It’s all about colour combination. Dark colours hide a lot of shortcomings and Alcazar benefitted from that while Carens is at the mercy of bright interiors, highlighting the seat height.

To access the third row in the Kia Carens, press an electrically actuated button for the middle row captain seats to tumble forward.

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

The third row space seems very decent with Hormazd in it!! Especially the under thigh support - impressive! Though the width suggests it would best opted as a 6 seater with captain seats!
All in all, hope this steals some real numbers from Crysta!!

I don’t personally like these low seats. I just saw an Alcazar in my apartment as well and the captain seats are quite low too, meaning you have to always keep adjusting the headrests. Unlike front seat headrests these rear headrests protrude a bit, so I’m not sure if they are actually comfortable. So in pursuit of highlighting more space Hyundai and Kia have taken this route of low seats.

I don't mean any offense but the 3rd row space is nowhere decent. I don't know how the 2nd row was positioned but Mr. Sorabjee is not a particularly tall individual. I have more knee-room and leg-room in the XL6's 3rd row with the 2nd row (and 1st row) set such that a person of my height (183cm) has ample legroom in the 1st two rows. The Crysta is even more spacious.

For a car which is substantially longer than the XL6 (100mm), the seat setting for the 2nd row (too low) and space utilization across the three rows is very disappointing. I hope that I am proven wrong by other pictures.

This looks like a lot of boot space, especially among the current lot of 6/7/8 seaters. IMO, the last row should be the last resort and should be used for short intra city trips only.

Talking of the 3rd row space and being a 6fter, I have never ever been comfortable in the last row of these MPVs. Lack of leg space, lack of back support, inadequate neck rest, all add up to a poor experience and I have to adjust/manage. Been in the old Innova, Crysta (including the captain seats version), Xylo, Xuv500, Ertiga and even the old Pajero SFX. The degree of my adjustment varies from car to car but I wouldn't want to be there unless one forces me to.

Keeping the space aside, will I prefer the last row? NO.
Hanging just behind the rear suspension and bouncing through good/bad roads is nauseating. I will treat it as a punishment

PS: I have done couple of 1000+ kms and one 2000+ kms trips in Innova and Crysta. I had to spend good part of the trip in the last row on those trips!

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

came across this video showing the leg space, headroom with 2 average height individuals seated in the 3rd row, which also reclines.

would like to watch a more detailed video and experience of the 3rd row passengers after a decently long drive

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

Wow that is a lot of boot space with the third row up (comparing with my safari 2021 anyway lol) The exterior design just doesn't work though it's too bland and boring for my taste

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

Another winner, that's a hatrick

Don't know price yet but can say that Kia had understood the pulse with the Seltos then the Sonet and now they've understood the requirements quite well and with those looks and interiors it will hammer at a lot of MUV/SUV/5+ seaters alike.

Although not a fan of Kia but they do get my respect in taking the game forward, wish they do the same in safety and dealer oversight too.
Wish them well

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

While the third row in these pictures looks reasonably spacious, it seems the second row has been compromised in this case. The second row seats seem to be set very low (as can be seen in the pics) and the leg room and under thigh support seems quite lacking. Still will be best to wait for the TBHP reviews before concluding on this.
Good thing though is that Kia is offering it with six airbags - which can give some reprieve to buyers, given the bad performance of the Seltos in the crash tests.
In fact I have personally witnessed a collision of the Seltos from rear with an Innova from front and the Seltos literally smashed in by 1.5 feet in the rear end while the Innova got bashed in barely by 3 inches. Kia really need to significantly increase their body strength too to give some comfort to buyers.
But given all the gimmicks and creature comforts they are able to add and still price their cars well, the Carens also will sell decently, in spite of its really oddball looks (to me). However a small set of people may even like the looks and it will grow on people eventually like the Hyundai Creta is growing.

Thanks a lot. Good catch
Now why was I thinking that its a new car, its just what Seltos did with the Creta the Carens does it with the Alcazar

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

I must say the interior room looks impressive for a compact minivan. They have also managed to make this look, to a large extent, like an SUV than MPV. The dash looks minimalistic although I wish they did not have acres of Piano Black Plastic. 6 airbags right from the base variant is a good move, at least to counter the shadow of the Seltos crash test ratings. Only way to dispel some of the worries from that front is to get the Carens crash tested as soon as possible. If Kia has taken measures such as use more high strength and ultra-high-strength steel than in Seltos, this can improve the ratings to some extent. Now, a lot comes down to pricing. The Alcazar was exorbitantly priced, since Hyundai offered only higher end variants, but Kia has a chance to undercut the XUV700, especially in the lower variants. This may allow Kia to tap into more price segments and come in with a volume seller instead of a niche vehicle.
