Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

A year back, I would have voted a firm "NO", since these guys have been given enough time. However, given the general recessionary environment the Automobile Industry has been facing plus the certain recession going to be caused by the Corona spread, I feel we should make an exemption in the interest of the larger economy and job safety.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

1. Yes, to the sale of existing BS-4 stock for a fixed period.
2. No new production of vehicles or components for BS-4 should be allowed.
3. No additional relaxation after the current extension.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

Agreed with BHPians. I normally never agree with such extension requests, especially when the deadline was announced well in advance. However, this coronavirus pandemic has created an extraordinary situation, the likes of which we have never seen in our lifetimes. Retail spending has completely stopped & it's a bloodbath in the auto industry. Keeping this in mind, an extension of 2 months on the "sale" (NOT production) is fair.

Cars lying at dealerships are not the manufacturer's headache. They are billed to the dealer the minute they leave the factory door.

I can confirm this as a fact. Just yesterday, I was coordinating with a manufacturer for a press car and they informed me of a delay as some RTOs are shutting down.

Not really. Manufacturers cannot pass off any & every cost to the customer. Case in point = GM & Ford ran losses for almost 2 decades, but you'd never know it from their reasonable car prices.

I don't know what type of inventory manufacturers still have. Having sold my Baleno CVT, I am looking for a decent automatic SUV. Nexon,XUV300,Creta BS4 seems to have sold out and no dealers in Chennai have stock. This even when I tell them I can do immediate payment (don't belive in auto loans so have been saving up for past 2 years)

Adding to this, no one seems interested- the moment I mention BS4, I am passed on to rookie sales guy and sales managers don't even want to discuss.

Sorry for back to back edits. Saw this thread and advice by GTO:

This got me thinking about subscription programs like zoomcar Zap.
OT: can existing uses of ZAP comment about the program please.

New Production should not be allowed after 31/March at any cost. Existing inventory can be allowed to sold.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

I believe all this is a bogey. Nobody seems to have any BS4 stock left. I’ve been scouting for good deals for the past month. The moment you mention BS4 or 2019 model, all interest magically disappears.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

Votes "Yes", provided, there should not be any new production of BS4 models or factory despatches, but BS4 cars should be allowed to register. Dealer stock clearance, I'll say.

For component suppliers, the remaining stock can be labelled as "spare parts", so not much damage will be there.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

While most of the comments are in favour of "Yes", the actual poll results are quite close.

I voted for "yes".

People who voted for "no" don't seem to understand how bad this is for dealers. At times like these the authorities should do as much as they can to ensure sustainability of businesses.

A month or two of extension won't have a huge impact in the long run. Environmentally speaking. The BS4 inventory is small as a whole yet still substantial for the average dealer.

I voted for "Yes".

Keeping in mind the current situation, deadline should be extended. But, the manufactures should not be allowed to produce any BS IV vehicles.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

I think people are confusing FADA with SIAM. The request is by the Dealers association on behalf of dealer who still might have lots of unsold inventory due to
1) general slowness in the economy for the past year.
2) Waiting to buy BS VI vehicles.
3) This sudden uncertainty with COVID-19. This effect is real. please talk to dealers to understand this issue. They were all hoping to sell off residual inventory even offering some discounts and taking a hit. The sales have reduced to an extent where it's better to close shops and save electricity expenses.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

As long as manufacturing stops on 31st there is no real issue. I always felt dealers should be allowed to sell BS4 cars as long as stocks exist. Why restrict the time frames if no further vehicles are added to the stock? Obviously they will have to sell at discounts and stock will clear out. If the intention behind the shift to BS6 was for environmental reasons then surely clearing some pending stock will not drastically alter any of those requirements. Corona Virus or not this should have always been a simple case of clear stock any which way you want as long as no further BS4 cars enter the stock.

I really agree & support this extension in these unprecedented times.

Its the least the Government could do to aid the Indian Auto Ind.

Can't understand why people would disagree.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

I voted for 'Yes' considering this extension is requested at the dealer level.

I would highly recommend the extension PROVIDED manufacturers too don't extend BS4 productions post March 31st 2020 (doubt they will do it till that time either).

Maybe RTO level checks on VIN can be enforced so that only vehicles produced till March are registered.

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

Unfortunately, this Covid-19 pandemic is being used as an excuse to extend the deadline. Corona or not, manufacturers should have planned exhausting BS4 by Feb/Mid March.

I am curious if the poll result here will have an influence on the decision on deadline extension!

Re: FADA wants to sell BS4 cars till 31st May, 2020

Voted no. Don't see why this particular group in a particular industry should be given leeway. The entire country and world is in crisis, and agreeing to this without a concerted strategy will open a Pandora's box.

They had 4 years and cannot complain about a sudden impact less than 2 weeks before the deadline. I am sorry, but we have this tendency of ignoring the compliant majority but rewarding the non-compliant minority with waivers and exemptions.

I hope SC throws this out like they did with the AGR plea today.
