Re: Scoop! Volkswagen Passat BS6 spied, coming back to the market

With the Octavia delayed to next year, I was thinking why not offer cars like the Passat and Superb with 1.5 TSI.

This might seem blasphemous for enthusiasts but my thinking is this. Almost all Superbs' and Passats' are chauffeur driven. It is very rare to see these being self driven. Anyone self driving these days is choosing the SUV version like Allspace and Kodiaq.

Hence, why not offer one mid variant version of these with a 1.5L TSI engine and 7 speed DSG. 150PS power is more than sufficient for a chauffeur driven sedan with same 250Nm torque as 1.8L TSI earlier.

Let the top end still offer 2.0L TSI for those who want it. Since the Jetta is gone anyways, a mid variant Passat with 1.5L TSI, better efficiency will be a huge hit for the chauffeur driven executives vs a 2.0L TSI that will offer low single digit FE figures in city. Pointless to have a 190PS motor for a driver to negotiate metro city traffic.

They can even split the lineup with VW offering the 1.5L TSI and Skoda offering the 2.0L. A Passat for 30~32 lakhs on road with a smaller engine will be mouth watering proposition. There's nothing between the Elantra/Civic and the Superb right now, which is a gap of 12 lakhs.

Well said. In fact in the EU/UK, the 147 bhp 1.5TSI is a big hit and ranks after the hugely successful 148 bhp 2.0TDI.
Here's a review of the Superb with the 1.5:
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review...2019-uk-review

Extract:
Quote:
Although it lacks the effortless low-down shove from near-idle of the diesels, the 1.5 TSI is perfectly peppy enough for most needs once above 1500rpm or so and it rarely feels strained or overburdened. Keeping it on the boil isn't a hardship thanks to a tight gearshift and predictable clutch action, either (no kangarooing here), but there's an argument that suggests the more relaxed approach of the diesels suits the car better.

Take it easy, though, and you’re rewarded with mechanical refinement that no oil-burner can match and, thanks in part to the cylinder deactivation tech that brings a slight refinement shortfall when activated - excellent fuel economy.
In effect, very few folks buy the 'standard' 190 bhp 2.0 TSI, and I could not locate even one end-to-end detailed review of the same across any vehicle, be it the Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace, Kodiaq, Superb, Octavia, Karoq or Passat etc. In fact, Autocar India's Allspace review may have been the first one I have come across.

The enthusiasts go the whole hog and buy the Octavia RS245 or Superb Sportline 272 or the Passat Bi-turbo 272/280 GT variant. There are a lot of reviews of this engine of course.

This is exactly what I was seeing. Very few reviews of 2.0L TSI engined sedans.

Also with COVID-19, the slump in the automobile segment will hit premium cars like Superb / Passat a lot more.

Medium sized business owners who were the primary target customers of the Superb / Passat might not be open to spend on a 36-38L sedan with a fuel efficiency of 6-8kmpl in town.

With the 1.5L TSI and losing some features they can price it closer to 30L and buyers maybe more willing.

After COVID-19 manufacturers will have to look at such options to bring in sales.

Re: Scoop! Volkswagen Passat BS6 spied, coming back to the market

Volkswagen Passat To Get Petrol Power, spied testing in India:

The Passat TSI’s 2.0-litre petrol engine will develop 190PS and 320Nm and could be offered exclusively with a 7-speed DSG like the facelifted Superb.

Diesel likely to make a come back later.

Quote:
there’s a very high likelihood that we'll continue with diesel
Quote:
it could feature a fully digital instrument console and an updated infotainment system with connected car technology. All these features were recently added to its facelifted Skoda counterpart, the 2020 Superb.

The one they are testing has a 2.0L TSI but these units came before Covid times so strategy or configuration may change to adapt the market situation.

Re: Scoop! Volkswagen Passat BS6 spied, coming back to the market

So I'm guessing this the US/China spec Passat(not the LWB version but close enough). I read reports that VW intends to adopt a single Passat model strat from 2022 instead of the 2 models they have right now. So I'm guessing after this we will be getting this and the US/ China versions will be aligned with the European versions.

Re: Scoop! Volkswagen Passat BS6 spied, coming back to the market

Volkswagen Passat 2022 facelift unveiled in China:

Quote:
In terms of appearance, the new car uses a large-size front air intake grille, and is equipped with a rectangular lattice design. The headlights on both sides are integrated with the front grille to form an integrated design. The front surrounds the heat dissipation on both sides. .
Quote:
the new Passat 2022 still has two models: a petrol version and a plug-in hybrid version. The new car has some changes in appearance and internal finish. In particular, the fuel version also has a "double sided", with the Star Grill, i.e. the grill with a central led illuminated element. According to Chinese media reports, the new Passat is expected to be officially launched in September.

On the inside, in general, the changes of the new Passat are not so obvious, the layout and shape of the center console are still the original style, but in some details, some new tweaks can still be seen. For example, the steering wheel has two changes: one is that the shape of the steering wheel and the car logo embedded in the steering wheel have adopted a new design; the other is that the capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel replace the traditional buttons,

the new Passat made an incredible decision this time, i.e. it is equipped with 9 airbags

Except for an increase in length of 15 mm, other aspects remain unchanged.

Re: Scoop! Volkswagen Passat BS6 spied, coming back to the market

Was at Manali last week and found this VW car on test, probably the new Vento. These were LHD cars, along with these I also saw few CUVs which were also LHD but I could click them.

Re: Scoop! Volkswagen Passat BS6 spied, coming back to the market

Really Handsome. But will they launch it in India is the question? and yes we need a diesel variant and price it around the Superb.

OT- Did Volkswagen buy a LED manufacturing company? Its everywhere in this car.
