The Toyota Innova Crysta "Leadership" edition

To celebrate its continued dominance in MPV segment, Toyota Innova Crysta will be getting a Leadership Edition this month in India.
Quote:
Toyota Innova Crysta Leadership Edition will be launched with the 2.4-litre BS6 diesel engine. The variant will be top-spec diesel automatic that comes with 6-speed transmission with sequential shift. Max power output is 150 hp and max torque is 360 Nm. In comparison, the manual variant delivers torque of 343 Nm, while power output is the same. Leadership Edition will only be offered with top variant, diesel auto combo.

It is expected that Toyota Innova Crysta Leadership Edition will have limited changes, as compared the standard model. ‘Leadership Edition’ badging could be one of the key enhancements that are likely to be introduced. We could also see some chrome or silver accents on internal and external components such as front grille, alloy wheels, boot lid, steering wheel, and seats.

New colour options that will be offered with Innova Leadership Edition include White Pearl & Black and Wildfire (Red) & Black. This is the first time Toyota Innova Crysta will be offered with dual tone colour options. Until now, it has been offered in mono tone colour options.
Looks like a rub off effect from Maruti.

Seriously is adding chrome or dual tone a symbol of leadership . If they want to give a upgrade or compete with Kia, give a proper head unit at the least.

The touring sport had few differences that still made sense like the black color interiors, minimal chrome etc. (premium charged was too high though). But the leadership edition is stretching it.

I understand it is unlikely to come with any feature additions. In that case, they could have put a little more effort in selecting that name. Leadership edition sounds very lame. Even if it came with some notable feature additions, I would avoid that just because of that name. Names like autobiography and leadership will look cool on a Range rover or Lexus, not in a Toyota.

The actual model that is launched is very different. For 62K more you get all black treatment inside, contrast roof and alloys, 360 degree camera, auto folding mirrors and yes the badges are included as well. The limited edition is based on VX and not ZX.

Thanks for the information and link, PrideRed.
Earlier, I was under the assumption that the leadership edition will be based on ZX variant.

In addition to the black treatment, 360 degree camera, auto folding mirrors, It would have been a nice touch if they had provided a better touch screen system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play.
And instead of just blackened alloys, a different alloy design would have been a good move.

May be our expectations are too much.

The pictures actually show 17 inch variant unlike the 16 inch which comes with VX. You also get bumper/side skirtings. All these at 62K is good value to me if you are considering VX.

My father has a Crysta VX at home. So was aware that it comes with 16inch alloys. But, didn't notice that this new edition comes with 17inch alloys. Thanks for highlighting.

Yes, as you said black theme cabin, 360° camera, auto-folding ORVMS, side skirtings, 17 nch alloys for 62k more, seems good value. If someone is in market looking for a VX, can surely consider this variant as well.

I do follow the thread on your 2 Crystas. A good log and reference point for other owners.Thank you.

So if the leadership edition is based on VX, it won't be an automatic as mentioned in the opening post. The torque figures will not be higher then. Toyota still has not considered giving a bench middle row seat in the ZX.

They are trying to make a sporty minivan. Such an oxymoron. They should have gone with more luxury features for the "Sheth" in back seat.

One thing that beats me is even today, many people consider this an SUV!

Only thing missing from this edition is good touch screen with Apple car play & Android Auto. The current head unit looks like a aftermarket job. Grow up Toyota, you are charging 2+ million bucks for this MPV and customer deserves at least basic features like Apple car play & Android Auto.

First they should provide 7 airbags and ESP in all variants. Thats a sign of Leadership. Not some silly makeup job.

Well they tried that in one of their products and it bombed. On the other hand there are manufacturers who have successfully launched 'sportz' and 'Blu' editions with just cosmetic changes like different colored alloys or some chrome here and there. Its natural that for them to give what a customer will most likely be willing to buy and in our country, its definitely not more airbags because 'it will cost more to replace in case of accident' nor it is ESP because 'what is it? I am a good driver and the idol hanging here will protect me better'

re: The Toyota Innova Crysta "Leadership" edition

I am trying to wrap my head around why its called Leadership Edition?

Did they send the Innova to a Leadership course and now that it is certified to a be a Leader they have named it so?

Maybe they will tell customers that this is not taxi variant as it has leadership qualities.

Leadership means that one sticks to the strength of their convictions as well. There are ways of attracting customers. In case of the Innova, they anyways dont need to do too much effort. They can add warranties, things like Android Auto/ Carplay , but bake in the cost of safety systems. I think the Yaris bombed because it was timed too late. That was the time when the compact SUV segment was gathering steam. Apart from.that, within the sedan segment itself it had somewhat unattractive looks, an unexciting powerplant and sheer lack of space .Look at the way the driver armrest protrudes into the rear legspace. It looks more like a sub4 sedan cabin than a regular C segment car like the City or Ciaz.

re: The Toyota Innova Crysta "Leadership" edition

If they launched it with a 2.8, it'd make sense as the car would be the leader of the pack
