Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

The fact that this thread itself hasn't gone to page 2 yet says a lot! The rear and the side profile are nice and clean. The front looks disproportionate with the grill 2 sizes bigger than it should have been. But knowing MG, it will be loaded. But if they think they are creating a new segment with this, they are probably mistaken. It mostly will be ignored since neither is it a sedan not an SUV leaving the owner doing lots of explaining what this car actually is. And at the risk of repeating it again in this thread, sedans are not the flavour of the season so why bother. This is where Kia is playing smart!

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

I wouldn't want to be seen driving this.
I love sedans and would always prefer one over a SUV simply because of the elegance, the seating position, the dynamics and the overall feel it offers. In terms of design, this vehicle simply doesn't cuts it for me. It feels like, the car is trying to do a lot more than it's meant to and feels like a mixture of too many attributes thrown in one. The proportions are just too weird and I cannot label this as a sedan, the roofline seems extremely unconventional and unattractive which I feel is one of the most important bits in a sedan and the way it tapers down to the rear too isn't fluid. It's like the vehicle is on a diet. The front again, feels too heavy and the grille just doesn't go with the vehicle. The rear lamps are something I liked but that's about it. The lines in no way feels crisp and attractive, the way Autocar has tried to portray in the article.

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

Like the Mahindra KUV, this car looks like the front and the back side is designed by two different companies. MG certainly really needs a differentiating factor to sell this car. Is there a Hybrid or EV in the pipeline?

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

MG will never do well in India unless they bring EXACTLY what Indians want. MG Hector is plagued with issues and nothing is faster than Indian word-of-mouth, especially a negative one. Such niche experimental products don't work even if they come from established brands. What do the Chinese bosses expect from weird products like these?

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

Seems i am in the minority here when i feel it is a striking design. MG is clearly looking at whitespaces in India and creating a porfolio suited to that. These Chinese players do not have long cycles when it comes to products. They will launch fast and stop if the product doesnt perform.

If they price it well, say less than 14-15 lakhs, this might be the sedan that brings the GT/coupe inspired design to a larger audience, and re-invigorate the segment.

I wonder how this thread is right at the top of the "Hot Threads" section of team-bhp. 2 pages in the thread, not much activity and still manages to stay on top

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

Thread is just 2 days old, but has over 13000 views already. That could be the reason of becoming a "hot thread". MG has already become favourite brand in India and many people consider it a 'real' British brand. Great marketing by the company.

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

So, what will we call that car? Sedan? Fastback? Coupe? SUV?
Chinese has already taken over the mobile phone industry in India with their vivo and oppo.
Now cars too? Sad.
This car has rear lights like BMW i8.
Steering wheel like Peugot.
Infotainment display like Merc S class.
Audi A7 like rear three quarters.
Ground clearance like a SUV.
Oh sorry. It is a SUV...? No no Sedan. My bad.

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

Conventional wisdom says SUVs are popular in India but go any Indian metro street and there's more passenger sedans and hatchbacks than SUVs!. Same as in any other metro worldwide. I sincerely hope MG will listen to car enthusiasts and bring the MG6 here and avoid listening to the bean counters. They have destroyed many auto companies in India already. How many more CAs and MBAs do we need to destroy our business and industry?.

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

This is the MG RC 6 sedan sold by the MG's parent company SAIC in China. While MG hasn't given us a timeline for it but says it will weigh it's options based on market demand. If launched it will rival the likes of Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra.

Makes me wonder why exactly is it sad from a prospective customer's point of view? It will only lead to more affordable cars for the masses with much desired bling for the segments they serve. If it wasn't for Vivo & Oppo, most of our rural folks wouldn't even be able afford a smartphone. I agree their quality is not as desirable but they cost a fraction of your iPhones and Notes.

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

I think it's unfair to deride MG for considering a sedan for the Indian sedan market. The car looks nice enough in photos anyway. Being MG ,pricing also should be competitive.

Along with the SUV crowd, there is certainly a whole bunch of Indian customers waiting for a reasonably priced and well put together sedan package and this could be one.

It's also that we all are tired of buying the Superb/Passat at almost 32 L and grumble over the maintenance costs ( and selling at @ 75% capital loss after 4-5 years) . With the arrival of Kia/ other new Chinese manufacturers, the whole industry is ripe for re- pricing the entire spectrum of vehicles.

Just my 2 paisa.

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

The sedan segment has stagnated largely because of a lack of value priced products. The last sedan to witness stellar success was the original Honda Civic. Thereafter, most brands got greedy with the pricing and lazy with their localisation. Even the very competent Hyundai Elantra turns up sad numbers month after month.

The message is simple - SUV / MPV love notwithstanding. Price it well and it shall sell. A generously sized car, adequately loaded with the goodies within striking range of the top-end City would readily repeat the original Civic's success. Also, note the number of old Accords still painstakingly maintained by their original owners.

Reports of the sedan's demise are highly exaggerated. She merely bides her time for the bold product planner, unfettered by the over-zealous bean counter!

Re: MG Motor's premium sedan for India

MG is preparing a midlife facelift for the second-generation MG6 small sedan, the first details of which have now been made public ahead of its official debut later this year.

Quote:
Under the bonnet, the Mazda3 sedan rival’s optional 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine is in line for a power boost, rising from 124kW to 133kW.

The 2021 MG 5. Could this be the first MG sedan for India?
