How Long, Long Ago did you Re-Fuel?

COVID-19 has definetely hit the fuel consumption across the country due to lockdowns and in general reduction in normal activity. I had the chance today to review my own situation where I checked when was the last time that I re-fueled my cars and was shocked to see that it was 147 days ago That means that I am almost touching 5 months with a tank of diesel on my Honda City. Work from home being the norm and Schools shut for the kids and Red Zones all around I have been staying indoors but for the essential trips for groceries and medicines on need basis.

Also interesting to note how the prices have increased: At the time of last re-fuel Diesel was at Rs.66.89 and today the price in Bangalore is at Rs.77.59 which is a whopping 16% increase.

As can be seen from the picture the Fuel Level is at approximately the half way mark and I am sure I will be able to cross the half a year mark easily with the fuel left in the tank before I refuel again.

Quickly checked the data for my other car - the Ignis, and that is at 120 days since last re-fuel.

On the Petrol front the price in Bangalore today is at Rs.83.04 and I think I had paid Rs.84.65 during the last re-fuel, however, at a Shell Petrol Pump where the price is on the higher side.

Note: All data was maintained using the Fuelio App for Android and I always do a tankful fill up.

I had refuelled on 12th March.

I was still on half tank when I visited Noida last weekeend. And because there is a difference of almost Rs 8 / L in the diesel prices vis-a-vis Delhi (post the Covid taxes), I got a tankful done from Noida. Otherwise, the March tankful would have lasted another 2 months

I last refueled 170 days ago, and that the fuel indicator is not even at 3/4th mark yet!

Creta - Being used daily for about 20-25 kms per day so refuelling shall happen around every month. The current tank was filled up on the 13th July - expect this tank to run till 10th of August most likely.

Ertiga - Last fuelled I think sometime in mid-June. That tank is yet to finish

Ours was on March 18th and still we have got half tank to spare. The good thing about the lockdown is that we never bothered about the fuel prices.

Even my Pulsar NS200 was filled on April 10 and now it has got 80% of the fuel in it. The only thing that is drinking petrol in our house is the Activa which is used for all errands and movements.

In the Nexon - I did a tank-full of diesel on 10th March 2020. The tank is still more than half full. I suspect a lot has simply evaporated!

In the Alto I had filled up sometime around January 2020. Did a small 500 Rs. fill last week for some hospital runs. The bike & wife's Wego have run dry. Petrol evaporated away. We aren't using the 2 wheelers currently. I feel the roads are too unsafe right now to ride bikes. Morons using roads as race-tracks are simply too many.

I last refueled Yaris on 29/2 around 144 days ago and fuel indicator is still above half way mark.

I feuelled last on Vento on 14th Mar, and it is still at half, i took it out for one long drive of about 150 kms that added to some fuel spent. Rest has been normal run for groceries.

Last refuel for Ninja was on 19th June when it was taken for a bit of a long ride.

I couldn't refuel before the March 25 lockdown. Car hardly had any fuel in it. And it is still that way.

Since my business is exempted from lockdown, I have been using both my vehicles viz; Hexa and Jetta on a daily basis. Both cars have a daily running of around 40 kms since the lockdown started in March.

So I have been filling diesel just like I used to before the lockdown kicked in I.e. once every 15 days. Infact I filled Jetta's tank yesterday only and will do the same for the Hexa in the next couple of days.

Though we are at home, our cars need some running. Whenever you get chance, make sure to take car for long run, at least 15-20 Kms once in a month. I made sure that i went on highway nearby (without breaking any lock down or any rules, in allowed hours) and had good run (20-30 kms) for car couple of times in last 4 months. Also using my car for going to nearby places every week 2-3 times. If your car is not in use, can create few issues. From my previous experience, it can really create some unknown issues as well.

I got a tankful of diesel on March 20. It was 75% full when I set out from Hyderabad to Bangalore on May 14. This was the longest the car stayed with a single tankful of fuel ~ 55 days. I could have made it with the remaining fuel but I wasn't sure of the waiting time at various Covid checkposts. Got another tankful on the way after crossing Anantapur.

Between May 14 and July 22, I have got two more tankfuls. Currently the fuel gauge is at 100% mark and the DTE shows 895 kms even after covering 150+ kms since tankful.

Me and my wife are doctors, so both our cars are running everyday unless we are in quarantine. Monthly running and refueling frequency has come down significantly. I was using almost two tankfuls of diesel every month, now one tankful is mostly enough.
