I guess Hyundai/ Kia are still searching for their respective identities . You can create definitions of the Identities of various brands, but can you confidently nail down strong ,positive and distinct attributes to Hyundai/ Kia car brands?
No matter how poor the reliability of Landrover models, the brand identity is still stronger than a Pallisade or Telluride or whatever name they carve out of the periodic table. An E/ S class or 5 series is stronger than a Genesis. Legacy is also a big factor, but Hyundai has been around for a long time now, and despite the declining financial fortunes of other more ‘halo’ brands, H/ K still have some ways to go.

Just within India, a City has a better brand identity than a Verna, a Swift has better identity than a Grand I10. The Dzire has much stronger identity than the Xcent or Aura . Only the Creta has uniquely created an identity in the compact crossover segment.

Booked an Imperial Blue Diesel Auto in the HTK+ trim on-line. The process was pretty painless. 25K Booking amount is fully refundable. There is an upfront charge of Rs. 250 if booking using credit card etc. The website lets you choose the trim and color but I guess you may have a chance to change this directly with the dealer once prices are announced.

I hope the HTK+ Diesel auto will be priced just under 10 lakhs. If so, it would be very good value and will plan to go ahead with the booking, and if not, plan to cancel it. I also have an eye on the Thar LX Diesel Auto Hardtop and should be able to check its pricing on October 2nd prior to taking delivery of the Sonet. Willing to stretch a good bit more for that! I know they are not comparable vehicles other than both being Diesel Autos! I guess this is the kind of cross-shopping many buyers do today

Creta and Seltos were launched with the base Diesel manual at 9.99 lakhs and so I hope with a smaller vehicle enjoying excise benefits from the sub-4m category Kia will be able to offer an attractive launch price under 10 lakhs for the Diesel AT HTK+.

I am also in the same boat as you. Looking ahead for HTK+ Diesel AT to be priced around 10L.
We need a sub 4 meter AT car. I am cross shopping between Hatchbacks and Compact SUV's.

My short list is
Sonet Diesel AT
Polo GT TSI AT
Figo 1.2L AT
Least preferred option is
Brezza AT

If Mahindra adds that Aisin gearbox to XUV300, that will be on top of my list.

No AMT's, CVTs and DCT's for me.

Re: A Close Look : Kia Sonet

Just checked on the Sonet website and found out that the 392 L boot space quoted is till the Roof. So the space below the parcel shelf is not 392 L, it should be less than that.
Below is the Graphic from the Kia website showing the same.

Also the Virtual Showroom links for the Sonet are now enabled and you can get full VR experience of both the interior and exterior on the Kia website.

https://www.kia.com/in/vr/showroom/i...ml#qyiexterior

Just for fun, I tried blacking out the C-Pillar to see how it would look (like other cars like the Range Rover Evoque) and this is what I came up with. (Pardon the Novice Paint3d job! Over to the experts for a better recreation!)
To me, it looks much better like this and it eliminates the C-Pillar quirkiness.

And here is the original brochure (from the company website) for the Sonet.

I've been thinking this is the way it's calculated always under what they call the VDA method. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I have to completely change my shortlist otherwise.

Both this GC number and the 392L boot (which is confirmed in the official brochure/ ads) are .
392L is massive and the best in the segment!

Where are they squeezing this from? Hope not the second row, 'cos going by the Venue, there isn't much to squeeze.

Not sure about the other manufactures, but Kia has mentioned that it is via VDA method. Would be interesting to know how the others do it.

I couldn’t find the mention of GC to be 211 mm anywhere, either on the brochure or the website. Am I missing something here?

Re: A Close Look : Kia Sonet

Got the Full size official Brochure from Kia.

Booked the GTX+ DCT this morning in Mumbai. Dealer claimed pricing details for variants will be out by the 25th of this month. They will receive demo and test drive cars by 1st week of September.

I've tried attaching the brochure, but I'm not sure it will show up.
If the mods want, I can send it to them to post here

Kia should have looked elsewhere for inspiration.
Actually the rear lights are inspired from it's own Bada Bhai Kia Sportage.

There is actually no official mention of the Sonet's ground clearance anywhere on the brochure or on the website. I think this speculation of 211mm ground clearance of the Kia Sonet is based on a leaked specs image published on Rushlane a few days back.

A Close Look : Kia Sonet-kiasonetdimensionsvariantsspecsleak1068x569.jpg

It is not clear whether this is an official specs sheet, but as per this data the ground clearance is mentioned as 211mm. I think this data maybe correct, as all the other values given in this sheet are spot on as per the brochure.

Re: A Close Look : Kia Sonet

For those who are wondering about the actual ground clearance of the car, please see the attached video (skip to 8:35). The reportedly leaked training manual in the video advices the ground clearance to be 205 mm, which is still very good.

Until this gets announced officially by Kia, should take it with a pinch of salt though.
