Re: Govt. could allow carmakers to resume production

Seriously, who's buying these cars? I imagine the dealers already have full stockyards.

Re: Govt. could allow carmakers to resume production

I imagine the main reason the government was pushing for these factories to restart manufacturing is jobs and then the multiplier effect of that salary being paid. A factory doesn't just employ the few people there. Ancillary producers need to manufacture and those products need transport to the plant. Employees working encourages the various small businesses close to the factory, like for example the food/cigarette/soft drink shops. At the end of the day, saving people with the quarantine is worthless if they don't have jobs and risk starving to death. In fact I feel they should encourage any and every business to reopen if at all possible. There is a saying "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for life". Jobs and the economy are teaching a man to fish, while the quarantine is giving a man a fish

Hyundai builds 200 cars on first production day post lockdown

Hyundai resumed production at its manufacturing plant near Chennai on May 8, 2020. On the first day of production post lockdown, the carmaker built 200 cars.

Govt. could allow carmakers to resume production-photo-2-hmil-production-restart.jpg.jpeg

Earlier this month, Hyundai had reopened its Chennai facility in preparation for restarting production. The factory was shutdown on March 22, after the government announced a countrywide lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19.

In April 2020, the government decided to relax lockdown measures in certain parts of the country to promote the resumption of economic activities. Following this announcement, automakers are slowly restarting their factories. Dealerships have also started resuming operations.

Re: Govt. could allow carmakers to resume production

Is it alright to be apprehensive of the quality of these cars, given that the plants are working on less than ideal workforce?

I would be extremely surprised if that happens, with all the automation and assembly lines in place.
Quantity may suffer, but not the quality.

On a lighter note, hope there aren't lesser screws in the cars to hold them together now. Only workers 1, 2 & 4 are working and fixing their screws while workers 3 & 5 aren't working, so no screws from their station.

Honda has resumed operations at its Tapukara plant, located in Rajasthan, with a limited workforce.

Rajesh Goel, Sr, Vice President & Director, Sales & Marketing at Honda Cars India talking about the new City, "We do not intend to delay the launch, but as we start up the ramp-up is going to be slower and we can't start at peak level, so that is going to have some significant impact. But if I can use the word, it is almost around the corner and once we can freeze the date, we will announce it to everybody."
