Got my car delivered and used it for 10-14 days on the temporary number.

The car was delivered with the temporary number sticker/paper pasted on a plastic number plate type board. Later when I got the permanent number the dealer took back the temporary plate and permanently fixed the HSRP plates.

Only when I stumbled on this thread did I realize that the importance of the board. But to be honest I even have seen cars driven with their permanent number as stickers. Especially on the front bumper.

Not true. Temporary registration is required only for the owner to drive the car. The MV Act states that the dealer cannot deliver the car with registration (Temporary or Permanent). Ideally the car needs to have a Permanent Registration on the day of delivery. If the owner resides in a place that too far to make multiple trips between the dealership and the RTO (either in the same state for large states or another state) a temporary number is alloted and the owner is allowed to drive the car to his RTO and get the permanent registration done.

This is mostly put for test drive cars. Example DL 01 TC 100. This needs to have white letters on a red background.

This is not a Temporary registration but a trade plate (Red Plate with White Numbers). Each dealer is alloted a few of these which he can swap between vehicles for driving them between the showroom and workshop or between multiple outlets of the same dealer. Many dealers misuse this to run their TD cars. Temporary registration is a Yellow Plate with Red Numbers.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I think i was over thinking! Temporary registration has been completed and the dealer will be delivering the Temporary number plate in couple hours so we are good .

Can one drive around in a new car, with just “REGD.” Sticker on the front and back, with original Road Tax paid invoices?

What about if one wants to drive out of state?

What’s the best alternative to travel out of state in a new car, without the HSRP number plates?

If you have gotten the information about the number that is allotted to you, just get a simple White plate made with the numbers stickered on it. And carry your payment receipts ( your RC may also be available in some form on Digi Locker so have that available)
