2nd-Gen Hyundai Creta @ Auto Expo 2020. Edit: Launched at 9.99 lakhs

Mod Note: Our Hyundai Creta Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Big shoutout to Rehaan for shooting these pictures & his coverage of the Auto Expo. Thanks for sharing, man!

The Hyundai stand was abuzz with activity when it was time to unveil the second generation Creta.

This is the scene after the car was unveiled. Another reason for the huge crowd was the presence of Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, who was there for the unveiling.

The India-spec Creta has a Cascade grille with four horizontal slats. The trapezoidal headlamp pods and the U-shaped LED daytime running lights are similar to those on the Chinese version.

The C-pillar and roof are partially painted in silver to add contrast. The body cladding along the door sills also has a silver insert. Also, note that the car has disc brakes on both axles.

Trapezoidal tail lamps and C-shaped brake lights are identical to the China-spec Creta. However, the Indian version does not get the light bar. It is replaced with a high-mounted stop lamp, which is actually positioned quite low.

A closer look at the headlamp cluster reveals three separate LED lights. The fog lamps are placed on the front bumper.

re: 2nd-Gen Hyundai Creta @ Auto Expo 2020. Edit: Launched at 9.99 lakhs

The dark tint on the windows suggested that Hyundai didn't want us to look at the interior. However, we did manage to capture a few shots.

The interior of the India-spec Creta is unlike the Chinese version. It has a dual-tone dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment head-unit and a 4-spoke steering wheel.

Here's a closer look at the 4-spoke multi-function steering wheel.

The centre console layout is pretty conventional.

Rectangular air-conditioning vents are on the top and the automatic climate control module is placed below the infotainment head-unit. Toggles for the front seat ventilation are placed on either side of the gear lever. Also, note that the car comes with an electronic parking brake.

The physical buttons below the touchscreen unit look sleek.

Both the Seltos and 2020 Creta share the same platform and that is the modified K2 Platform which was used in the Elantra. The 2017 Verna Facelift also uses the same Platform.

Re: 2020 Hyundai Creta spied in India for the first time

I really dig the quirky design and i am sure over the course of the next few months, the design will grow over most. But i would have really liked the Chinese ix25 spec interior. This interior looks more generic and sort of looks disconnected from the exterior design.

What is it with the Hyundai designers in India using a different colour/shade on the C pillar? First the Aura now this.

Re: 2020 Hyundai Creta spied in India for the first time

Never expected that a manufacturer who started the previous decade '10 with the "Fluidic design ideology" will end up designing this at the start of this decade '20 .
This will probably fail within a year (Hector, Harrier & Seltos influx) and I hope they bring in a new design philosophy.
But pray they just don't make it more uglier, like thet did with the facelift of 3rd gen Elantra.
The question remains, Can it be made more uglier ?

The Indian version looks better than the Chinese ix25, but still way short of desirable.

Given the mechanicals remain same as the Seltos - I'd any day pick the latter. Or even the competitors like the Harrier instead.

The Interior if they had replicated the ix25 version would have surely given an edge to the Creta over the Seltos.

Oh do not go by Wikipedia - those are for global models. For the Indian versions Hyundai has used a different platform. The Venue sold globally uses the i20 Platform which is also known as the PB Platform but the Indian Venue uses the Santro Platform (K1 Platform).

Refer this article for more on the existing Creta's platform: URL

1st Generation Creta is based on the i20 Platform/PB Platform. The Creta that has been launched today is based on the modified K2 Platform/Elantra Platform (which is also used on the Seltos) and hence superior to the 1st Gen in that aspect.

No offense to people liking the new design but I can't fathom why someone would destroy a classy design like the previous generation Creta? The front and rear don't gel well together. Given a choice between this and Seltos, my vote is definitely for the Seltos.

India spec Creta and ix25 (China) have different platforms? I seriously doubt that. Cartoq article is very vague and doesn't look credible. There is something we are all missing. I think it is the same platform with slight modifications is being used in many cars (Verna, Elantra, Creta, Seltos).

Automobile engineers in the forum please throw some light. There are many questions on the platform of the 1st gen and 2nd gen Creta.

re: 2nd-Gen Hyundai Creta @ Auto Expo 2020. Edit: Launched at 9.99 lakhs

I like the new design of the Creta. As expected from Hyundai, fit and finish seems to be on par and it looks huge and smashing from the back. A toned down DRL's would make it desirable though. They are too flashy and on face.

The only grouse is that grill, seems to be designed by a road side welder

Wonder what were they smoking while choosing greyish for dashboard panels.

The front has grown on me. I always liked the profile, but the rear just doesn't work. Just can't digest that design.

Browse the Hyundai Verna Official Review (search for Platform) - it clearly mentions that the 2017 Verna was upgraded to the Elantra Platform : URL (Hyundai Verna : Official Review). The earlier Verna was based on the i20/PB Platform. This is not surprising given that the Honda City and Honda Jazz share the same platform as well.

Coming to the older Creta, unfortunately the Team-BHP Official review does not mention the Platform anywhere and there are some conflicting opinions. Here are some links which seem to substantiate the PB/i20 Platform claim:

Link 1 (Preview: Hyundai Creta)

Link 2

Link 3: Hyundai ix25 Will Be Called 'Creta'; Launch Soon - URL

As requested by OP, I would request other experts to weigh in as well on the platform of the older Creta. As for the 2020 newer Creta there is no confusion and is surely based on the Elantra/K2 Platform.
