Rumour: Audi Q2 India launch in September 2020

According to a media report, Audi is planning to launch the Q2 SUV in India sometime in September this year.

Rumour: Audi Q2 India launch in September 2020-20200710051514_audiq2frontorange.jpg

Internationally, the Audi Q2 is positioned below the Q3 in Audi's line-up. The SUV is based on the MQB platform and measures 4,191 mm in length, 1,794 mm in width, 1,508 mm in height and its wheelbase is 2,601 mm.

Just like other SUVs in Audi's range, the Q2 also gets a single-frame grille. C-pillars painted in a contrasting shade add to its funky styling. On the inside, the car gets a floating touchscreen infotainment head-unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Reports suggest that the Q2 will be offered in five trim levels. The SUV is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 187 BHP and 320 Nm. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive system.

If Audi prices it sensibly around the Karoq price range then they have a winner at hand.

If Audi would price Q2 around the Karoq, then who would buy the Karoq?

Audi has been positioned as a premium brand by VAG. It would be contradicted if they price it on par with the Skoda.

I guess sister brand cannibalisation is better than losing out to rivals, that’s why?

Plus, Q2 is actually quite tiny for a crossover to flaunt any sort or SUV credentials.

There's a good chance, that if they get the Q2, it'll be available in the price range of 26-27 till 31 lakhs.

The exact dimensions of Q2 are that of the TRoc. You'll get better materials inside and some more features than the TRoc. But I dont think it'll work. The Q2 looks worse off IMHO.

I don't think Audi has any other option. The Q2 needs to be priced around Karoq if they want to sell cars in India. They shouldn't start off with a unrealistic price point then follow up with massive discounts.

The present automotive scenario has made it clear that people LOVE compact SUV's.

Moreover their current line up of A6,A8 and Q8 is hardly finding any buyers thanks to their "pledge" of selling all petrol cars in India for the immediate future.

Well Autocar India thinks it will be priced between 35-48 lacs for different variants.

If what they say is what Audi are thinking then God help them. If they do them just think how the Q3 will be priced.

I really doubt that Q2 will be priced around Karoq since Q2 will be powered by a 2 L turbo charged engine compared to 1.5 L in Karoq. Additionally, Audi always commands a premium over VW/Skoda products. Expect the starting price to be around 30-31 Lakhs.

Truly said, even if they price it cheap as per Audi standards it'll still be closer to the old Tiguan around 29-30 lacs to start with instead of touching the Karoq's 25 lacs price. The old Q3 was starting from around 35 lacs I think, and as per the latest common trends the new model will have an increased price increased of 1-1.5 lacs. So the Q2 will have gaps to fill at less than 35 lacs.

And if the Karoq comes with a 2 litre engine even that will have a price premium of around 2-2.5 lacs. Even though its a bigger car, the bigger audi brand will still be priced more than the Skoda. An A6 is more closer to Superb in terms of size but even the smaller A4 is priced much more than the Superb.

However, internationally starting price of Q2 is less than the starting price of T-Roc. But the top of the line Q2 is quite expensive than the T-Roc. If we compare it with T-Roc price and they price it at a premium of 6-7 lacs and it can come out to around 30 OTR, then it should be quite a success for them.

Someone from the Audi dealership said it’s going to start at over 40L. When I asked why he said it’s because it’s a CBU.

But Karoq is larger than the Q2 in dimensions and is a CBU thats why has a higher price so Audi can price it in a similar price band.

Re: Rumour: Audi Q2 India launch in September 2020

The Q2 is dimensionally smaller than the T-roc except for the wheelbase which is larger by 11mm.
Considering the badge premium and higher engine specs the entry level base trim should start at or slightly higher than the karoq level.
Adding 20-25% to the ex-showroom price the entry level model should be available at an on road price of 30-32 lacs.

Re: Rumour: Audi Q2 India launch in September 2020

Holy smokes! Did everyone just ignore the fact of what a power house this car will be? It stands at a kerb weight of just 1205 kg! That's a whole 200 kgs lighter than the Octavia 1.8 TSI. Considering it makes 10 more hp and a whole 70 Nm torque more than the Octavia 1.8 TSI and also has the 7 speed DSG. This beast will fly! Real world 0-100 figure stands at 6.7 sec (Audi claims 6.5 secs) making it as fast as a VRS and that too with Quattro AWD!

The best part is that it will be a substantially cheaper alternative in the luxury segment to the BMW 330i for the average petrol head. Also , pretty sure this is the DQ380 wet type DSG making it more reliable. Considering you get the same engine as the VRS, the modding potential is insane!! Damn am I waiting to get my hands on it. Dear Audi, please price it right.

Re: Rumour: Audi Q2 India launch in September 2020

Pretty sure that audi is going to launch this with the 1.5L tsi, the current trend points in that direction. The price will be insane and as usual they'll be offering discounts, some things never change.

Re: Rumour: Audi Q2 India launch in September 2020

Considering the fact that they launched the A4 with the puny 1.4 TSI, it is quite improbable that Audi will launch the Q2 with the 2.0 TSI engine in India. 1.5 TSI seems more likely. Given their recent obsession with downsizing, I won't be surprised even if they launch it with the 1.0 TSI.
