Re: January 2020 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Exactly what I had told in October. If manufacturers keep on raising price twice a year, the sales are bound to be impacted. Apr'19 saw a price rise across manufacturers, and the sales went southwards as people did not see value with the increased pricing. Come October, discounts kick in and the sales have stayed well above the 200k mark.

Kia selling 4.5k in Dec and 15k in Jan is a simple case of stock piling to take benefits of increased pricing in Jan.

In my opinion, bump in Yaris sales is due to production of BSVI Yaris in December to stock the dealers. I am doubtful if these number can be sustained in coming months.

Almost all dealers ran out of BS IV Yaris stock by December. My friend who was interested in Yaris in November was asked to wait till Jan for new stock.

Whatever happened to Maruti Ignis? Zero despatches. Has the quirky design finally been completely rejected by the market?

I am assuming, Maruti is preparing to launch the facelift and hence no dispatches in Dec. Related thread - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...es-leaked.html (Maruti Ignis facelift images leaked)

One (1) unit sold and the sold unit recalled due to issues?

The degrowth in Kerala is a spectacular 20%.
While it’s not so much in several states including MH and there’s even growth in states like UP and most of the north east.
Any speculations on what the reason could be?

AFAIK, MG has launched MG ZS EV and there was good amount of initial bookings quoted as well. However, I don't see any dispatch for that particular car.
Any particular reason or I'm missing on something ?

Simple, the Kerala model is predicated on the Middle East / GCC countries doing well.

Dubai has not been doing well for years now - https://www.ft.com/content/4d169d0c-...f-d49067e0f50d

Not expected to revive till 2022
https://www.france24.com/en/20190903...st-to-2022-s-p

Saudi Arabia is officially in recession,
https://www.reuters.com/article/saud...-idUSL5N26L59D

Saudi Arabia is taxing expat families, leading many to return,
https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...w/64489966.cms

Fully 10% of its GDP comes from remittances. If you consider Governmental revenue as a factor, the number becomes even more stark - remittances are 60% of governmental revenues (they don't come into the budget, but am expressing it as a proportion).

100's of thousands are returning from the gulf back to Kerala, often living on their savings (in many cases quite considerable) and no jobs...as Kerala has the highest unemployment rates in India for any major state.

https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/fe...000419916.html

All this means, while the Indian economy is going through a weak phase, reflecting in lower sales, the Kerala economy, linked to the GCC is doing very poorly.

I have noticed some people do not trust our Govt. anymore due to various issues, policy changes, and lack of direction. Few people in my circle who works in GCC/Europe/North America reduced sending money to India and are keeping/investing in the country where they are working.

Despatches will have started in February so we should see the numbers this month. Corona virus crisis in China will also have an impact.

Top 25 cars exported in January 2020. Chevrolet Beat, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Verna are the top 3.
