I for one don't understand how these manufacturers come up with this weird ideas of variants and the respective equipment list.
With the TDI & DSG a thing of the past, Vento and Rapid are even with the 1.0 TSI motor.

Vento gets the old touch screen HU

Rapid gets the updated Android 8" touch screen HU as per Autocar's latest article:
VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT-2020skodarapidtsiinfotainment.jpg

What's more, this seems to be one of those crappy HUs as well which does not even have Android Auto or Apple carplay!

Taking centre stage (literally) is Skoda’s 8.0-inch Android-based infotainment system that's squeezed into the centre console as a retrofit. The high-res screen is sharp, easy to read and doesn’t pick up reflections but it’s not very intuitive to use. There’s no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay; users do get phone screen mirroring via a third party 'EasyConnection' app but the experience isn’t particularly seamless. The single USB port, located inconveniently in the glovebox, feels like an afterthought.

Re: VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT

Booked Polo 1.0 TSI Carbon Steel color yesterday!
Expected delivery : July 1st week ( due to Chennai lockdown). Did a quick test drive when SA came to collect my signatures.
Overall impression was good!
1. Engine is surprisingly quiet and pulls without fuss from as low as 1500 rpm in 2nd gear cleanly, but the real fun starts after 2000 rpm!
2. Gear shift throws are short, didn't miss any shifts
3. Clutch is super light
4. Handling and braking is good as expected, no drama here
Some pics for your happiness

+1
I am with you on this!
The Polo, Vento (Rapid) still look great and the GTi inspired bumpers & grille on the VWs look really sporty!

Re: VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT

Upon reading this, I have mixed emotions. That 7 speed DSG gearbox was a fantastic unit. It was quick shifting and adapted to almost all driving styles. Torque converter would be cheaper to produce and maintain and has a reputation of being reliable which was not the case with the DCTs.

Thanks,
Tachyonites.

But it was received with as much, maybe more, suspicion than acceptance, and many here had insufficient confidence in it to make the purchase. I don't know how much slush-box effect there is in modern torque converters generally (haven't driven one for fifteen years) let alone this one in particular. Replies educating me on this are welcome .

I do think that VW have noted the negativity and responded accordingly.

Re: VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT

I believe this will tilt numbers towards MT in VW & Skoda. TSI alone can’t keep up, w/o the DSG. Time will tell us how the market reacts to this - but this is my prediction.

Also, this could be a smart play by VW & Skoda. Will push many Vento customers to consider T-roc.

I believe VW have listened to the people who wouldn't buy the TSI because DSG. I also suspect that that the fears were exaggerated, but VW dealt with the negative impression anyway.

Fair. I am trying to see how many TSI + TC (AT) buyers will be there. TSI MT seems like a hit, but am not sure if TSI + TC on Polo/Vento/Rapid will lure many. Shift will be towards manual therefore in these segments for VW and Skoda.

Probably in the minority here, but I'd rather have that old HU in the Vento. Having physical buttons for common functions is extremely useful, regardless of steering mounted controls.

That HU in the Rapid looks to be all chintz and no substance, IMO.

"...one has to be careful about the extra few feet behind the car..." (He was referring to Vento being longer than Polo). Did not want to watch the entire video!
