Re: 2nd-Gen Hyundai Creta @ Auto Expo 2020. Edit: Launched at 9.99 lakhs

2nd-gen Hyundai Creta bookings hit the 20,000 mark

According to a media report, Hyundai has received almost 20,000 bookings for the second generation Creta.

2nd-Gen Hyundai Creta @ Auto Expo 2020. Edit: Launched at 9.99 lakhs-cretaindia.jpg

The second generation Creta was launched in March, this year. The carmaker had received 14,000 pre-bookings for the car even before it was launched.

Hyundai claims that it had received close to 18,000 bookings when the countrywide lockdown to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic was announced. Out of the total number of bookings received during the lockdown, 75% of them have been for the Creta. Deliveries are expected to begin after the lockdown is lifted.

The second generation Creta is available in 5 trim levels - E, EX, S, SX and SX (O). The SUV is offered with three engine options. The first option is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 113 BHP @ 6,300 rpm and 144 Nm @ 4,500 rpm. It is paired with either a 6-speed manual or CVT gearbox.

The second engine option is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol unit that produces 138 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 242 Nm @ 1,500-3,200 rpm. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The third engine option is a 1.5-litre diesel that puts out 113 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,500-2,750 rpm. This is engine is available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

I think you wanted to say, Creta's rear seat under thigh support felt better than the Seltos.
Even with slightly quirky design as compared to previous gen Creta (personal view, I don't know how many will like it but for me previous design was better than current), Creta face lift 2020 will taste the success again (competent rival like Seltos with sales figures not far behind), that much is the popularity and fan following of Creta.

Nitpick: Autocar needs better proofreaders. Look at the scale on that picture.

Yes I meant Creta rear seat felt better than Seltos. Kia doesn't offer Hyundai's 5 year/50k kms standard warranty option weirdly which I think is a boon for people who don't drive more than 10k annually.

Quirky styling aside the Hyundai offers a better proposition on both ends of the variants as of now.

2020 Hyundai Creta garners considerable bookings but gets poor response to its Turbo Petrol Model.

Quote:
the Turbo variants of the car has contributed only 5.4 per cent of the total figure.
Quote:
20,000 bookings for the car, out of which, 11,000 bookings are for the diesel variant.
Quote:
the remaining 9,000 are for the petrol variants, but it should be noted that Hyundai offers two petrol engine options with the latest Creta. There is a 1.5L naturally-aspirated motor and a 1.4L turbo-petrol engine on offer. While a total of 7,920 unit of Creta are booked with the former configuration, the latter could only attract 1,080 orders.

Generally, turbo-petrols are preferred by young buyers. Can we conclude young are preferring Seltos turbo over Creta turbo? I am not a youth but I would any day prefer Seltos over new Creta. Try as hard as I did, I couldn't bring myself to look past its looks.

Saw a darkish blue on yesterday evening during dusk. Looked far better than what I had feared.

Re: 2nd-Gen Hyundai Creta @ Auto Expo 2020. Edit: Launched at 9.99 lakhs

Smart strategy adopted by Hyundai in these pandemic affected times. Instead of just promoting the product only, they have now come up with some smart/ bit lucrative finance options to build up the sales numbers, as availability of finance and stability in future would affect a lot of car buying decisions right now and they would not let a new product (read Creta) have low sales number due to this.

Re: 2nd-Gen Hyundai Creta @ Auto Expo 2020. Edit: Launched at 9.99 lakhs

I've always had an issue with Hyundai's offerings on the higher Automatic variants ; and when I heard the Venue DCT didn't come with a rear-wiper, I just didn't get it.

With this new Creta, I was thrilled to hear that some of the SX(O) variants were for just Automatics! And reading about the Turbo DCT variants had me intrigued even more!
Imagine my disappointment to see Hyundai restricting the Turbo to lesser color-variants and that "Gun-metal" alloy. Sigh!
Why Hyundai, Why?!

That said, I've always maintained that the important things to look for in a car are the Engine (which translates into your Driving experience), the Interiors (which is what YOU will see 99.5% of the time) and then the Exterior, which would have been the "image" and what you would see for the remaining 0.5% of the time (although the current Covid-19 episode has now thrown my stats off :P )

Having sold my 4 yr old Polo 1.6 Petrol roughly 5 years ago, I figured this is a good time as any to buy a car and while I've been oscillating between the Seltos and the Creta DCTs, I feel like the trade-off for a Creta is justified.

But then, I haven't sat in the new car yet, so maybe I'll feel differently next week when this damned lockdown is hopefully lifted in Bangalore!

Assuming I do go ahead with the decision to buy the new Creta, what I would like your help with is -

1. What's the recommendation on enabling the illuminated switches on the inside?
I saw a video that showed these weren't functional on the Creta and I always did like this feature of the Hyundai models

2. Recommendation on Tyres
I saw somewhere that the DCT Petrol comes with JK Tyres versus the Nexen ones ; what would be better in the 17" category and estimated price?!
If you have a contact, would highly appreciate it!

Not sure which number to believe. In earlier news it was reported 55% booking for Diesel and 12% for Turbo, though overall booking and Diesel variant percentage remains same now. Link below to the news on 02-May

I have seen 2 models of DCT at different showrooms and both had JK Tyres while the other variants had Nexen tyres.

Also, does anybody has any clue on the sales break-up of the Seltos line between the NA petrol, diesel and turbo petrol? We can then compare how the Seltos turbo petrol fared in the initial days.

Are you referring to the power window switches?

Options in 215/60 R17 are Michelin Primacy 4ST tyres, Yokohama BlueEarth AE50, Continental Conti Cross Contact LX2 and Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport. I'd go for Michelin P4ST over these.

My apologies, I should have been more specific.
I could have sworn I saw more buttons not being illuminated but on re-checking today, yes - it appears to be just the power-window switches that do not illuminate ; is there something one can do to enable that?

Much appreciated @a4anurag !
Hopefully, I get a good deal when exchanging the tyres!

I have a 2018 SX Creta and the power window switches are not back lit except the drivers window switch. Honestly, this isnt a big deal and you will get used to it very quickly since the ergonomics are bang on in most Hyundais so you dont generally have to fiddle around a lot. Better than getting some third party electronics installed I would say.
