due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
That’s a new low from the segment leader. I don’t think this is entirely due to virus crisis as showrooms were open until 22nd and so were the factory dispatches unless MB stopped dispatches much before.

Overall this segment performed last year due to some exceptional offers on Euro 4 models more than anything else.

I have a feeling that BMW would have done better as they had a lot of Euro 4 stocks in this period which they sold at low rates.

Just tweaked the title a bit. Let's keep this thread to discuss the 2020 sales of all luxury car brands.

Considering the current pandemic & its aftermath, I doubt Mercedes will touch 10,000 cars this year. IMHO, people have realised the value of a liquid safety cushion and no one is going to be spending 50 lakhs on a car anytime soon.

Audi this year will be a niche player - it currently has merely 3 expensive cars on sale - link (Audi India discontinues all models except A6, A8L & Q8). Even after the market opens, Audi won't have a diesel in its line-up . Luxury car owners love diesels!

Mercedes Benz registers a negative 39% YoY de-growth in Q1 2020, the lowest Q1 sales in the past 7 years!

The ongoing slowdown in the Indian market was aggravated even further with the Covid19 outbreak. Similar to other OEMs; even Mercedes Benz had to to shut down its plant post 23 March when the lockdown was announced and the business went dry almost in the last 10 days of Mar’20. The drop in volumes in Q1 is going to be followed with a even steeper decline in Q2 as entire Apr’20 is bound to be washed away by the continued lockdown.

Love the way you describe it as "niche". I'd call it "forgettable". Or the many choicest of words that will remove me from TBHP.

Any update on the exact number of units sold by Audi in Q1 2020. It would be interesting to see the exact comparison against their competitors.

Re: Mercedes, BMW, Audi & other luxury brand sales in 2020

So what we got to know from q1 sales is people in India like the oversized grille of BMW as much as they like the stylish Merc. JLR might dethrone Audi who are busy drawing lines and sticking to stone age design. Lexus will have some competition now.

Re: Mercedes, BMW, Audi & other luxury brand sales in 2020

So my estimate was correct

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post4788616 (Mercedes, BMW & Audi sales figures in India)

BMW was carrying a large inventories of both 4 and 6 cylinder euro 4 diesels. They were running huge rebates, 320-D with 10-12 lac, X5 at 15 lac off and 7 with over 25 lac.

Even Mini which normally is not discounted like BMW, was having exceptional offers. X7 is the only product that was sold at full price and still carries a waiting list.

Audi Sold out most of their diesels in 2019 and had only few units. They can be as low as 500. Whereas I except better numbers from JLR and they should be the third in this qtr.

Going forward, I won’t be surprised if this segment sees over 30% de-growth.

Don't know if they will share. When the numbers are small, companies don't talk about them.

Jaguar-Land Rover has already overtaken Audi - link (Jaguar-Land Rover overtakes Audi as No. 3 in India's luxury market).

Mercedes-Benz sells 2,948 units in H1-2020

Mercedes-Benz sold 2,948 cars in the first half of 2020.

Mercedes, BMW, Audi & other luxury brand sales in 2020-all-new-mercedesbenz-gls.jpg

According to the carmaker, SUVs accounted for 57% of the total vehicles sold during this period. Out of the total vehicles sold in the month of June, 22% were GLS SUVs. The demand for the C-Class, E-Class and GLC was also strong.

Mercedes claims that more than 8,000 leads were generated through online sales platforms in the second quarter of this year.

The carmaker expects sales to pick up in the second half of the year with the availability of BS6 volume products and because of forthcoming launches of volume models.

Re: Mercedes-Benz sells 2,948 units in H1-2020

That's more like a quarter number in the past. Contrary to their expectations, I won't be surprised if they end up at 50--60% of last year numbers. Pune itself is under lockdown and now Bangalore. Other cities will also follow. A lot of businesses & jobs have vanished entirely. They will get hurt most on the high volume smaller cars. Ultra Premium AMG will be in a better position.

There is something wrong with Audi sales number for July 2019. They sold around 5000 cars in 2019 and 2174 cars just in July 2019 is not possible.
