The facelifted Land Rover Discovery Sport which was introduced in May 2019 is now ready to set foot in India. IAB's sources say that it will be launched here in January 2020.

To get ready for the launch of the new Discovery Sport, JLR has already concluded the training of the sales staff. It has started assembly of the new model from knocked-down kits. Meanwhile, the dealerships are in the process of clearing up the unsold inventory of the old model, and so, expect hefty discounts on the old Discovery Sport in the days to come.

The facelifted Land Rover Discovery Sport has also been announced in a plug-in hybrid variant, but that's unlikely for India right now. The Indian-spec model is expected to have the familiar 2.0 litre Si4 petrol engine (177 kW/240 PS) and 2.0 litre TD4 diesel engine (110 kW/150 PS), both with a 9-speed AT. The new Land Rover Discovery Sport will rival the likes of BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 in our market.
New Land Rover Discovery Sport - Mechanical Configurations
  • D150 FWD MT - 2.0L diesel engine (150 PS/380 Nm), 6-speed MT, FWD
  • D150 AWD AT MHEV - 2.0L diesel engine (150 PS/380 Nm) 48-volt mild-hybrid system, 8-speed AT, AWD
  • D180 AWD AT MHEV - 2.0L diesel engine (180 PS/430 Nm), 48-volt mild-hybrid system, 8-speed AT, AWD
  • D240 AWD AT MHEV - 2.0L diesel engine (240 PS/500 Nm), 48-volt mild-hybrid system, 8-speed AT, AWD
  • P200 AWD AT MHEV - 2.0L petrol engine (200 PS/320 Nm), 48-volt mild-hybrid system, 8-speed AT, AWD
  • P250 AWD AT MHEV - 2.0L petrol engine (249 PS/320 Nm), 48-volt mild-hybrid system, 8-speed AT, AWD

Ok so this is where the Nexon facelift headlamp design was inspired from.

But the Nexon facelift was launched first. So this was inspired by Nexon facelift . All this deriving inspiration by Tata may just spoil the desirability factor associated with the JLR brand though.

I like the original Disco Sport design better. This new version looks like a generic Japanese crossover.

Land Rover introduces plug-in hybrid technology for the Evoque and Discovery Sport.

Source : Evo India

https://www.evoindia.com/news/land-r...iscovery-sport.

Quote:
Land Rover has just showcased the plug-in hybrid variants for the Discovery Sport as well as the Range Rover Evoque, both of which are slated to go on sale in the European markets. This hybrid system offers short-range electric-only mode and has a petrol motor to extend the range of the car.The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models will be named P300e in their line ups.Powering both the P300e is an all-new turbocharged 1.5-litre Ingenium petrol engine with a output of 200bhp. An additional 108bhp electric motor is mounted on the rear axle.

The motor is linked to a battery pack and the combined output of this system is approximately 300bhp and 540Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The electric-only mode for the Range Rover Evoque gets up to 66km whereas on the Discovery Sport it is just 61km due to its larger size. Performance wise, both these cars are no slouches, delivering 0-100 figures of 6.1 seconds for the Evoque and 6.2 seconds for the*Discovery Sport. The cars can hit a top speed of 135kmph in electric mode only. Once the cars hit higher speeds, the electric motor stops to make the cars front-wheel-drive only. Land Rover has added three driving modes the first default driving mode be the HYBRID mode uses both the petrol and electric power units to deliver an optimised performance to the driver , second there is a Electric Vehicle mode that allows the SUV to run purely on electric power ideal for city use and lastly Land Rover has added a SAVE mode that uses the combustion engine as the main power source to help keep the batteries at an optimum charge level.

Now coming to the batteries of these SUVs, they can be charged from a regular socket which takes up to six hours to top up. There's also the provision for a 7kW AC wall socket, which can take the battery from 0 to 80 per cent charge in just 1 hour 24 minutes. Lastly, through DC fast charging, 0 to 80 per cent can be achieved in just 30 minutes. All of this energy is stored in a Samsung-sourced 15kWh battery pack

There's been no official word from Land Rover about when these cars will be offered in India, but as per the JLR product pipeline, there is an electric car headed our way in the form of the Jaguar I-Pace, scheduled to come out this year. There aren't too many plug in hybrid cars in India but these two SUV's will be a great addition to the current Land Rover portfolio, when it comes to providing cleaner emissions and lower running costs.
Mods : I've posted the same news in the Evoque thread too. Hope it doesn't create a duplication of posts.

Re: Land Rover Discovery Sport Facelift to be launched in India soon

Need help

Background: I currently use Mitsubishi Outlander, it around 11 years old, great product however age is showing up, was exploring possible alternatives, one of the prime options in my mind is a pre-owned Discovery Sport,

now the ask, need advice on the below two points

- Reliability - JLR does scare me in my mind, but not sure if it is just my perception
- I am keen to get feedback specific to Discovery Sport
- Any specific call outs for this model - known issues, etc

- Tips on assessing a pre owned Discovery sport - the one I am considering is a 4+ years old and has run around 45k kms

Also, please feel free to share any other points I would need to consider, thank you
