Re: Is this the Tata Nexon DCT?

Nexon on hilltop with rocky terrain indicates AWD variant launch to me. If that's true, we would possibly have cheapest AWD crossover in the market.

I couldn't find any issues with Nexon mechanically or comfort wise, only the back isn't to my taste.
If I'm not mistaken, Tata has access to DCT tech from Hyundai. Not sure if it'll be used in the Nexon though.

I think the teaser was a red herring, and people took off with discussions on DCT etc. I too feel AWD is the new kid on the block especially going by the background image of the teaser. Also look at the timing, when two big SUVs(in the real sense) with off-road capabilities are around the corner. The Nexon with a teeny weeny bit of those capabilities if not in the entire sense tries to make a dent in the market! Good move Tata!

No Tata has no access to Hyundai DCT, they have Hyundai’s TC. Tata is using Punch powertrain’s DCT for Nexon and Altroz.

Any source for this information? So far Tata has used Hyundai's OLD torque converter in the Harrier. I don't think Hyundai-KIA will give away their mastered DCT to a fierce competitor like the Nexon in the sub4M segment.

Till now all the information available in public domain points to the Tata DCT being sourced from Punch PowerGlide.

This article is the one I referred to, even though it's conjecture.

Re: Is this the Tata Nexon DCT?

I don't see why TATA will launch an AWD variant for the nexon, especially when they have no plans for launching one with the harrier.

IMO it's most likely the DCT launch or just another of the special editions, KRAZ, WIZZ etc...

Not sure it's and OLD transmission, iirc the Tucson uses this very 6sp automatic too.

I think the Tucson previous generation used the unit currently in the Harrier. Latest gen has a newer one AFAIK. Regardless - no problem with it, the AT was fantastic in the Tucson & seems to be equally good in the Harrier. The point I'm trying to make is just that the latest versions are not given away even in the TCAT by Hyundai. Don't see them giving the latest DCT in that case. Not that the Harrier AT is inferior in any way because its old.

Re: Is this the Tata Nexon DCT?

So, here we present the XM(S) variant.

This should put an end to the speculations about DCT and AWD .

Haha, weren't we stupid! We sure look so now. If the image is anything to go by - the XM(S) seems to have rear wipe + alloy wheels & the "S" is known to bring a sun-roof on trims on Tata cars recently. This looks like a panic-triggered mix & match decision to me at best.

Although - given the current liking for sun-roofs, this is a good attempt to somehow survive against the steam roller called Sonet that is approaching at warp speed. Since last couple of years & especially now - the top XZ+ trim of the Nexon has started looking more and more insignificant. The basics are all present in the lower trim & Nexon's mod-friendly nature means the car can really be beefed up from mid-variant to be even better than XZ+ on a lot of aspects. The only item not possible after-market was rear wiper - and XM-S now has it! This might be a good time to discontinue XZ+ altogether.

EDIT: It seems Tata has taken down this tweet about XM-S now. This is just so

Let's hope that Tata Motors marketing has been proactive for the first time.
Looking at the impending dent in sales figure, because of Sonet, they've already came out with some probable solution to mitigate the damage.

IMO, XM(S) could be
XM +
1. Sunroof
2. Alloys
3. Rear wiper and defogger
4. Auto AC

With hike in price of around 1.25 lakhs.
It would take ex-showroom price of XM(S) P at around 9.25 lakhs.
This will ensure that people will get MOST wanted features of today's day and age at lower price point.
Touchscreen etc can be added letter, thanks to China.

Re: Is this the Tata Nexon DCT?

Ah! So that was the ad. Lots of 'Sun' and the car on the 'roof' of the world. And the antenna signalling a lower variant. So much for the DCT and AWD predictions. Still haven't learnt the Occam's razor lessons well.

DCT okay.

But the AWD speculation was like, how did anyone get into that conclusion?

The hastily put together teaser should have been a sign for us

But welcome the inclusion of rear wash/wipe in the mid variant of Nexon.
Hate the Hyundai led trend of giving rear wash/wipe only on the topmost variant. Guess, other than Harrier no other Tata car has rear wash/wipe in the mid variants. Could be wrong.
