirable alternatives. I think the XUV300 is going to fall to the lower rungs of this segment from a sales point of view.

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

The XUV300 petrol makes much sense to someone who has less monthly running & has safety as a priority. If I had a 2 year old toddler, I would choose the XUV over the very handsome Sonet, hands down.

If I wanted a petrol auto the obvious choice would be the EcoSport dragon. Tata have shot themselves in the foot by increasing prices & I'm glad Mahindra have been sensible to reduce the costs.

While the petrol XUV300 has always been an "uncommon" buying decision, how much sense does it make from an ex Polo GT TSI owner? Have a look at the below video, this should help those looking to buy the petrol XUV300.

The video is in Hindi & credits go to the content creator. I am in no way associated with any YouTube channel.

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Well it's definitely a good move by Mahindra to reduce the price of the XUV300, It'd still call it a correction. But I'd still call it Overpriced. There is also a difference in the features. It's a well loaded car in the W8(O) but look at the W4 and W6, they don't have much features.

When we were looking for our car in November 2019, our budget was 11.5L On Road Chennai. We wanted a diesel because we used to munch about 12k km a year (pre Covid). So the XUV300 had the best safety and better 3 seater at the back compared to the competition. It also had a good Diesel 1.5L. The Rear Thigh support and the Boot space was a real concern. And for 11.5L we could only afford the 1.5L W6 MT/AMT (No W8 as Costs around 13L OTR). At the Similar price the Hyundai Venue SX 1.4L CRDi offered more features (Driver Seat Height Adjustment, Reverse Camera, Indicators on the ORVM, Cruise Control, Sunroof, Fog Lamps, Projector Headlights, Alloy Wheels and even Android Auto/Apple CarPlay) so if Mahindra had included atleast a few in the W6 variant we would have bought it.

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Traditionally indian market has not embraced vehicles that were overpriced and then discounted due to competition.

Even after the discount, the difference between the base petrol variant W4 and the next one(W6) almost Rs 1 lac, without that much goodies.

To put this in perspective, Ecosport Trend petrol is priced almost similarly and gets more goodies( rear view camera, rear wiper). Though ecosport doesn't get the 1.2litre engine tax benefit its priced sensibly

As it is, the lacklustre ASS of mahindra doesn't inspire much confidence.

The pricing managed to bungle up a very competent car, which could have been mahindra's foray into the Maruthi/Hyundai territory

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Well, it is never too late to 'correct'. XUV300 is a car that suits numerous nuclear urban families well and the introductory pricing immediately transformed it from a potential segment topper to a mediocre product VFM wise.
A sturdy and powerful product that still has the ability to garner respectable sales, this correction couldn't have come at a better time. On the other hand, my thought goes out to those who bought it before the price cut. Any goodwill gesture (retrospective price correction of up to 2 months/ some financial package) will be immense here for brand Mahindra.
Regards

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Mahindra and TATA are 'correcting'/updating the prices of many cars/variants. Tiago has seen a price hike whereas Tigor is seeing a price cut. Am I missing something? What is happening here? Are they silently deleting/adding any feature or this is a usual price correction after taking into consideration the input costs/market.

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Good news, infact I'd dare say price cuts arent substantial enough. The W8 Opt AMT is almost 16l on road, agreed the engine is great, but hey its stil a 4M hatch on stilts, its not worth paying twice over a hatch of similar proportions, neither does is have the Snob value of its elder sibling 500 or the cretas and Seltos' mid variants it runs shoulder with...

But that engine with awesome meaty torque band is a surely FTD...

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

The W8 Petrol now has Ex.showroom of 9.9 L as against 10.6 L earlier. This price cut of 70 translates to 1.4 Lakh reduction in on-road prices in Bengaluru.
The pricing of petrol variants has a more even spread now. W8 which has a good set of features over W6 drops below 10 L.

For reference among petrols, Venue SX - 9.79 L, Ecosport Titanium - 9.76, Nexon XZ+ - 9.64, Brezza ZXI+ - 9.75.
W8 pricing is in the same ballpark as its competitors. A welcome move

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Price reduction for W8, W8 Optional diesel, and all petrol versions, but W4, W6, and W6 AMT diesel price increased by 20k.

I had booked xuv300 W6 AMT, the price at the time of booking was 9.99. 2 days later got a call from the dealer stating that the price of W6 AMT diesel increased by 20k, making it to cross 10 lakh mark and increase of around 40k in Road tax :(

Re: Mahindra XUV300 prices cut by up to Rs. 87,129

Dear all,

I am in a serious confusion about buying my first car. Though I have never owned a car before I had my fair share of driving experience in almost all segments (except the 4WD SUVs) .

Here are my usage criteria:
- Monthly max 900 kms of travel
- Just two in family as of now and a small puppy.
- I am an enthusiast driver and I look for a balance of good engine performance and refinement.
- I am have a hide personality and hence have ruled out Venue, Sonet and similar cars because of space crunch behind me when I am in the driver seat.
- Occassionally there will be 3 people sitting in the second row.
- Not more than 11.2 lakhs

Here are the vehicles I short-listed:
- Mahindra XUV300 W8 Petrol
- Hyundai Creta EX Petrol
- Skoda Rapid Ambition
- Skoda Rapid Ambition(AT)
- New Maruti S-Cross Petrol( yet to test drive)

As you can see I have put XUV300 on top of my list. XUV 300 and Rapid/Vento are the ones the liked the most with respect to performance and handling. Rapid and Vento went to thrid position only becuase of the rear seating and huge center tunnel. Hyundai Creta and S-Cross I feel are more practical with respect to space and re-sale value.

The only reason I am confused about XUV 300 is, reliability. I am not sure about how reliable the vehicle would be for the next 10 years(worst case). I am seeing quite a few people complaining on some of the websites like carwale and cardekho about some of the core features of the car failing after an year on XUV300. Would appreciate if folks here could help me provide more info on this. That will make my life easier to decide on the car options I have.

If space is a main criteria, Honda Jazz / WRV can be looked into. Negligible central hump, oodles of space.

Since you mentioned a puppy (which will grow quickly) Ertiga, Creta and S cross make sense

The last row(ertiga)/bigger boot (s cross/creta) can be reserved for your pet.

Mods, see if this thread can be merged with the main XUV300 thread (the review thread), don't see much activity in either of these two threads..
