Re: Covid-19: Mahindra Group to start manufacturing ventilators, offer their resorts for patient car

Meanwhile, Elon Musk is giving away some extra ventilators. Another tweet said: “China had an oversupply, so we bought 1255 FDA-approved ResMed, Philips & Medtronic ventilators on Friday night and airshipped them to LA. If you want a free ventilator installed, please let us know!”

Re: Covid-19: Mahindra Group to start manufacturing ventilators, offer their resorts for patient car

There was news that one firm in Pune is making a new ventillator that will cost 50,000. Given that there are already Indian companies making ventillators and exporting them that cost 1,50,000, shouldn't that be ramped up ? The govt is buying them and they will buy different priced products. Its our money and they are not buying in millions.

Doing some new design is good, but I haven't heard about anyone actually producing them and being used although its been talked about for weeks.

Our rich people instead of donating to some new funds being setup, should follow Mr Musk and buy in bulk from China. You are still buying from Philips, Siemens in China with good quality.

ICMR says we will get new test kits developed indigenously in 2 months :( Why are we behind re-inventing the wheel ?

Not criticizing but I was expecting something better from Mahindra. Looks like device is inspired from Opensource design which can 3D printed.

Anyways in this time we need whatever is available and manufactured quickly. Any effort by anybody is appreciated.

Also Makers club requesting to print 3D print face shield holders, mask holders and ship them to New York.

Unfortunately my 3D printer dismantled and packed in check-in baggage, waiting to fly to India. . I am ready to fly in next hour when the sky is opened for flights.

PGIMER doctor accuses Mahindra of stealing his low-cost ventilator design - Link
Quote:
NEW DELHI: A PGIMER Chandigarh professor has accused business house Mahindra and Mahindra of stealing his idea of a low-cost ventilator. Rajeev Chauhan, assistant professor, at PGI has been working on the ventilator design for the last one year with experts from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The Mahindra group has denied this allegation.

“We had started work on this device which would act as an automatic respiratory device and could be a low cost solution in cases where hospitals or medical establishments cannot afford ventilators,” Chauhan said adding that he had sent legal notice to the firm.

He added that he had uploaded details of the prototype in January this year and patent clearances came in March. In the meantime, with the spread of the pandemic, the group began talks with Mahindra for large-scale production. Chauhan said that representatives from the business house took details of his invention and 48 hours later introduced the ambu bag as their own product.

When contacted Mahindra spokesperson denied this saying that they had in fact developed their product following open source designs from a variety of sources. In a statement the company said, “We would like to confirm, categorically, that Mahindra has no intention to make any profit from the manufacture of respirators and we have no intention of continuing to make them after the end of this pandemic, as this is completely unconnected to our mainstream businesses. In addition, as soon as our design in approved, we will make our design ‘Open Source’ which means any individual, institute or company can start making them in the future as a for-profit business, should they so desire."

The statement also said, "Which is why it’s so unfortunate that allegations of IP violation are being made in this context. Particularly since we have only used information in the public domain and our own capabilities and skills in designing our respirator prototype.”

Re: Covid-19: Mahindra Group to start manufacturing ventilators, offer their resorts for patient car

Mahindra in collaboration with Skanray (leading & well known ventilator company based out from mysore) manufactured ventilators are out for testing. Apparently this model can be very easily mass produced. Dont miss the “Jeep/Thar” touch

PS: This is much different than the mechanical ambu-bag compressors as seen in the previous posts.

Ventilators are very complex and sophisticated pieces of equipment. They are very sensitive and finely calibrated involving a lot of pressure and flow sensors mainly working on the gases like Oxygen and compressed Air.

All automotive companies in India were only probably talking about mechanical compression bags / pumps which could not have helped many patients.

All serious / sick patients require these high end ventilators which cannot be managed by these automated pumps.

These equipment should be able to sense the patients breathing pattern, respiratory rates and should be capable of stepping up/down rates, flows , pressures etc. Only the reputed medical companies would have the necessary infrastructure to manufacture these equipment as they would have evolved over a period of time - many years for the final product to stabilize.

The Indian manufactured ventilators may be good only for the patients whose lungs are good and require any elective surgeries wherein the time duration ranges for a maximum of 3-4 hours.

For the Covid kind of cases , these may not suffice the need at all !
