Re: The "oldest" new cars on sale in India

The veterans include Mahindra's Bolero (2001) and the Mahindra Scorpio (2003). These have become senior citizens (are they more prone to the Corona virus attack ? ) among the whole motley group of new oldies on sale, but still continue to be the bread and butter, to sustain and nurture Mahindra's Rise !

From what I've heard Honda is going to be selling both generations of the City together, so the 5th gen will have a slightly longer run.

I think the VW Polo/Vento takes the case. They don't feel outdated in 2020 as Germen design and engineering is far superior to the Japanese and Korean counterparts.

Credits to VW for continuously give the Polo engine and transmission upgrades. The 1.5 diesel is class leading even after so many years.

Actually 13 years in production, but close enough.

Is it called India's second car because of the Mercedes origin of Sierra, Safari and Sumo?

It appears as though Tata ventured out of the utility segment while having 3 passenger UVs at their disposal, Mahindra held onto the only segment they knew at that time and continued to do so, perhaps the market would have been overrun by Japanese manufacturers of these two had failed.

Nevertheless, Indica as well as Scorpio are significant milestones for indian automobile industry.

If this thread refers to cars not having their platforms changed from the fundamental level, then the Wagon R won't be eligible for this thread, since it got a full platform change in 2019.

Launched way back in 2010, Eeco has remained same, except for engine. It came with 1.3L mill during launch as I recall, now comes with a G12 engine. Recently got BS6 makeover.
By the way, the news article still shows the Eeco as being powered by a K12 engine. Could this be changed?

Another car I'd like to add here is Xylo. Probably launched in 2008 or 2009 and hasn't really got any significant makeover. Basically the same car is on sale for more than 10 years now so basically older than Polo. Also the Ciaz has been on sale for nearly 7 years now and with no new facelift on the horizon it could well be another car in that list. Although it doesn't look outdated to be honest.

What about Honda City? It was introduced in 1997, 23 years and several generations later it still is the first choice for many people in the buyer! Though the last 3 years Honda kinda screwed up but I so wish that they actually catch up and do a good job with the pricing of 6th Gen City.

I guess the definition is a little vague but what counts as a continually-in-production "car" is not the name of the car but if the basic car (chassis) has been used for a long time, maybe tweaked.

For example I wouldn't count the Swift, Figo, WagonR etc because they're ground-up replacements for their previous versions, not the same car at all.

Whereas something like the Polo or Bolero, it is not a new car when they do a facelift, it is more like design tweaks here and there.

Posting a Mahindra is cheating but:

I don't think there is an older car and I do mean a unibody car, than this thing.

I think the Lamborghini Aventador is up there with the Polo in terms of age. It has been on sale in India since 2011, and although it is nearing end of production, you can still order a current model year SVJ Roadster through Lamborghini India.

4 years and a global-pandemic later, these vehicles still rule the sales-chart

I guess petro heads trust the Bolero and Scorpio as much as a Jopasu duster (these never go out of fashion, even when you buy a Lamborghini as your main ride )

I would say the Ignis is in this list. The model is basically unchanged since 2017 ( apart from some cosmetic grill and the addition of ESP).
