re: Mahindra unveils 130 BHP XUV300 TurboSport. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 10.35 lakh

Unless you need a compact car, 200PS/380NM in xuv700 mid varient makes lot more sense. Also if you need a smooth AT, again xuv700 TC will be a better choice.

1. Short gear throw to make it more fun

2. Reduce clutch travel

3. Aluminium pedals

4. Reduce ground clearance and make suspension bit stiff

5. Sporty exhaust

Why reduce ground clearance? At 180 mm it is amongst the lowest or maybe the lowest of all the so-called compact SUVs. Driving dynamics may improve though, but Indian roads can still throw nasty surprises you know if ground clearance is further reduced (although stiffer suspension in general may compensate for the lower ground clearance at the cost of comfort/ride quality). Also we Indians like higher ground clearance for SUVs.

re: Mahindra unveils 130 BHP XUV300 TurboSport. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 10.35 lakh

Mahindra XUV300 with 130hp turbo petrol to launch soon.

While this new engine was expected to be limited to a new ‘Sportz’ variant that Mahindra had showcased at the Auto Expo, we have now learnt that it could be offered on all four existing trims of the XUV300.

Quote:
1.2-litre T-GDI engine will make XUV300 most powerful in its class
Produces 20hp and 30Nm more than existing turbo-petrol engine
Will likely only be offered with manual gearbox initially

That's a killer engine. I just love the current engine, it's super refined, pulls like a train and is butter smooth for a 3 cylinder. Would love to test drive the new engine. Giving it across variants will be a very good deal. Maybe M&M is pinning hope on this engine and silently removing features?

Not sure why manufacturers still do this in 2021!

With the 130hp petrol and a good torque converter automatic, the XUV 3OO presents a good case for itself against even the options from a segment above.

AMT just doesn't cut it - for an otherwise good package.

True, increase the length to 4.2m and provide the same 6-speed Aisin gearbox and XUV300 can easily take on the 4+ metre crossover segment.

I had checked the supposed annoucement in their Q3 statement. It only says XUV300, doesn't clarify if it's the electric or the regular one. News website are simply exaggerating the original announcement from the CEO.

The more powerful Mahindra XUV300 Sportz could finally hit showrooms soon.

Quote:
Mahindra has received the green light from ICAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology), Manesar, an automotive certification agency in India, for the XUV300 Sportz variant.
- 1.2-litre direct injection three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine
- 131hp, 230Nm
- 6-speed MT
- To be offered in 3 sub-variants – W6, W8 and W8(O)

Quote:
Mahindra will also be equipping it with a mild-hybrid start-stop system to reduce CO2 emissions, and thus, helping it meet CAFE targets.

If they want to sell this car, they need to increase the boot space. Otherwise, M&M should just use the metal and just spew out XUV700s and Thars

re: Mahindra unveils 130 BHP XUV300 TurboSport. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 10.35 lakh

I recently drove my friends’ XUV3OO & I must say I’m impressed with the NVH and Power delivery of the car. If I remember it correctly his is W6 variant (mid variant - correct me unless mistaken) - it was the AMT gearbox plus the sunroof. I took sometime to get used to the automatic and it’s jerky nature. But, once you get used to it, trust me the car just drives so smoothly and there’s no apparent engine noise despite being a 3 cylinder. Mahindra has certainly given their best in developing a wonderful Petrol engine series. It’s just the rear looks that is disappointing with the car. Else, it’s a complete package and imagine this getting even powerful with their 130hp tune. It’ll literally fly and will certainly be an enthusiasts delight!

re: Mahindra unveils 130 BHP XUV300 TurboSport. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 10.35 lakh

130+ HP motor is certainly welcome, however, an additional 100+ litres of boot space is what the XUV 3OO badly needs to compete with the leaders of its segment. The baby XUV is a potent crossover no doubt, but a bigger boot will make it an even more compelling package. Also it wouldn't hurt to have a ground clearance increment of about 10mm.

The XUV 3OO needs the following

1. A traditional torque convertor for both the petrol and diesel variants
2. At least 350 liters of boot space
3. Black Sporty interiors and not those white/beige ones!

re: Mahindra unveils 130 BHP XUV300 TurboSport. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 10.35 lakh

While it is a great welcome to have more powerful motors for the xuv300, the current 110bhp + 200Nm engine is already very powerful, and is the one with the maximum torque in the segment. Adding to the fact that it has the most powerful diesel mill.

It would be wonderful for Mahindra to launch a 4.3m monocoque SUV with this new 1.2 TGDI petrol engine, and the current diesel engine(it's still more powerful than Creta 1.5D) or with a more powerful diesel engine. Since they have the engines ready, I would rather they launch the ICE version before the EV version.
