Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

The air filter in the right rear passenger seat could be a serious hazard in case of a crash and if the passenger is not wearing a seat belt.

Well both the rear passenger sear backs are a hazard ( is the same in Alcazar too i guess).

Is Kia discarding the utility of the rear bumper in the Kia Carens?

Carens follows the Hyundai-KIA way of over-doing things in terms of design. Just too many touches here and there, like Seltos, Sonet, Creta and i20. No grace in its design, IMO.

All the above cars you mentioned (apart from Carens) are not exactly MPVs. They are pitched as SUVs and for a reason. Either the 3rd row is extremely poor or there is non-existent boot space with the 3rd row up whereas the Crysta offers a 3rd row which can actually be used by adults for 2-3 hour trips and a boot that can stow some luggage.
The Carens seems to fall in a similar category despite being called an MPV.

What does Toyota do to counter it? Launch a limited edition Innova Crysta with some additional feature gimmicks.
Their sales have been barely affected. Why fix something that ain't broken.

Isn't it true for all the recent models including Marazzo, Xuv700, Ertiga, XL6, Harrier or Safari?

I'm really digging the cockpit, and the controls mounted on that rear seat. That's an innovation. Black is my preferred colour. This could be a made for India product as I haven't seen this outside, anywhere

Isn't the middle row placed really low ? The headrests are barely reaching the window line. This is combination with the higher placed front seats might make the 2nd row quite claustrophobic.

Would like to see this with a passenger seated to be sure, but it sure looks like that from this photo.

Agreed. And am not contesting the categories.

My simple point is, people now have a little more variety when it comes to choosing a 7 seater and all in the same price bracket that Crysta sits in. Toyota needs to up the ante before its too late. And by that I don't mean copy paste a Suzuki. Look what happened to Yaris. Such a promising car died premature because of foolish pricing .

I just hope the Toyota India knows what they are doing. We don't want another Ford story is all I say.

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

Check this video - provides a glimpse of the interiors - and a first view of the Carens' boot space and 3rd row.

Boot space seems pretty good by competition standards - upwards of 200 lts (unless the camera is playing tricks) - perhaps second only to the Innova.

3rd row leg room seems Alcazar-like (not generous) but seat depth and upward sloping angle of the 3rd row could make it interesting to watch, when the official reviews get released.

The 2nd row space seems adequate - not generous like the Hector or the Safari. In the video, it seems the driver seat has been set maximum back, thereby providing minimal leg room in 2nd row. Looks tight with that setting. The lack of sliding 2nd row (esp with the 6-seat variant shown here) is a bummer

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

It is interesting that no one observed the same in Alcazar whereas this issue is being reported in the case of Carens from the beginning. For reference, adding some links from the Alcazar review where the middle row appears below the window line.

Re: Kia Carens midsize MPV unveiled

Hi. Quick question. Since this is based on Kia Seltos and have similar platform as Hyundai Alcazar, wouldn't it be possible for a change to the larger alloy wheels available on them? Alongwith appropriate tyres as well? Will the wheel wells be able to accommodate the same? Pictures show limited gap. If the mechanicals match, then a larger wheel would definitely make the car look proportional. Any thoughts?
Sadly the options for someone looking for a capable 6-7 seater that's doesn't cost a bomb, are very limited. Every single new offering has some or the other quirkiness to it. Sedans are far better off!
